Just a couple of random thoughts. The lack of intensity from the QLD forwards was the most disappointing part for me. Fifita is still a bit of a flat track bully in my opinion and Coates continues to drop almost every high ball and get caught out of position in defence constantly. Harry Grant tried hard. Scoreline was probably a fair reflection of how well NSW played. Was not a great reflection on Paul Green’s preparation.

State of Origin 1 match result: Blues crush Maroons 50-6 in Origin 1 massacre

I don’t know all the details but I have read the Broncos lowballed Nico Hynes. Recruitment remains in shambles. The Broncos ‘aura’ is gone, you can’t get away with paying unders anymore.

Six talking points from NRL Round 13

I bet on game night Sims will drop to the bench for Haas to start. Pretty much no surprises in there.

REVEALED: Brad Fittler names NSW Blues team for State of Origin 1

The bookies seem to think it will be a big NSW win 🙂

Can this NSW team win back the Origin shield?

Very exciting future for QLD but just through sheer numbers NSW should never being on the receiving end of a ‘dynasty’ It took a group of about 6 potential immortals (Smith, Lockyer, Thurston, Slater, Inglis, Cronk etc) together to create the run QLD had.

This Maroons team has the potential to start another dynasty

There are a lot of really weak teams this year, a favourable draw helps the cause immensely.

Are we witnessing the greatest NRL season of all time?

He doesn’t really have a great % of catching bombs. Impressive leap though

Xavier Coates shows off some cross-code skills ahead of move to Melbourne

Fingers crossed the ex-Storm CEO can bring some of that magic over with him to Brisbane 🙂 Surely our cycle of sucking is due to end.

Is the NRL becoming too predictable?

Very easy to type, much harder in practice. Like players, there is only so many top line administrators to go round. Also only so many wealthy benefactors willing to spend the money.

Is the NRL becoming too predictable?

Try scorer kicking would be great laughs and entertainment. PVL would implement this before Origin if he hears about it.

Is the NRL becoming too predictable?

Yes and no in my opinion. There is the top 5 and then everyone else, like 2 divisions. You might get minor upsets between slightly better teams in the same division but the chances of a team in the lower division defeating someone in the higher division is almost zero. Other than the Dragons beating the Eels once, I don’t recall any team outside the top 5 beating someone inside the top 5.

Is the NRL becoming too predictable?

Something I would find interesting for the stat gurus out there. How many people have failed a HIA from a high tackle compared to a HIA from making a tackle?

Peter V'landys takes aim at the media's reporting of the NRL's high tackle purge

One concern I have with the latest interpretation is players doing what Tedesco does with diving/dropping before impact. We already see it with crusher tackles where players deliberately ‘reversing’ putting themselves in dangerous positions for the sake of a penalty. Also see it (albeit not as much now) where players being held up will jump and dive head first for a quicker play the balls. How do you prevent reckless players ‘taking a shot for the team’.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 10

What do you guys think about any 1v1 tackle being declared dominant? Would reward legs tackles and reduce the whole deliberately holding a guy up so 3 mates can have a free shot at them.

Trent Robinson's call for NRL edict calm

I could go either way on this, both sides of the argument have strong cases. However, contrary to most posts here, the devil’s advocate in me is screaming that maybe it’s time that it should matter when serious off field incidents occur.

Jarryd Hayne may belong in prison, but removing him from the NRL’s record books solves nothing

Hopefully the circle keeps going and we sign Reynolds or someone of that caliber shortly. Lately its felt more like a downward spiral than a circle.

Turn-Coates: Broncos young gun Storm-bound

Looks like you have to run them over with a tank to get a grade 5

Does Dylan Brown deserve a lengthy stint on the sidelines?

I can’t help thinking that there would be ways to exploit a system like this keeping certain players out longer than warranted. Coaches are masters of loophole exploitation.

Does Dylan Brown deserve a lengthy stint on the sidelines?

Slightly off topic but was there any reason the Rooster’s teammate had both his legs and sort of moving them around while he was on the ground in obvious pain? I’ve never seen or heard of that before as trying to alleviate injury or pain?

Does Dylan Brown deserve a lengthy stint on the sidelines?

Too many people are still living in a fantasy world where they think club doctors are beyond reproach and are completely impartial.

Does Dylan Brown deserve a lengthy stint on the sidelines?

If Geoff Toovey was playing in the 6 again era , it would be the greatest sight ever seen on a field.

Does Dylan Brown deserve a lengthy stint on the sidelines?

I’m no fan of how the Roosters operate and tbh the officials also didn’t back up the crackdown on cynical 6 again tactics that the Roosters employed during the game. That said, he is 100% correct and both of those Parramatta players should have been sent off. The thing stopping them is the media and other influential people busting out the idea that it would ‘ruin the game’.

NRL failed to back up crackdown: Robinson

Real top quality side, shown by the caliber of people missing out. Coates defense really has me worried. Opacic is a little risky and would have to see good form continue for a bit longer. Brimson supremely unlucky, I would be tempted to have him on the bench in Hunt’s spot.

Is it too early to start talking about Origin? Part 2: Queensland

Broncos getting flogged as a talking point is just copy paste week after week. I wonder how many spoons it is going to take before they do a real independent review and actually follow though on it.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 7

A small step but needs to keep going like you said with the on field punishments being severe and as consistent as possible, then backed up by the judiciary. Relics of the game will hate it and call it things like ‘touch football’ ‘a girls game’ and to ‘go play afl/netball/soccer’. The NRL has caved in the past to these people, let’s hope that the current admin holds their nerve. The future of the game depends on it.

Is the NRL finally starting to 'get it' by punishing high shots?
