Managed to watch every ball of 2005 Ashes due to a fortuitously timed back operation, made up for a lot of hurt.

Mmmh, but if there wasn’t time lost to rain then the team finishing the stronger would likely win, yes?!
Aussies should be disappointed with underwhelming Ashes
My point was your second one. Australia reintroduced two world class players back into their team…and Bancroft.
I wasn’t trying to be a wise arse by querying whether England were favourites, I actually didn’t know that they were with the bookies, I just fancied Australia for the series.
Anyhoo, it’s all done and dusted for another couple of years, time to focus on the RWC, where I don’t have Australia as favourites. 😁

Not hindsight, I predicted on here that Australia would win, got that wrong though.
1. Objectively, no there weren’t.
In Australia’s top 8 for the first Test, there was Warner, Khawaja, Smith and Cummins who were involved in the WC.
In England’s top 8 there was Roy, Root, Denly, Stokes, Buttler, Bairstow and Ali.
2. Cummins, Hazlewood, Pattinson and Starc are all top quality, Siddle has been bowling fantastically in England for the last 2 county seasons and Neser was apparently the best bowler in the Shield with the Dukes ball.
Broad had been absolute rubbish for the last couple of years and was likely to be dropped going into the series, Moeen has been horribly out of form and lacking confidence for a while too.
3. Fair enough, but I saw Smith in the WC and he got better and better and by the time Australia were knocked out he looked like Smith again.
It’s been 18 years btw not 22.
Whilst the 4-1 result sounds dominant, it wasn’t.

Well England were going for the win in that test, Australia were batting out for a draw and we lost loads of sessions to the rain. Kind of like that. 😊

Oh look here comes the big man with a made up name to offer his pearls. 😂
England have no moral high ground over ball tampering
Haha, the saffa Buttler? That should be a surprise to Jos I’m sure. 😂
Jak, the sand pit’s calling.
England set to slide down Test rankings
Well tbf, if I was an Aussie i’d be delighted to have retained the Ashes but I understand the disappointment of drawing a series that you were leading.
From an English perspective i’d take a drawn series in Australia next time and be pretty happy with it given the shellackings that we’ve taken recently over here.

Err you didn’t beat them, you drew with them. How is this hard to understand?
Fairly sure that Stokes didn’t feel that it was gifted to him, he earnt that win.

See my post above James.
Regarding re-integrating the 3 players James, that’s just bunkum imo. Smith and Warner were always going to step straight back in and Langer obviously wanted to rehabilitate Bancroft too. Warner and Bancroft’s terrible series were more than mitigated by Smith’s Roy of the Rovers stuff.

Fair points, although the WC certainly didn’t help England when it came to the Ashes, too many players without any red ball cricket for ages and in ultra aggressive one day mode.
My point really is if you looked at the Aussie bowling line up plus Smith before the series you’d say that they made Australia favourites, in my mind anyway (and that wasn’t being wise after the event).
England losing Anderson obviously had a major impact, although Broad and Archer stepped up.
Australia’s bowling though was just relentless and that was without Lyon being anywhere near his best.
Aussies should be disappointed with underwhelming Ashes
Umpires have been making mistakes since the game has been played, frankly only the biggest sooks and toddlers would go on about it.
Aussies should be disappointed with underwhelming Ashes
Err no Don I don’t but neither is being 2-1 up with 1 to play a series win as evidenced by the 2-2 all final score line. Not hard to understand Don, even for you.
Not sure that I can take the credit for the Brexit vote either.
I’d give it a rest today if I was you mate, the meds obviously aren’t working.
Aussies should be disappointed with underwhelming Ashes
Were England favourites? They shouldn’t have been.
Aussies should be disappointed with underwhelming Ashes
I distinctly remember Stokes hitting the winning runs at Headingley as I distinctly remember Australia being saved by the weather at Lord’s.
So I raise your 3-0 and give you 2-2 going to The Oval and we all know what happened there.
It’s fun playing woulda shoulda coulda.
Aussies should be disappointed with underwhelming Ashes
Err no, the series hadn’t been secured by then, evidenced by the fact that it ended 2-2.

The Rugby Forum is pretty good value Highlander, it’s not exclusively a UK thing. It’s pretty respectful but there’s a good level of banter and insight.

That’ll explain why we didn’t make it out of the group then. It’s always preferable to pick a whole team I think. 😛

Well if you say so, it just seems like a weird obsession for lots of people from down here. Plenty of confirmation bias methinks.

What’s with the obsession about the UK media? It’s just plain weird.

Everything’s falling into place nicely: losing 3 of their 4 warm ups, dropping from 1 to 5 in the rankings and having their attack coach ejected from the tournament. #inthebag 😂
