Footy is a broad church with room for all

It was humid & slippery, full house and high pressure. A good tussle. Radars still a bit off but calibrating to burst into life very soon.

Footy Fix: The worst grand final rematch ever just proves the Pies have slightly fewer problems than Brisbane

Even Jesus couldnt forgive that tripe review, up there with BT, Brayshaw, Carro and the footy show clowns. Both teams had a crack and will feature at the pointy end, especially the lions. Could Lachie Neale, McCluggage do any more. Ditto Elliott, McCreey and a few others, many lifted. Like many pies fans I could give a tinkers cuss about winning this year and want to see the kids blooded. Reef McInnes played well again and I thought it was rough to sub Macrae. But in Fly we Trust. Go Pies.

Bloods gave us a lesson last night. Too good all game. Pies definitely lack intensity and gave up several goals through lazy disposal.Feels like 1991 revisited which is what Leigh Matthews is probably referring to when he says they will waste the year if they don’t get back to work.

Who makes the top eight in 2024 - and why the Pies are still the team to beat

Bring on the swannies, they can enjoy the unfurling of our flag. As for exposed weaknesses by GWS, a tad more pressure with a bit of accuracy and the game tightens up, then lets see who chokes. Giants very good on the cow paddock so credit where it’s due.

Think you’re right about the Dees, feels like something bad’s gonna blow up, again.

Who makes the top eight in 2024 - and why the Pies are still the team to beat

Top 4 for mine are Pies, Lions, Giants and I hate to say it but Carlton look very strong, Walsh & Weitering to slot into the starting 18 & showing the type of firepower the Dee’s had when they won it.

Crows very unlucky last few years and could surprise.

Interesting take Les.
Early years of Eddie were good for us. He case managed the transition of Tony Shaw out for Mick. He actively brought back former club greats to unite the club, including Peter Moore & Phil Carmen. That healing has served us well. As for the wooden spoon, the final games of Tony Shaw ensured we won the Josh Fraser Cup.
Mick was great to build us back up for 2002/03. But compare the Lions team of 03 to our boys. There were blokes there I had to think long and hard to remember versus an all time great team. It is a testament to coaching that Mick got us there and we came so close in 02. Much like Tommy Hafey who coached good ordinary teams into the last game.
Mick rebuilt us for 2010 and we came up against tough teams.
In 2011 we ran out of puff, carried some injuries and Tommahawk came of age. Close but not good enough. Cats too good.
The succession. I recall Mick missing games in 09 and health was an issue. In 2010 he was invigorated and my mail was Buckley was integral. In 2011, Micks mood changed as the footy media went hard slamming the succession plan. I heard that Mick basically benched Bucks into menial tasks in open resistance to the plan.
A good idea, no it wasn’t. It was Tony Shaw on repeat. A club great coaching teammates did not work.
Bucks was offered the coaching job at North by Brayshaw and just as Carlton did similar to Tony Shaw as an assistant, our obsession led to offering the senior job to our former captains. The Lions and Voss would regret similarly and just as Vossy has found his groove I reckon Buckley will be outstanding if he tries it again. I hope not because I doubt he would coach us again, Port would suit him.
Eddie and hubris. Similar to Big Jack at Carlton and Ask Jeff at hawks, great successes had to come to an end. Eddie just stayed too long and made some very bad comments that did not help us. I am still grateful for his leadership in the first 10 years. Should have gone after the Adam Goodes debacle, just hurtful and embarrassing all round.
Did the succession help us get McCrae? You bet it did as we went outside of our bubble, modelled it on Hawthorn and Richmond, got another club great back in Graham Wright, Jeff Browne stepped in take control and got Craig Kelly back also. No way was this leadership going to make the same mistakes and despite it all, pies still came close under Bucks for the most part, including 2018.
The Treloar and Stevo trades did not hurt us. Neither has Grundy. I was beside myself at the time but it looks like Bucks took one almighty hit for the cause and his celebration this year is delightful.
Sacking Tom Hafey in 1982 was the worst for me. Club sank into the abyss.
Overall, they all bled for Collingwood with best of intentions.

'The level of delusion is something else': Eddie McGuire's defence of his disastrous coaching succession plan is ridiculous

Agree Kevo, take a look at our 03 team vs the Lions All Stars. I’m baffled how we even made it.
This is a much stronger and experienced Pies line up that plays team footy. Cloke in 02 was a massive out and so was Rocca in 03. We will miss McStay & Adams but Frampton is a very good replacement and I’m sticking with Lipinski. The only change I think about is Noble for Ginnivan and that’s consistency with Johnny over spark from Jack.

The incredible streak Collingwood must break to claim a Grand Final win

Frampton, Ginnivan... or a smoky? Every Dan McStay replacement for Collingwood's grand final team, ranked

Pies have more gears. We win this one.

The incredible streak Collingwood must break to claim a Grand Final win

Only thing might be to sub Noble for Ginnivan. More versatile.

I’m imagining other state governments being prepared to build a stadium that can hold 100,000+, perhaps then we can talk?

Grand final ticketing fiasco doesn't make top-tier Pies fans whingeing about low-quality seats okay

As a former Legends member it is wrong the Club did not prioritise allocation in order of tier. This is what Brisbane has done and they are clearly smarter on this. It’s a ballot across the categories and that is not what is marketed. I appreciate accusations of elitism but I assure you the Legends members by and large are not privileged, they prioritise the footy as the thing they spend their hard earned on. I would also think it’s more fair that the members of the competing clubs get first crack at half the ground, 50,000 seats at 25 each. At the moment it’s 17 each for 34,000. With 106,000 Collingwood members there is no way they all get in but I wonder how many are full time memberships? They flog a lot memberships for one game, three games etc and that doesn’t seem fair either when allocating finals tickets.

Gave them one hell of a fright in the first. Ran out of legs and still only 16 points. It’s all about pressure and whether there is enough in the tank to run it out further than the opposition. A lot to like I would think.

Finals Fix: One quarter from hell couldn't keep the Lions out of the big dance - but another might just cost them the flag

I like Frampton in the side. I wouldn’t risk Adams. I’m sticking with Lipinski over Macrae. I think we have more gears than them and reckon McRae coached them v Dees and giants to control the game when in front when it counted. He floods backline when kicking to city end and scores more freely to Richmond end, why is that? Agree our backline is one of the best in league but Lions probably have the edge up forward and maybe in middle, maybe. But we have DeGoey, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, the Daicos boys, the run and carry of Crisp, Markov, Quaynor, the marking of Moore and Howe, the grit of Maynard and Murphy, the guts of Mihocek and class of Elliott, the speed and dazzle of Bobby, the strong and steady hand of Cameron, the X factor of Cox and positive leadership of Moore. Who have I missed? There’s a lot to going for Brisbane and they are an imposing team, but it’s not the star studded lineup of 2002/3 that the AFL created and beat our good ordinary team of the time. Heat on a warm day could help them but the beers and cheers will be flowing. It’s Grand Final week and sans actually winning it’s our 45th tilt, not bad going. Floreat Pica and Kill for Collingwood.

Sorry, read the Herald Hun and it was Lloyd. But they posted the photo.

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness

McRae so confident he rested Jordy for nine minutes at the death. ????

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness

Tend to agree and Callan Ward is tough and fair. But when you look at what frees get paid as dangerous over last few years then I reckon that one last night where he flipped him is more dangerous, and it’s probably not a clear rule.

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness

And Cox tackled at ball up in goal square in first. Not paid.
I could go on and on as I just watched the whole game, again.
Yes, three missed for Giants in the last, including Toby Green high and a trip. Did it make a difference? I counted more not paid our way over the whole game, including in the last qtr. Mihocek has his arms chopped at almost every contest. And what about two years of open season on Ginnivan so cry me a river you haters. Go Pies

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness

What about Wards wrestling flip and dump of Mihocek at end of first, could have broken his back. Clearly dangerous tackle 39 metres in front.

Finals Fix: The Pies were down and out in the prelim. How they turned it around is the stuff of greatness

Geez I hope not????

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

Who gives a flying rats about that? The footy is still on mate.

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

Is Owies the sub? He is a cocky, nasty little f#%^ and just the type of old school Carlton hard nut who wins finals. Surprised he is out.

Why every team will win their AFL preliminary final... and why they'll lose

Bit like pies last year where just winning became a most delightful habit. Agree if it’s Pies v Baggers then Epic does not begin to describe what next week is gonna be like. Just hope Lions & Blues belt the living daylights out of each other.
