A self proclaimed cricket tragic and also a lover of the Rugby Union. However, there are only two sports I don't truly follow, soccer and golf.

I think I would enjoy being in attendance at your party.

How to prepare for a Bledisloe match

PErsonally I think the media in general have missed an amazing opportunity to support women’s sport.

You say Clarke missed the ball, yet, I haven’t seen any articles about the women’s test match on this site. Except this one… which doesn’t come from a congratulatory stand point, it comes from a facetious attack on Clarke.

Pot, kettle, black.

Clarke missed a chance for redemption

WIth respect TomC, you are the one who replied with a surly response to mine.

As for continuing with respect:

I look at the squad very differently to you. I see as much, if not more potential then the squads above us on the ladder, except the top 4 and in his years of coaching he hasn’t once managed to develop these younger players into a decent team. Which to me means he has underachieved, so let us split the middle on this and agree he has been ‘average’ for his squad.

Here are some other points from my knowledge on this discussion:
1. Voss was the key instigater in the Fevola ‘incident’
2. Voss was the key player in signing their ‘talent manager’
3. There recorde this year is 8 wins, 11 losses – 42% win rate – comparable with his record.
4. One or two good runs does not make you a good coach, consistant good runs does.
5. I am under the impression that he did not ‘coach’ the side during the NAB cup as well acting more as an assistant or player coach throughout the pre-season series.

So, I would like to ask again, what facts would you like to present that justify his position.

Brisbane Lions sack Michael Voss

110 games, 44 wins, 40% win ratio. I would like to see some justification on why you believe he has been ‘acceptable’.

Brisbane Lions sack Michael Voss

Why did he as the coach have one of the youngest squads? His decisions as a coach have played a big part in that.

Brisbane Lions sack Michael Voss

Only two?

Performance isn’t one of them?

Brisbane Lions sack Michael Voss

Wow… really?

Barely two months with a high pressure series away from home. Placed in a position where he had no input into the squad, preparation or team activities for the tour, at short notice where he probably hadn’t done much research on the team/players outside of his own personal interest. And you are calling for his head? or at the least putting the blame on him?

Aussie choke hands England series win

The women’s team is all ready over there… and you will see that they are doing pretty well in their game against England currently.

Aussie choke hands England series win

I can’t for the life of me understand how they expect someone to come into the side at 3 and succeed with no experience at the highest level and all the pressure associated with the position.

Not many in the history of cricket have walked into 3 from the start of their career and succeeded over a long period of time.

TALKING POINTS: England win fourth Test and Ashes series

Most “test” batsmen have “ordinary techniques”. Clarke doesn’t even have a great technique. Hayden didn’t, Langer didn’t, Border didn’t, Trott doesn’t, Cook doesn’t, the list goes on and on and on.

The difference between most of those names and this team, mental strength and experience. The best know their weaknesses and counteract that with defence/leaving/changing technique somehow.

In fact, I can’t think of too many players that had a great technique at a young age or within their first 50 tests.

Here’s a list of more people with technical flaws: Slater, Chappel, Bradman (oh, I went there), Taylor, Kallis, Chanderpaul, Lara, Dravid…

TALKING POINTS: England win fourth Test and Ashes series

Um.. KP does exactly that. Punter did it… that’s two.

TALKING POINTS: England win fourth Test and Ashes series

Wow, great read! Very informative. I look forward to seeing them in action. Not much longer.

New scrum laws help Alexander but hurt Robinson

Kudos to England for me. I think the Aus boys have played almost as well as they could’ve at times and had England against the wall, yet, the culture in the team is to never lay down and as a result they have come back in every game to win. The third test would’ve been interesting to see, if my memory is correct, they were in a similar position against NZ and held on for the draw.

To me they are a good team (no where near great anymore) that show grit and have a great culture. Aus on the other hand are a good team that lack the grit and culture..

TALKING POINTS: England win fourth Test and Ashes series

Woo for the knee jerk reaction with absolutely no solution offered. Khwaja looks horribly out of form… it was my fear that he would be thrown to the wolves after months on the sideline. Smith, in case you forgot batted absolutely brilliantly just recently and showed that whilst he doesn’t have the prettiest technique going around he actually has some grit.

Why not stick with these guys, give them a chance to develop and improve? Who would you replace them with?

Look at Ian Bell… he was a muppet against Australia at the start of his career and now… well… he has arguably one them one series (in Australia) and probably even won them this series…

TALKING POINTS: England win fourth Test and Ashes series

I’m going to agree with your premise (that is should be canned) but unfortunately, in this era of money, media attention and technological advancements. I just don’t think the game will remain marketable without it.

I think what we all forget is this: Before UDRS, we whinged about the umpires. Now we just whinge about a system instead of the umpires.

The depressing DRS

Would the English batsmen have played those poor shots if it wasn’t for the tight and consistant bowling?

ASHES: Talking points from Chester-le-Street Day One

An average of 31.39 with the ball… an economy rate of 2.77 and Clarke even if he doesn’t like him trusts him enough to throw him the ball every time a breakthrough is needed…

I understand the argument that he is not an opener… I can even understand the argument that he may be a cancer but I can not understand any argument about dropping him based on form. Until someone puts their hand up in shield cricket to take his spot, it is his.

I don’t know too many average international cricketers that didn’t have a prolonged period of low form. He is no superstar, yes, however, he does his job with the ball and has, in the past, done his job with the bat.

Why is Watson in the Australian Test team?

Who gets to decide what is blatant or not? Every decision to be checked that isn’t? I have been told from people involved in umpiring that there is on average 15 genuine appeals per day (that doesn’t count half hearted appeals – the really blatant ones). A review takes a minimum of 1 minutes – by the time it goes up stairs, checked, goes back down to the field and play is ready to resume. So, on the avverage day of cricket we have a minimum of 15 minutes (that’s 3.75 overs of cricket).

Imagine now if you will a game in India… last day… spinning wicket… players all around the bat… I’m thinking there would be conservatively 20 appeals on average a day there… that’s a minimum of 5 and half overs in time…

Cricket is all ready slow… please let us not slow it down further.

The depressing DRS

Last time I checked this was called test match cricket… A fascinating session. Plenty of aggression from the Aussies and some great test match batting by the English.

Brilliant stuff by both teams so far. This is test match cricket… not this throw the bat around like you only have 1 day to bat stuff…

Law 6!

It is definately against the law. Unless they can successfully argue that it is for repair.

Dump Hot Spot and get ready to hand down massive fines

I may get shot down in flames by the trolls for this but…

Siddle has that personality trait. Ticker, heart and passion in spades. But.. he will never be given the ‘leadership’ as he is such a poor ‘political’ choice.

10 reasons the outlook's bleak for Aussie cricket

Criticise, no. Whinge, yes. Duh!

10 reasons the outlook's bleak for Aussie cricket

Fantastic reply!

I hate the way England play Test cricket

15-love? Don’t you mean… game, set, match. I don’t even know why I keep writing this authors articles. In fact… I hesitated before reading this one and saw the comment count and thought… hmm.. he may have something to say… Alas, no… Hyperbole, assumptions and everything I hate in journalism.

Why compete if you have to cheat?

You missed an option.

The media is to blame. The reason we have drs is becausing of the idiocy of the media when a ‘bad’, ‘wrong’ and ‘marginal’ call ends a career, causes a loss etc…

If it wasn’t for the media, there would be no need.

Just look at how the commentators and journo’s harp on when there is a bad decision. So, with the money involved and the perception the ICC are of ourse going to look to minimise that bad press and perception

DRS: are players, umpires or fans to blame?
