A Brisbane Lions and Chelsea man forever.

You’re absolutely right about Robinson Paul. The big worry about him here last (our) summer was his stamina and his ability to be as strong on days 3,4 and 5 as he is on days 1 and 2. He seems to be a great bowler in his first 2 spells but falls away badly after that.
No doubt the 300+ support staff that England have brought with them will have identified this issue and are no doubt working on the problem now. This despite the fact we all knew this was a problem 6 months ago.
English cricket….It’s the hope that kills!

Where to from here for England and Australia?

As a depressed Englishman, I have to say that I’d prefer Woakes to Stokes in Adelaide. Stokes clearly isn’t fit.Why would he be, he hasn’t played any real cricket for goodness knows how long. What if he breaks down again? His batting was poor in Brisbane whilst Woakes looked half decent. England simply have to win this Test. Who is the better option…a half fit Stokes or a fully fit Woakes?

Where to from here for England and Australia?

The D/N Adelaide Test was one that I thought Chris Woakes was a certainty for. It’s as near as bowling in England as he’ll get in Australia. He should never have played at the Gabba ( Broad should have, obviously) and should have been primed to go at Adelaide. No doubt he’ll miss out and that will be his tour over.
I honestly despair about the lack of any cricket sense by the English set up. I’ve got a bet with a mate of mine that we’ll win easily in Hobart. The sad part is that we’ll be 4-0 down by then.

Ashes Scout: Vaughan blasts Poms, Archer thought he'd killed Smith, Maxwell eyes Test recall

Frankly, I’m surprised that anyone on the Roar would think that Michael (2005 Ashes winning captain) would talk complete and absolute rubbish about cricket. Us, back here in the freezing UK, are used to his totally ridiculous rantings. I thought that the 2005 Ashes winning Captain, after his recent dramas, would keep a low profile for a while and stop talking complete claptrap every time he opens his rather large mouth.
Sadly, it appears that I was wrong.

I’m in pompous mode but my favourite quote is…..For evil to flourish good men do nothing.

Vaughan stood down from his BBC radio show in wake of racism allegations

You’re right, he was and Jason Gillespie sacked him. The problems with Yorkshire cricket aren’t about this latest scandal, it’s been an ongoing issue for far too many years, and now the chickens have come home to roost.

Vaughan stood down from his BBC radio show in wake of racism allegations

Sort of Paul. Yorkshire cricket has had a reputation for racist behaviour for as long as I can remember. I can remember Viv Richards going into the crowd to confront a group of drunks after being dismissed in a county game back in the 70’s after being viciously racially abused. Ian Botham tried to join him! The general attitude in cricket at that time was, that was the Yorkshire way and we should all just grin and bear it and give thanks that they gave us Hutton, Verity, Sutcliffe, Truman etc.
Thankfully times and attitudes have changed but sadly Yorkshires never did. Yorkshire in the 80’s and 90’s should have become a powerhouse of English cricket due to the influx of young Asian boys playing the game in the local leagues. But sadly so few were made welcome and even fewer were given any sort of opportunity.
This desperately sad situation is going to continue for years to come but could have been resolved had Yorkshire moved with the times, not had the attitude that this is what we’ve done for the last 50 years, so why change now?

'Gobsmacked' England great responds to Yorkshire racism scandal allegation

I might have a bit more sympathy for Michael ( 2005 Ashes winning Captain ) Vaughan if, since his retirement, he hadn’t set himself up as ‘The Voice of Cricket’ in this country. He has put himself on a pedestal as the man who say’s what he thinks and if the cricket boards of the world had any brains at all, they’d hire him ( 2005 Ashes winning Captain ) to sort any issues out, usually before lunch and they can celebrate his success and wisdom with 18 holes at St Andrews afterwards.
Honestly, it’s pathetic how much influence this man has wielded over English cricket these past few years. We don’t know what was said that day in that dressing room but what we do know was that the Yorkshire culture during the period of his career was completely toxic and he, as a senior statesman in the game, apparently did nothing about it.
It’s been interesting to say the least to see how much support he’s received from his media mates over here. The silence has been deafening.Perhaps they’re all reflecting on how quick the 2005 Ashes winning captain was in sinking the boot into Ollie Robinson after a few ridiculous tweets he sent as a teenager were exposed while he was making his test debut.
Michael…..what goes around, comes around.

Well, it’s been on the cards for a while now but that’s the end of Test cricket as we’ve known and loved it. From now on we’ll just see India,England and Australia playing 3-4 Test Match Series on high rotation and the rest of the test playing world can basically get stuffed.
I fully expect the IPL to play 2 competitions a year, 6 months apart each lasting 2 months and the rest of the cricket calendar will have to fit their schedules in around that and whose going to stop them?

Man United owners blown away as astonishing $2b IPL deal makes it 'most powerful' comp in the sport

Ollie Robinson had a really good Test summer here. The problem was the longer the Test went on, the less effective he was. In a couple of Tests he was barely military medium in his last spells, which doesn’t bode well on days 4 and 5 ( if they last that long! ) in the series ahead.

'A player Australia fear': England's joy as Stokes emerges from 'dark place' to join Ashes party

They are.

Sadly recent form tells us that Paine is a better Test batsman than Butler as well.

This would be the same Stuart Broad who was filmed limping into a TV studio 2 weeks ago. In imho they could afford to bring one of either Broad or Anderson but not both. I thought this could have been the series where Chris Woakes could really have made his mark. Sadly I don’t think he’ll play a test now.

That’s Michael ( 2005 Ashes winning captain ) Vaughan to you mate!

'A player Australia fear': England's joy as Stokes emerges from 'dark place' to join Ashes party

Quite right Paul. Why not give him a go. If it doesn’t work out, give someone else the job. He’s being elected the captain not the Pope.

'An activity for sadists': Three hurdles Cummins must clear to become our first bowling captain in 65 years

Nick Hockley has just been on the radio over here saying that he’s totally confident about the Ashes going ahead, although he is a bit worried about the 5th Test taking place in Perth. On going discussions are taking place but he’s 100% confident that she’ll be right mate ( OK that last sentence was mine )
Apparently the ECB are ‘digging their heels in’ over certain conditions and no one wants to tell us what they are.
The whole thing has the potential to be a total farce if they’re not careful.

Cricket Australia chair resigns after messy fallout

I always remember Maureen’s comment when she heard that 50 year old Frank Sinatra was planning on marrying her 21 year old daughter ” If Frank’s going to marry anyone, he’ll marry me!”
I’d had loved to see her face a few months later as Frank walked Mia down the aisle!

Pucovski's latest concussion raises doubt over Ashes ambitions

I’ve never heard of anyone being allowed to be sconed so much.

Pucovski's latest concussion raises doubt over Ashes ambitions

This is desperately sad but not surprising. 10 known concussions at 23 years of age? When is enough enough? Surely CA has a duty of care to at least take this young man out of the firing line. He’s still only young and can afford to take a couple of years out of the game.
The statement says they’re looking forward to having him back at training when he’s recovered. It’s totally outrageous. If he was a rugby league, union or AFL player would he be allowed to play on? I wrote a comment piece about this last year and was hammered by some, saying I don’t know what I’m talking about. There entitled to their opinions as am I to mine. I’m obviously not a doctor but surely any remotely sane or sensible person would say that this young man should really be doing something else for a living.

Apparently so….my dog seemed to enjoy it and can’t wait for next summer.

'They played for Bankstown 4ths': Should cricket's power brokers have played at highest level?

The Ashes isn’t 100% set in stone yet. Apparently there are still some issues to be sorted out from this end. I get the distinct feeling that the ECB wouldn’t mind at all if the whole thing was cancelled. The cricket media here are still sulking as apparently only 12 or so of them will be given exemptions in Australia. Everyone else will have to take their chances with regards lockdowns etc. BT Sport which has the TV rights aren’t sending a team and will be taking the Channel 7 feed and I’m not sure whats happening with the BBC radio coverage. Agnew says he’s going but I’m not sure how many others will be going with him.
So I think you make a good point re the ECB. I just wish everyone would just shut up and try to concentrate on the cricket.

Cricket Australia chair resigns after messy fallout

It’s not a difficult concept to comprehend, is it? But you can relax in Australia. Whatever ridiculous idea your board comes up with, I’ll guarantee that the ECB will have it covered in the stupidity stakes. Remember, we’ve got The 100 here, which has cost a fortune, dominates high summer and has decimated all other domestic cricket. Yet if you were to ask your average cricket lover here, they’d be hard pressed to name any of the teams playing in it let alone who actually won it.

'They played for Bankstown 4ths': Should cricket's power brokers have played at highest level?

Whether Bradman saw WSC coming, I don’t know but from what I’ve read about him, if he did see it coming he would have totally dismissed it. Apparently, he was the worst kind of administrator who thought his opinion was the only one that mattered and any money Australia had in the bank was to be spent the way he thought it should be.
