I assume that the jersey sponsor for a PNG team would be DFAT.

PNG bid has potential but NRL can’t have further expansion without the three Rs - relocation, relegation or rationalisation

Well, you could always have Jack Wighton who’s been error prone for about the same time. Even in his golden period (2019 in particular) he was always good for a howler per game, at least.

Fans should get a refund: Refereeing de-Klein shows how far NRL's gone backwards since golden age of officials

I think the degree of force is a key factor but also that if you’re driving or jumping upwards to make the tackle it is taken to be an indicator of intent. If you’re doing that, you’re obviously aiming high-ish. Whereas if you’re flat on your feet, tackling at your normal body height, that is less clear. I’d want to have another look at some of the other tackles that were not send offs, to see if there are notable differences.

The send off, and the number of penalties lead me to suspect the refs may have decided on a pre-finals crackdown. Will be interesting to see other matches this round.

This is a lot of the reason why I haven’t been to a Raiders game for years. My complete lack of confidence that the team will show up and put in a decent effort. I’d rather save my $50 (?) and watch on TV or just ignore it and check later on what misery I avoided.

If I was the NRL I’d fine the Storm every time they tried to ignore the fact that they didn’t win those premierships.

Because they lowballed the original estimates to make the business case for the games look good. These latest estimates I suspect are as fat as they can possibly make them in order to justify the decision to bail out.

I think the bigger issue in the Titans game is that they should have only been facing 12, even 11 Eels players for the last part of the game. One clear send off (RCG) was squibbed by the officials, and Sivo’s was arguably send off material too.

Of course, the law of averages suggests that what is more likely to happen is that he reverts to mediocrity with the occasional breakout performance.

Smashing his way through adversity and quelling the haters - the Mitch Marsh journey may have only just begun

The Raiders’ main issue tonight was that Jarrod Croker was an absolute liability in defence. He also offered nothing in attack. I think he’s had some decent games since returning to the team, but everyone’s targeting him now and he’s not up to it.

Is there anybody who missed the player interviews at half time and after the game? Anybody?

Can this be a permanent feature, please?

Is this somehow meant to be bad? The less incoherent grunting through interviews the better, and that’s just the ex=players turned commentators (can they join the ban please?)

I’ve been wondering this, too. How would Australians react if one of our batsmen had been dismissed like this? I expect same or worse than the English.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it doesn’t quite smell right to me, even though it’s out according to the laws. On the other, Bairstow was dumb and lacking situational awareness not checking what was going on around him before going walkabout. Rookie error, deserves punishment.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

I think the evidence suggests he is, indeed, a liar. And he has a few mates among the playing group.

I think the 11 year threshhold is ridiculously high. Make it 5 years or even less.

Why NRL should revisit no fault stand-down policy in the wake of Brown allegations

That’s not true. Reputation damage starts when he’s been arrested and charged, and this becomes public knowledge. It continues during the legal process whenever it’s publicly discussed, and escalates to a higher level if he’s found guilty.

Why NRL should revisit no fault stand-down policy in the wake of Brown allegations

Something I’ve wondered lately is whether bunker officials need to come from the pool of on field officials. What’s to say there’s not some fat old blokes with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules (and decent eyesight) who could do the job but are excluded by the fitness requirements for an on field role.

Making de Belin captain of Dragons a sad indictment on a club that doesn't know what true leadership looks like

I’m sure the almost mandatory scheduling of Broncos games for Thursday or Friday night is somewhat significant in producing the sub-optimal NRL draw for other clubs.

And once you’re at the game, you get to enjoy being gouged for parking, food, drink. (although to be fair, I’m sure this applies to AFL also).

Footy race: Well-run AFL is miles ahead of lumbering NRL - and here are six reasons why

Why stop there? Let’s have 26 refs, one to keep a close eye on each player. Or maybe 34, in case they have trouble remembering who they’re watching when their player is interchanged.

Don’t need a second ref to focus on 10m and late shots. 2 of them are already there but don’t seem to do anything but hold their flags and run up and down the sideline.

I heard it reported that the attacker was also an amateur boxer. In which case boxing should step up and permanently ban him, along with soccer. In fact, bye bye any sport should be the outcome for the guy. Plus several years in jail.
