No he wants the cash and to save his body. No complaint from me.

CONFIRMED: NRL superstar joins ex-All Blacks coaching greats in Japan - could he do an SBW?

Well James I jave just returned from a rather long holiday in the Land of the Long White cloud.
I think you make 2 mistake
1 Comparing a team like the ABs to the Wahs . The Wahs are a club League side with massive support in NZ. Equal to the All Blacks ? No way , but I reckon the most popular club team of any sport in NZ. League
is way smaller than Union, no doubt at all. But it’s still has sizeable support.
2 The statement I was responding to was the guy who said ‘ league is a sport only recognised in QLD and NSW.’ That’s patently untrue. It’s recognised in EVERY part of NZ.

Yeah, I’m absolutely mystified that he consistently gets rated so highly. He ranks about 12th on my list of current FBs.
Look I concede that in the modern era we can’t have a team completely made up of NQ locals BUT if you have guys who are local and capable you have to try to keep them and give them preference over bloody NSW ers. If not sure recruit. I’m forever grateful for Lachlan Coote and Eddie Munster. They both filled big gaps in our roster at that time but if we had capable NRL level players in NQ they go first.
One of the foundational goals of the club was to give local juniors a pathway into professional sport . We are losing that focus and Payten seems to play lip service to that admirable goal.

Wild idea but Blues should actually pick Origin team on form this time around - and that means Tedesco’s time is up

Hey Phil,
I think you might want to add NZ and PNG.

Don’t mind me Sports tragic, I’m bitter and twisted that we lost the Hammer . A local junior who IS Origin standard.
Drinkwater is not the worst player in the Cows team or the worst FB we have ever had .
But he is as much an Origin player as David Williams.

Well of course it’s money. It’s sure as hell not playing Rugby.

Your eyes do not lie Don. He has been very, very ordinary.

Can’t catch, can’t tackle plus he is a fair weather attacker. When the pressure goes on he goes missing , plus he is from the Central Coast of NSW .
I’m sure there are other pluses as well but that will do.
Please NSW he is your FB .

What an incredible ask it is of coaches to front the media after a footy game. Less than 10 minutes of incredibly complex questioning ( what did you make of that Wayne ? Where did that go wrong Robbo? Turbo was great wasn’t he Siebs?)
All they have to remember is to not call the Ref a cheat.
As I said, it’s such a complex task that we really shouldn’t be asking these highly paid executives to attend and if we do a voucher to a wellness retreat is the least we can do to show appreciation.

Give coaches a choice: NRL post-match press conferences are mandatory, but only to say what the bosses want you to say

Ah , here is the rub . It would have been 6 again BUT Canberra came up with the ball , so it’s six again , play breaks down, no advantage , Titans penalty.
It cost them the game.

'F--- you': Insults fly after Des confronts Ricky as Annesley admits yet another blunder robbed Titans of victory

I’m glad someone remembers.

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

Well Edwards is that kinda footballer and three premiership wins says its not a bad model to employ.
Can you seriously put Drinkwater in front of Manu. Drinkwater ?????

Five and a kick: Joey Manu is not the Roosters' best fullback, unless they want to run him into the ground

I’m not sure the Cowboys need X factor . We do need T factor though. Tackling is a part of the game we seem to think is optional.
Whatever our new system of defence is called its not working . We just keep conceding soft try after soft try. We are unlikely to make the 8 till we change it.

NRL Power Rankings: Round 6 - Dragons, Raiders prove doubters wrong, Souths players still putting in for Demetriou

They were lucky to win . Doggies will get them next time.

Bulldogs grab moral victory, but Melbourne take the two points as Storm overcome Foxx hat trick in comeback win

Bennett has done absolutely everything possible in the game of RL . If he gets the Phins into the 8 it will just put the cherry on top of his giant cake of RL success.
Some of the best footy I have ever seen played by a team anywhere was his ‘ contract footy ‘era at South’s in Brisbane . It was a thing of real beauty.
Now Bennett hasn’t always coached beautiful RL but he has always coached winning footy. South’s would love to have him back.

Wayne Bennett is back on top ahead of Brisbane battle - and he'll be happy to let the Souths chatter continue

When did Mundine ever rightfully ????complain about being left out the NSW Origin side.?
He was never a team player. It was only ever about him.
Blacklock may have had a case.

Why his latest ban could be best thing for Latrell’s career - or the beginning of the end

Enjoyed that Mike. I had already watched that Drinkwater try a few times. It’s a difficult set-up to defend.
I have noticed a few teams going quite often to the ‘ hidden’ full back over the lead runner or out the back ( Manly love. it) . Its tough defending on those edges these days.

Motion sickness: How the NRL's best are crafting confusion and sending defences sideways

Fair point . Truthfully I have no idea but you would have to say it hasn’t hurt.

The Vegas Hangover: All four travelling teams mired in a malaise since returning from arduous US trip

Paul assures me it’s hoc ex eo sequitur, but I reckon he could be Sillius Soddus.

The Vegas Hangover: All four travelling teams mired in a malaise since returning from arduous US trip

I agree with most of that . I had them 8th. But surely Wighton was their big signing.

The Vegas Hangover: All four travelling teams mired in a malaise since returning from arduous US trip

But the ‘ tough’ draw seems to have helped Penrith. Four GFs in a row and three wins plus a love chance in 24 .
Other teams should be saying ‘ hey our draw is not tough enough’.

The Vegas Hangover: All four travelling teams mired in a malaise since returning from arduous US trip

And he’s a strong runner of the ball. Look young and onlybreally judge him after half a dozen games so I really hope Flanagan sticks with him.

NRL Round 6 Team Lists: Cleary suffers setback, Walsh return confirmed but Riki under cloud, Big Phin out

You have nailed it Astro. Heaven forbid that’s my team.

'They are vital': How NRL's old guard are ushering in a new generation - and winning the argument for expansion

That’s the ( multi ) million dollars question isn’t it . I’m lucky , I love the game and I can watch Q Cup , Darwin or Gold Coast club league , or even the under 16s.
I find all of it great . But most people are not me.
There is a quality level below which most non Die-hards will switch off. People may find it hard to describe a low quality product but they know it when they see it.
I was talking to my new neighbour the other day. He is an AFL guy from Melbourne who watches a bit of League.
He said league is definitely a better game than it ever was , with the new rules making it flow. He said he watches more league than he ever has. Now he’s a Friday night Broncs and Storm watcher. It’s the quality that’s grabbed him.

Sometime i think coaches are so sloooooooow to see the bleedin obvious.
I have seen Lomax play 2 games at FB and he was superb in both. He was theobvious choice for Dragons FB this year.
He can play a CNK , Rapana, Edwards ( well not quite) type role as a FB.
Highlight reels dont impress me much. Drinkwater amd Sloane can’t tackle, and Trell looks like he’s playing with his mates at the beach but boy do they have some highlights. Means nothing.
Give Lomax half a dozen games and then decide. I reckon he will pass.
