Nice exposition on the middle third of the pitch NB.

Certainly where France got plenty of pay against Oz with Danty, Woki, etc. back in July.

Coach’s Corner Issue 29: Do the All Blacks have a soft centre?

It is a shame, he’s a good player and just a bit unlucky with where the squad is at.

Hooper is back for two seasons and we’d expect him to be heading off-shore after the WC in 2023. If we invest in Gamble to take over he’ll be 27 by the time he’s a regular starter.

Alternatively we can try to lock in Tizzano who’d only be 23. Carlo, if he is managed well and given the opportunity, could be our starting openside for 7 or more seasons.

Not sure Hazel.

He was on a one year extension last year and with Hooper returning and Tizzano offered to stay I guess they didn’t have room for him.

Got to wonder if things are all ok in the capital.

Over the last few seasons they’ve shed a lot of players. Even without counting retirees/guys right at the end of their careers (Cusack, Miller, McCaffrey, Pocock, Leali’ifano, etc.), I’m sure I’m missing a few:

Harry Lloyd
Les Leulua’iali’i-Makin
Angus Wagner
Archer Holz
Shambeckler Vui
Rory Arnold
Sam Carter
Murray Douglas
Blake Enever
Joe Powell
Issak Fines-Leileiwasa
Bayley Kuenzle
Reesjan Pasitoa
Reece Tapine
Tevita Kuridrani
Toni Pulu
Mack Hansen

The fact they are recruiting older guys like Caderyn Neville, Jesse Mogg, Rodney Iona to cover indicates things aren’t right with their production of talent.

I don’t mind that.

Would love a mystery benefactor to buy out Skelton’s contract for us but can certainly live with building the squad from the group we have.

He’ll be back in April.

'We're absolutely committed': RA chief reveals plan to centralise control of Super Rugby clubs

😂 very good Paul. And very true!

Look forward to seeing him play.

Lots of competition with Swinton, Warren-Vosayaco, Harris, Gleeson, Hanigan, Sinclair, Williams and Holloway all able to play 6/8 as well.

You are obsessed with how people ‘look’ George.

Still pretending to be a person of colour?

Think the Tahs need to show a little track record before players will buy in to signing longer term

G’day Greysy.

Have thought, with their history at Gordon and Giltinis, that Mahe Vailanu might be on the cards. Haven’t heard anything, though.

Not sure mate. He was only EPS and not a full contract. With Sinclair and Williams re-signed, Holloway and Hanigan added they’ve got a lot of players that cover his positions.

I liked him but will be surprised if they’ve retained him as well as those blokes.

Very happy with these two being added to the squad.

Tighthead’s = Smith, Tauakipulu, Holz
Loosehead’s = Bell, Brown
Both Sides = Johnson-Holmes, Faulkner

Two older heads, two guys really hitting their straps and three young blokes – looks a good balance to me.

Well done DC and Pauli!

I’m nervous about Perese going. I worry he’s going to be rushed back from injury and thrown into 12 which I don’t think is his position.

Lolesio to miss northern tour after slipping behind Quade, JOC

“Kudos to Rennie for having the Wallabies playing like they’re having fun; although of course they’re closer to home”

They might be closer to home but I saw comment from Hooper that before this break they hadn’t been home in 109 days. I think they are getting something like 10 days at home and then they are off again.

Certainly don’t begrudge the guys that want to stay home. staying home. Very grateful for those that are touring.

The Thursday rugby two-up: One bio-bubble too many for the ‘Boks and Pumas?

Yes, the comment on titles is a straw man, I don’t know why you brought titles up.

I replied very specifically to, “Players move from the NSW set up and seem to improve a lot, but it rarely seems to happen the other way.

You’ve taken this on a wide ranging essay covering a myriad of issues but that is still the core one that triggers me. I mean we are 25 years on and you are the second Roarer raising Finegan as a reject this week.

He was a player they developed that left the very year he would have taken over a starting position.

Cookie and Waxy have both posted this week on the theme of no young player should sign at the Tahs as it will stunt their development.

I have a laugh when the guest accounts post rubbish but tend to bite when regular Roarers make these comments – it’s exhausting.

I guess I just have to learn to laugh a posters I otherwise respect.

Not sure how much play he’ll get next year TJ.

Think he’s one they’ve got in for the future.

Scroll down the thread and you’ll see me talking up Tauakipulu. Or just the other day my excitement about Pietsch.

You really have to try harder, you petty little crybaby. 15 months you’ve been projecting your own bias on to me.

Cheers BD – hadn’t heard that. Good to hear, although I will say that is an almighty big call on 2023/2024!

I quite like Tiaan Tauakipulu, who is also on the Tahs roster. Didn’t make it on the pitch last year due to injury but he impressed me in his limited minutes in 2020.

Nah look you are right, Tahs can’t develop talent. That’s why Hooper has become a multiple JE winner since moving.

In fact, one wonders why the likes of Finegan, Latham etc. felt the need to move with no-name NSW failed to develop players like Ofahengaue, Gavin and Burke in front of them.

And just one title? Reds are equally poor then? Brumbies twice as good because they have two?

Plenty of issues at the Tahs but this tired trope of they can’t develop players is so mind numbingly boring.

I really hope the likes of Lloyd, Wagner, Pasitoa, Kuenzle and Fines-Leileiwasa kick on so we can rehash an equally invalid Brumbies can’t develop talent argument.

Beefa is going to send the Kangaroos instead.

How the Wallabies are building cohesion towards 2023

Michael Hooper and Tom Staniforth both players that improved after moving from Brumbies to Tahs if you are looking for a couple of recent examples.

I think the majority of players that leave and get better are just guys that have been in the system quite young and then later mature. Simone/Kellaway/Coleman, there are very few guys like Skelton that become almost a different player from entering a different environment.

I think Whetton was playing injured most of the year – he wasn’t moving well. Looked like maybe a groin injury.

Caird isn’t confirmed as staying but haven’t heard he’s been released either – he should have one year to go on his contract so not sure what’s happening.

Whetton still showing on the squad page but described as a former Waratah in the article alledging he hit an offduty cop’s car while DUI

Special mention to Hooper for getting Kellaway free after the cross-kick. He’s not always managed to get the support runner free in that type of situation.
