Excellent analysis and great article! I liked your pieces on the other games too.

Brisbane 1-0 Central Coast: match analysis

Thanks for your comments guys, sorry to disappoint with some of the lower rating, but yes, perhaps I will revise the substitute ratings as impact rather than game-time.

I generally don’t like giving ratings lower than a 5, but going off a 5 as being a solid, expected, average performance its hard to say everyone played better than average.

Last week I wrote an article praising James for his movement and finishing and seeing what he is capable of when he is performing at his best. I think he is much better suited to central positioning roles where he can use frame and awareness to interplay with teammates and then unleash his great finishing skills. In the wing position, he has to employ a higher level of acceleration, pace, dribbling technique and on-ball agility, a lot more than he would normally use in the central positions, and lets face it, he didn’t really show the high level of quickness and agility that wingers use to maximise that position (like Andrezinho in the Perth game, or even Issey on the left wing) .

Berisha will definitely be a great quality striker for the Roar, but I think at the moment, and in this game, he struggled to fit in with the Roar’s 4-1-2-3 system and drop into space to provide support and lay-offs to advancing midfielder/wingers. When Barbarouses played in that similar position he would often drop very deep in the midfield area to recieve the ball and build the play with the wingers and other midfielders from there and then get on the end of a cut back or through ball and score. It felt as though Berisha, in this game, skipped the involvement in the build up and preferred to wait high up on the line to then make a quick run and recieve the ball for the finish.

Brisbane Roar's legacy looking good

Yes, they announced it during the match at Suncorp Stadium. Nichols, Nakajima-Farran and Ryan were fantastic but I think it was Broich’s work ethic and involvement in many of the attacking plays that made him MOTM. Yeah, I agree that Broich has had better games in the past, particularly in the dribbling and passing areas. Thanks for your comments though TomC!
