After winning United’s first five games, Sunday's narrow win over Tottenham was Solskjaer’s first real challenge as caretaker manager, one that was passed with…
I agree that the defensive unit is United’s weakest. The re-strengthening in the window I think will focus on the back line – we’ve been linked with Varane, Koulibaly and Skriniar already at CB, and Wan-Bissaka and Meunier at RB. We desperately need one from each of those categories at bare minimum. I was focussing on the rest of the season though, what we need to do in the remaining games to set us up for next year. While they are lacking in quality, the defence has actually been performing above-par in my opinion. Hard to defend when you’ve only got Matic standing still in front of you…
I thought Schneiderlin had a great game against us, is he not a solid option for next year if the worst does happen?

Hey Rory! Thanks for reading.
Everton were brilliant against United, and you’re right to say deserve a lot of credit. It looks like Silva has finally found a really great formula for Everton that I hope they can build on. It will take big money to prise away Richarlison, Digne and Bernard now, which might well put teams off. Couple of spots (RB, CB, and CF) that need strengthening, but I’d be very optimistic for the Toffees next season.
I haven’t seen enough of him, but what happened to Mina this season? Has he performed well? He looked like a potentially world-class defender in the World Cup..

Not just “attack, attack, attack”: Solskjaer’s subtle tweaks against Tottenham
Cheers Kangas!
I think the advantage for Ole is that the expectations were rightly set so low for the remainder of the season. Most people, me included, thought a top-four spot was near impossible so even coming close will be a massive achievement.
In the Champions League, no one really expects United to beat PSG – Ashley Young v Neymar is an interesting match-up to say the least – so anything there is a bonus too.

Martial and Matic need to be dropped ASAP, both have looked completely disinterested for weeks months now. Martial I wouldn’t get rid of just yet, he still has those game changing moments in his locker that, when on form, makes him irreplaceable. He is on thin ice though, and should have his starting spot taken away to prove it.
Definitely agree about the centre-backs. I do like the look of Lindelof though, reminiscent of Vidic easing his way into the team over a year. We just need someone with a strong physical presence to put in there next to him.
