Firstly, refer to the article’s fifth paragraph.

Secondly, the comparison is utterly irrelevant.

Quid game: Why Newcastle’s Saudi takeover turns my stomach as much as the Netflix classic

This takeover suggests no tipping point exists, and anyone can buy a Premier League team if they have the means.

It’s possible for more than one thing to deserve criticism.

No, and that you’d leap to that assumption reflects your own narrow experience.

“Immoral” — I’m glad we’re in agreement 😊

So you profited from the Saudi regime then defend it with some asinine whataboutism… and accuse others of being “too stupid for the conversation”?

Didn’t you write a book about women’s football last year, and now you’re feting owners from a country that has only permitted women inside football stadia for the first time in 2018?

“Free of the shackles”. You couldn’t script this stuff.

Using “freedom” to describe the arrival of Saudi owners is both ironic and tone-deaf in equal measures.

I agree with you — I wouldn’t categorise Gutherson with those elite fullbacks, and he’s one reason Parramatta have struggled to take those final steps.

Parra are clearly all in on him, though, to speak to the theme of the article.

How many clubs would trade their fullback for Dylan Edwards?

He might cop unfair flak, but it’s not true that most sides would grab him with both hands.

Melbourne, Easts, Manly, Parra, Souths, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Cronulla and Canberra — nine clubs at a minimum, i.e. most teams — certainly would not regard Edwards as an upgrade on their current fullbacks.

That’s fair, my angle is very harsh on a solid component of an excellent team. I’m probably not giving those effort plays enough credit. And if Penrith can convert two years of home-and-away dominance into a premiership, their faith will be vindicated.

Strongly agree with your point about building a team around a fullback, and the fact that the strongest fullbacks are concentrated at the top of the table (bar the Edwards anomaly) is no coincidence.

How many clubs would trade their fullback for Dylan Edwards?

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, especially from the perspective of a Panthers fan.

Part of me thinks that if Edwards is an effective part of such a successful side (which he is), then there’s no need to upset the applecart in pursuit of a premiership.

But another part of me thinks that very few teams win grand finals with a serviceable rather than brilliant fullback. Lachlan Coote is the most limited fullback to win a decider in the past decade, and he was a terrific player.

Smarter minds and closer observers than me will make the call and will ultimately be judged by the number of trophies they add to cabinet.

That’s very true. And Patten was a core component of a consistently good side, much like Edwards too.

‘How many clubs would swap their coach for Anthony Griffin?’ is a separate (and likely much shorter) article!
