The Melbourne derby produced something that has been so far lacking in the Big Bash: passion. It was still good to see a few…
The recent temporary withdrawal of Shane Warne from the Melbourne Stars has put the magnifying glass on the Big Bash League. If players are…
I don’t think anyone’s disputing that it’s great for Adelaide. But about 90% of footy fans aren’t in Adelaide, and a vast majority of those will never go to a gather round there. The lack of accommodation means that you’d have to pay insane amounts for a hotel room or camp out.
I’d love to see it in Brisbane where it’s much more accessible.
If the AFL 'really care' about bringing footy fans together, they'll keep Gather Round in SA
Maybe, but if he didn’t have the reputation he probably would have got the kick.
The message to players should be loud and clear – stop playing for frees and you’re more likely to get free kicks. Trying to cheat your way to frees will not work.
Umpires' anti-Ginnivan bias has reached a new low - it's time for the AFL to step in
What a load of rubbish.
Umpiring is hard. Things happen in a split second and the umpire has to make a call equally quickly. In the case of a tackle, if a tackle starts legally and is forced high due to an arm lift or shrug, the correct call is play on.
Now, with Ginnivan, he is constantly raising his arm for no purpose other than to force the tackler high. If the umpire sees the arm go up, it’s fair to assume that’s the reason the tackle went high. Put simply, he needs to stop doing it. He might get a few calls his way then.

Haha only when you include attendees at concerts like Taylor Swift and Pink….which are held in stadiums. In fact most major concerts are held in major stadiums, both indoor and outdoor.
The AFL should lead the way in proposing better-value, cheaper stadiums - without having to rely so much on the taxpayer
Given most arts facilities get far less patronage than stadiums, plenty is wrong with that if you hold a position that stadiums should be 100% privately funded.
Most people aren’t opposed to government funded entertainment spending, they just only want it for things they approve of.
The AFL should lead the way in proposing better-value, cheaper stadiums - without having to rely so much on the taxpayer
Which of course is their choice. Want a team? Get the stadium. Don’t want a stadium? No team then.

What about museums, art galleries theaters and the like? I’ve noticed that most anti stadium people also want more arts funding….

Who’s forcing the Tasmanian bid? Not the AFL.

Hopefully it’s a genuine day nighter, which cashes in on the Indian TV market.
CA makes Perth call - where and when Australia's blockbuster Tests against India will be played
Pretty sure the proposed new stadium will be a state owned asset available to whoever wants it, including an A League team.
And community level sport has no need for large stadiums, so that doesn’t justify the expense of construction. Nor even the promise given the likelihood that any A League licence will not be community owned and actually held by an ultra rich entrepreneur. Governments shouldn’t be subsidising the rich.
What Olympic glory would mean for Australian football - and why Steph Catley is the right woman to lead the Matildas to it
Make a commitment for a community owned A League team and maybe you’ll get some buy in from the government.
That you expect the government to pay for a facility – a massive one that probably would never be filled at that – without even a team to play there is the height of insanity.

Why on earth do they need a 15k capacity venue in Tasmania? They don’t even have a professional team, let alone one capable of drawing crowds like that. And even if they were to get one it’s likely to be privately owned, not community owned.

I certainly did not say that. I just said it makes him sound arrogant and sanctimonious.

Wealth and influence.
Yes, Katter is part of the elite.
'Choose a better date': Cummins wants Australia Day moved as CA chief sledged for 'bizarre' trainwreck interview
Changing the date is a common opinion on the left, it’s not a different idea at all.

You’re comparing him to people paid to give their opinion?

I don’t think anyone’s questioned his right to speak. But he’s obviously going to pick and choose what issues he wants to talk about. I doubt he’s offering his opinion on various wars going on for instance.
But everyone else has that same freedom as well, and if people believe he’s a pontificating snob, then so be it.

No, it simply exposes the divide between the elites and the 99%.
Cummins is in no position to lecture the public about anything, except maybe quality fast bowling.

You’re confusing the true liberal left of 30 years ago with today’s modern left which abhors free speech and different ideas.
It’s a genuine shame.

I don’t disagree with him at all, I would have no problem if the date of Australia day changed.
What I dislike is people in their ivory tower preaching to the rest of us as if they pretend to be superior human beings. Sorry Pat, you’re a great cricketer but worth no more as a human than everyone else.

Trying to improve it? How’s he doing that? All I see is someone talking.

It’d been a while since Cummins chimed in about non cricket matters. He could obviously feel public opinion moving in a positive direction, so it was time to stop that and remind everyone how much better a person he is than everyone else. Next stop will be telling everyone to reduce their carbon emissions despite him having a bigger carbon footprint than 99.9% of Australians.

Might have found a solution to poor crowd figures though.
Just hold double headers and count everyone through the gates in the published numbers for both games!
Is the A-Leagues' Unite Round worth persisting with next season?
Brisbane has a lot more hotel rooms and a lot more flights in. It would be cheaper to attend as a result, as opposed to Adelaide, where the same number of additional tourists drives prices a lot higher.
