Great article, but I believe you are incorrect in saying “Lawry wasn’t the only casualty. Alan Connolly, Ken Eastwood, Eric Freeman, Laurie Mayne, Brian Taber and ‘Froggy’ Thompson also would never take the field for Australia again.”

From the England series in 70-71, I believe these are the ones that never played another test:
Lawry, McKenzie, Connolly, Duncan, Eastwood, Thompson.

Mayne did not play in that series, and I don’t think Taber or Freeman did either.

Fifty years on: Australia versus the Rest of the World, 1971-72

He didn’t love wearing it. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t value it. I see your point, but surely it’s irrelevant.

Warne auctions baggy green for fire relief

There’s hope for me yet then.

With a massive selection gamble, Michael Cheika rearranges the deck chairs once again

I can almost feel Stephen Larkham smiling.
In the background, but not out of the system, watching Cheika and Grey squeeze the life out of the Wallabies.

With a massive selection gamble, Michael Cheika rearranges the deck chairs once again

Khawaja was effectively opening in each of the tests he played in this series.
Why do you think coming in to bat 10 minutes earlier would make any difference?

The XI Australia must pick at the Oval

‘Aussies deserve to win because of their willingness to make the tough calls at the selection table.’

If that was they case, they would have dropped Warner.

The Ashes: England vs Australia, fourth Test preview, prediction

I like the look of Harris, but he is far too inclined to throw his wicket away.
He will be picked though, and I hope this will be the making of him.

We need to have gutsy batsmen in there an Marnus isn’t one of them.
Wade has all the credentials in that area.

Let’s not look at batsmen because they ‘bowl a bit’. Head and Labuschagne can’t cut it at shield level and they will never be test class bowlers. Similarly, the only variety that Smith offers with the ball is that his length will range from hip-high full tosses to half trackers.

Unlucky seven: Who will miss the Ashes - and what is Australia's best XI?

Well, they say that life evens out.
Wade is left out of the test side on ‘grounds other than cricket ability’.
The same grounds that must have kept getting the Marsh brothers picked.

Are selectors prepared to go with their double standards?

maybe that should have been ‘cooling their heels’ 🙂

Funny game cricket, but Glenn Maxwell ain't laughin'

Interesting to compare the captaincies of Wade and Finch against the same opposition.
In the Semi, the Hurricanes had Handscomb and Maddinson at the crease with Maxwell next in. None of these three like fast bowlers aiming at their bodies. Wade had slow bowlers operating from both ends and left Archer and Meredith warming their heels.
When the Renegades eventually took a wicket in the final, Finch had Tremain back in to the attack to bowl at Hanscomb. This helped continue the rot, not because of good bowling, but good captaincy (in my opinion).

Well mate, I’m not a Souths supporter, but I hope they do well for you this year.
And, spot on about the refs.

Dylan Napa has 'no idea' how videos were leaked

If Napa is fined or suspended, it will show just how much Greenberg plays favourites. I’m still waiting for the NRL or Souths to take some sort of meaningful action against Inglis for his illegal, and potentially deadly, actions.

Ken Eastwood?

The bold selections that didn't pay off XI

Ian Healy has just confirmed my opinion of him as a cricket ‘expert’ commentator.

Don’t get me wrong. Above all, I want to see what’s best for Steve Smith.
But the whole South African saga yells and screams that Smith was never a good choice of leader in the first place.

Steve Smith should return to Test team as captain: Ian Healy

Chill out, Dylan Napa, fresh outrage is coming

He really should stop saying anything publicly. The statement above follows on from “I didn’t know any better” and “My biggest regret is that I’ve given my test spot to someone else”.

He deserves the opportunity to make amends, if his form stacks up, but he keeps making himself look bad.

Bancroft "looks forward" to playing with Warner again; insists no bad blood between duo

They weren’t exactly the greatest of mates when Harris left WA.

Three changes confirmed in new-look Australian squad to play Sri Lanka

I have nothing against Peter Siddle. But how does he get elevated above Tremaine, who was in the last test squad, and has had no opportunity to play any cricket? Hence no chance to push his own case for selection.

It just keeps getting stranger!

Ryan, as far as I’m aware, the question of why Warner needed to tape his hands to that extent has not been answered. If he was up to no good in the previous test(s), surely there is video or photos of it somewhere. I have no respect for him and wouldn’t be surprised what he’s been involved in.

Sorry folks, sandpaper-gate ain’t over just yet

“Head can bowl”
And I’m dating Jennifer Hawkins.

Is there more to Starc that just cleaning up the tailenders?

Exactly.
I’m an Aussie and am predicting a draw in Melbourne and a win to India in Sydney.
I think they have a better all round team than us and I don’t rate our bowling attack as highly as the Australian media do.

The precarious state of the Indian Test team

So, is this then the new blackest day in Australian sport?
Or is it just the second blackest day?
Kate, Jason please enlighten us.

NRL hands down massive punishment to Cronulla and Shane Flanagan

I’m as Australian as they come, but I don’t buy in to ex-players like John Hastings saying that Kholi is ‘out of control’ or others saying he should tone it down.
The Australians have given it to everyone for many decades with, until recently, no recriminations.
What do we expect? A team of Dravid and Bedi-like gentlemen who will sit still take their medicine?
Personally, I loved it when Kholi gave it to Faulkner a couple of summers back.
Is he good for cricket? In my opinion, yes he is.

As far as the catch goes, I subscribe to the theory that the benefit of the doubt should go to the batsman.

Cricket Australia really needed Kohli this summer

You, sir, have a strange definition of what a back cut is.

Also, may I lay some of the batting blame on one G. Hick?
How did he get a guernsey as batting coach when he could barely muster a test score in Australia?
And, what does a batting coach even do?

Travis Head's inexcusable error could cost Australia victory

I do not understand the talk of Head being a bowling option.
Because he bowls, doesn’t make him a bowler.
Slow, straight stuff that relies on the catching ability of the boundary riders to take wickets.
