It wasn't supposed to be this way. Steve Smith's absence was enough for England's victory at Headingley to be a fait accompli. However, we…

Thanks, Dave, for your comments. Picked on McCabe only for brevity. So many great players to list. With regards to your comment on Wade, if that trend continues (one century in four innings) then any batter would happily take it. I’m sure you’d agree that he needs more runs to cement his place?

Thanks for the comments, Paul. I should have elaborated on the ‘pace’ point. I think that the English bowlers will bowl shorter lengths. Archer will get through a lot of overs, again, at Headingley. And the short stuff will be prevalent. Archer has, undoubtedly, put indecision into the minds of the Australian batters. Doesn’t always transcend across all bowlers. Woakes and Broad are far better bowling fuller lengths.

Forget the Tour of Britain. Isn’t really long enough to be considered a tour. The Vuelta is the race to immerse yourself into!
How to survive the post-Tour blues
Could be yet another time that KP flatters to deceive. Undeniably a talented batsman but severe questions must be asked as to whether his time has passed.
Pietersen to star down under in BBL
Still time for Cook to go. Has lost the edge as a captain as well as lost most of the media. Will take a momentous effort to stay in the position long term. India were woeful rather than a well led England.
Shock: Cook scores runs as England win a Test
Certainly think that would be a decent conversion ratio as long as they aren’t accompanied with eight single digit scores.
