I take your opinion AGO74. I wasn’t saying that because players play centre-midfield they will be better analysts/commentators than goalkeepers. I was saying that Bozza is not an expert commentator because he was a goalkeeper. It’s a different skill, something that you have to learn and it’s likely that a midfielder would know more about tactics than a goalkeeper because they most likely have more tactical responsibilities, therefore having to learn more.
Mark Bosnich: Expert or ego?
I agree with your first statement. You can play as many games as you want and win as many trophies, but while as a player you can use your unique insight to help make analysis, it is a completely different skill to analyse or call a game. There is a reason why in a football club players don’t do the tactical analysis side of things. It’s because the players know how to play, and the analysts know how to analyse. I’m not saying Bosnich isn’t a good analyst because he makes some interesting observations, but it’s not because he played in the Premier League.
Mark Bosnich: Expert or ego?
I doubt Craig Foster will go back into being a pundit, he’ll likely do things here and there but he seems to have truly moved on; He’s doing some fantastic work with his Game Over campaign for refugees. Ben Homer seems to show some good promise, hopefully, he can get a few more high profile games this season to garner a following.
Mark Bosnich: Expert or ego?
Yeah, I agree, sometimes Speedy seems to make a comment as Bosnich just uses it to remind him and everyone at home what expertise he possesses. I agree he does have valuable insight, but instead of telling us how he possesses that valuable insight, he could show us. A classic example of show, don’t tell!

I would like to see them try out a dynamic 4-2-3-1, but it is unlikely they will build a team around Ninkovic considering his age. Sydney have a certain style that suits them well and I doubt Steve Corica will be looking to change up the system too much. I do agree about Brandon O’neil though, Sydney have missed his work rate in midfield.
Sydney FC needs to follow the trend and give youth a go
I’ll have to check out that platform, thanks. However, I feel it would be better for the league if the FFA was to run an official fantasy league.
It's time for an A-League fantasy league
I do see your point, but the fact that the Premier League has done so well with a fantasy league gives me hope that other competitions can do the same. However, I do agree that the system will need to favour players who actually play well consistently over the game, not the striker that scores the final goal. However, there is good marketing potential, especially for a league like the A-League that is looking to appeal to the next generation.
It's time for an A-League fantasy league
I’ll definitely look into it, and I’ll try to get a few people to help me understand the concept to allow for evidence as well as giving my thoughts. Stay tuned over the next week or two!
Who really is the favourite heading into the finals?
That’s a very interesting question and something I may look at in the future. I guess it depends on the quality of the defender and the confidence of the player. I remember I loved watching Shayon Harrison for Melbourne City last season (on loan from Tottenham) because every time he’d get the ball he’d take his marker on. More often than not he’d win the duel. That’s something I’d love to see more from in the A-League, especially with Australian wingers.
Who really is the favourite heading into the finals?
That could be true, but we can’t really judge Barbarouses’ ability in a 1 v 1 situation if he never takes the defender on.
Who really is the favourite heading into the finals?
I agree about Maclaren. If he’s on his best form Melbourne City could beat any team in the finals series except for maybe Sydney FC depending on their form and if they win their semi-final, of course.
Who really is the favourite heading into the finals?
Thanks, Lionheart, glad you enjoyed it! I agree about Western United, but I feel it would be good for the A-League if a first-year expansion team does well in finals. I also agree about Wellington, I would like to see them do well but their poor form may come back to haunt them.
Who really is the favourite heading into the finals?
I don’t think that a team can ‘save’ for finals. Especially on a span of five weeks. Against Western United, I thought Sydney played well and created plenty of good chances, but after the equaliser, they seemed to settle with a draw and struggled to show any form of initiative or creativity. For me, they seem to be playing too much into the system, and Steve Corica isn’t giving them enough license to express themselves. There were four or five times when Kosta Barbarouses found himself one on one on the wing with a defender and instead of taking him on, he waited before playing a pass back. For me, that says a lot about Sydney in recent weeks.
Who really is the favourite heading into the finals?
Usually, when I live blog I don’t really get many responses, but I did find it quite weird last night because I thought that people would be excited for the return of football. It did appear that way as I’m pretty sure the blog got 700-800 views but, as Stevo says there was no real fan engagement.
The A-League's fan-base could use an attitude adjustment
Great to see you on the Roar again, Mike.
The A-League's fan-base could use an attitude adjustment
I agree. Overcommitting is a big problem in the A-League and the likes of Milos Ninkovic know how to exploit that space that they make extremely well.
La pausa and its use in the A-League
Thanks, Stuart. I agree, and footballers not keeping their heads up when receiving a pass is frustrating and something I may look at in the future for the A-League. I never had the experience of watching Le Tissier play live but from stories and YouTube videos, it seemed that he was one of if not the best when it came to pausa.
La pausa and its use in the A-League
I agree. There are two great players there and I really enjoy watching them both on the ball, but they struggle considerably with their decision making. La pausa is interesting because it’s not something that can be measured within statistics, so it’s no wonder that Elvis Kamosba is underperforming his XG and XA. I like the story about the penalty and red card as well!
La pausa and its use in the A-League
I especially think it’s something that the Fox analysts should explore deeper. They rarely go deep into the tactics of the game, and pointing out something like pausa allows viewers to then look out for it, therefore enhancing the experience of watching a game.
La pausa and its use in the A-League
Thanks, Midfielder. I agree. I love watching Sergio Busquets play that mixture of a 6 off the ball and acting like a 10 on it. He football mind is brilliant, and he knows how to draw players in and create space in the midfield.
La pausa and its use in the A-League
Hi Kanggas, sorry for the late response. I’ll have a look at some of those players and try to get in touch. Thanks for the suggestion!
Nigel Boogaard on playing against Manchester United and if he'll stay at Newcastle
Thanks, Chris. That is an interesting point about coaches, as they are the ones who implement it within players. Pep Guardiola possessed pausa as a player and has shown Sergio Busquets how to use it effectively as a coach.
La pausa and its use in the A-League
I completely agree. As I said, I would love people in Australia become more aware of it and utilise it effectively. It is only something I became aware of two weeks ago and I merely am trying to show more people what it is. Hope you enjoyed the article!

Speedy is a thorough researcher and sometimes that means a good viewing, but what I loved about Simon Hill is that he didn’t rely on what he’d gathered before the game, he relied on what was going on during the moment and went with the flow. If there was a stoppage period he would take the time to share an interesting statistic but would mostly focus on the game at hand. Speedy just seems to at times rely too much on his research and that comes through from a viewing perspective.
