Dom, I can see you are young aspiring sports journo, good effort mate. Its obvious Benji is your hero, and you are sad that people are criticizing him, however I believe he deserves it. Your article also contains clear error of fact, notably the last sentence. Also Blair has not hit form, just shifted to the front row which is just catch, run and tackle. And Potter should grow some kahunas and drop benji to reserve grade where he belongs.
And now for the truth about Benji Marshall –
Benji Marshall is a selfish, arrogant, overrated and overpaid player! His inconsistant form over the past few years (and very poor form in 2013) does not justify his paycheck. Yet he is so arrogant he thinks he deserves $1mil per season, when he didn’t get it he threw a tantrum, asked for a release and put himself on the open market believing he could attract $1mil ps. When he realised the offer was never coming, he took whatever he could get, a reported $500,000 (could be less?) Auckland Blues contract. Benji really believes he is better than everyone else, he was once a talented footballer, but now he is failing miserably as a decent human being.

Good article Pat, I wasn’t a fan of your previous article glorifing Bellamy and the Storm cheats. However it seems you may have seen the light and realised that melbourne storm are responsible for the National Wrestling League that we have now. As for ideas to fix the problem, I’ve got nothing. NRL fans are voting with feet and their TV remotes, hopfully someone in power will realise this and do something about it.
For everyone else, yes I do hate melbourne storm (not Manly anymore, at least their honest). Yes, I do blame them for introducing the wrestle and ruining the once great game of Rugby League. And Yes, I will never forgive them for cheating for 5 years and tarnishing our great game forever ( * on the trophy, what a joke). If you feel the need to defend the melbourne storm, bring it on! You are only doing it because you know that I’m right.

Compare that to 5 years of systematic salary cap rorting, thats 5 years of cheating that has tarnished Rugby League forever. Bellamy would be nothing without his cheating so called ‘big 3’. Thats why he didn’t take the Dragons job, he knew he couldn’t win without good players in the team. If he coached Parramatta, do you think he could take them to the grand final? No Chance, he might take them to 10th at best. All Bellamy has done is brought in wrestling and slow play tactics to Rugby League and ruined the game forever. Lets not forget he was cheating for 5 years, thats 5 years of winning games and premierships that honest clubs deserved. ‘The hipster of NRL coaching ranks’, pffft yeah right buddy, he was also the coach of the biggest grand final defeat of all time, Manly 40-0, and yes they cheating when that happened.

Where to now for rugby league?
Benji is so up himself, thinks he is the best ever, his head is so big im suprised the others players could fit in the sheds. He will fail miserably in rugby and end up playing ITM Cup. If the Auckland Blues pay him $500,000 per season they will be the laughing stock of Super Rugby, they obviously haven’t watched any Tigers games this year. Benji is a turnstile in defence, especially on the tryline, and half his passes end up on the ground. Good riddence Benji, the Tigers are better off without you.

You can thank Melbourne Storm for bringing in wrestling to Rugby League. Bellamy and the rest of those cheats should of been rubbed out of the NRL after the salary cap cheating. Now look what we have, boring games with no end in sight. Thanks alot Melbourne Storm, you grubs have ruined Rugby League forever.

+1 Maguire learnt all his gruby tactics from the storm cheats. And now these tactics (grapple, wrestle, squirrel grip, crusher, slow the ruck, blatent professional fouls) have infultrated and ruined rugby league forever. And the refs are pathetic.
