Finally, an article about the PGA Championship that isn’t talking about Phil not playing. The reality that this article isn’t about the contenders, the layout or the spectacle we could possibly see, is evidence to me that there is very little about the US tour that is worth watching. The year’s 2nd major and beer price is most alluring content for a media article. One other article I can find is about the glamour group of Tiger, Rory and Jordan Spieth. A bloke on 1 leg, who faded badly in his last start, after the first 2 rounds took too much out of him. Another bloke who hasn’t won major since 2014 and carries the biggest monkey in world golf on his back. The third hasn’t won a major since 2015 and currently ranks 175th on the tour’s putting stats. Names and names alone. The only thing the US events, The Master excepted, ever have. They have allowed the game to be out of control with too much focus on length and not enough respect for actual good driving. Was watching the YouTube video of the final round of the 1967 US Open and the commentary included an explanation of the number and role of the dimples on a golf ball followed by praise for the golf authorities for limiting ball speed, to protect the integrity and challenges of the great golf courses. How times have changed …

You think footy beer prices are expensive? It's got nothing on a frothy at the golf

The glossing over ‘we all make mistakes’ line was poorly chosen when asked a question by the journalist. Perhaps more preparation for how to answer such a question should have taken place. However, for all those taking yet another opportunity to conduct Norman for his connection with Saudi funding just be aware…
Formula 1, English football and boxing already have willingly accepted funding from the same Saudi PIF.
The European Tour for several years was happy to have thw Saudi Invitational sanctioned as an event on its tour. The PGA released players to take part in this event year after year, including 2022 when it is no longer on the newly named, DP World Tour. The Asian tour now includes this event and another 10 Saudi funded tournaments in its schedule. The Ladies European Tour has 10 Saudi funded events, without significantly larger prize money, as the backbone of its tour. Very little complaint heard about any of this. Yet Norman has supposedly sold his soul to the devil when he uses the same funds to grow the game beyond the 40 year long monopoly of the US PGA Tour. The PGA tour have gleefully used their rich coffers to draw the best players in the world to their tour and robbed much of world from seeing these players. Only 3 releases per season for a player to play elsewhere if it clashes with a US tour event. Norman was passionate about growing the game globally in the mid 90’s when he had been the best player in the world and the US tour’s greatest drawcard for 331 weeks over a 15 year career. He still is and having always had the vision, he now has access to the funding to make it happen. One thing i hate more than ‘sportswashing’ is the absolute hypocrisy attached to so much of the outrage on display about this new tour. Either no Saudi funding is ok or it all is…

'We've all made mistakes': Greg Norman actually said THAT when asked about murder of Saudi dissident

Nick will have to look for new material. Nobody goes to the circus to see the same clown do the same things for very long.

'He was horrendous' Nick Kyrgios still seething at umpire as he faces another fine

Yet we gave them a chance of doing the impossible by batting again. Until Babar’s wicket, that possibility was becoming increasingly likely. Something that was never possible had we enforced the follow on. Cummins expected the pitch to deteriorate. It didn’t. Pakistan batted very well which they may not have done if they had been sent back in. However, we got an early breakthrough after batting again, and picked up a 2nd wicket without many on the board. We still had momentum but weren’t able to win the game. Not uncommon in recent years.

Australia still fears enforcing the follow-on if Karachi is anything to go by

Cricketing hierarchy? I don’t think so. Some cricket journalists and fans perhaps but Australia’s cricket hierarchy have got exactly what they want. It will take series losses to change anything there.

Aussies under the microscope to deliver in Lahore

Any benefit the experience of Finch could provide to younger players, in red ball cricket is countered by his career-long struggle with his footwork and front leg movement. They will learn more poor habits than good.

'I don't see the point': Finch makes a call on first-class career

Very true, but it’s Finch, not Ponting and it’s 4 day cricket not 20/20 hit’n’giggle. Finch spent a decade of shield cricket to average 27 before realising, on a pitch with a little movement, he needed the protection the middle order brings. Finch retiring from shield cricket isn’t news. It does sound better than not being selected though.

'I don't see the point': Finch makes a call on first-class career

I don’t rely on him either, but apart from Khawaja, nobody averaged more against England, so no, not everybody dined out on the Engliah bowlers. In fact, for all that dining out you speak of, only two Aussies averaged 42 or better. I do dislike Head but can’t agree he should be dropped yet. That time will come when his performances justify it.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

Another way to view those numbers would be to suggest that the experienced player getting set and not going on to make a big score, simply isn’t good enough. For example, some might see his 25 as throwing a start away. Either way, he was given en a chance and, like several others, didn’t do enough with it.

'I don't see the point': Finch makes a call on first-class career

First, we need to determine what type of horse Mitch Marsh is… Sired by a steady and consistent performer but rarely has made a successful run when it mattered. Recently has moved to shorter distances with some success. Very few backers when spoken about for longer tracks. In fact, some wanted a stewards enquiry into him getting a spot in the stable.

Love the possible trophy design for the Lillee-Miandad series…

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

What is Head’s test average? 42.17 tick
What did he average in the Ashes? 59.5 tick….
Do you really think a single innings is a fair length of time to drop the highest run scorer of the most recent series?
I get it. Head’s approach doesn’t scream test success to me either, but I think a single failure overseas is a bit harsh.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

Couldn’t agree more but the ridiculous hype surrounding him, makes him virtually undroppable for our meathead selectors. He doesn’t even pose threats to domestic sides.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

That’s your view and you’re welcome to it. For all his years of FC cricket, there was rarely anything to suggest he was a test level player. His time in test cricket simply confirmed what most already knew.

'I don't see the point': Finch makes a call on first-class career

Not even at night in a dark alley….

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

Either Marsh is bowling spin now or the writer thinks he should replace Head for being the only batsmen not to get going on this pitch.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

Swepson’s stats, in particular, over the last 2 seasons, suggest he is significantly better than Agar. So, yeah, just give him a go. He has to be more effective than bowling Head after 16 overs of day 1…

Note to Coach McDonald-
When Head bowls as many overs as Josh and Pat in an innings, consider the team selection a slight error for the pitch provided.
Add this to the previous note to Coach McDonald which read-
When Heads is given a bowl after 16 overs on the first morning, consider the team selection just a smidge flawed.

Well, as effective as the Pakistan top order have been at nullifying our bowling attack, the curator is still well ahead of them. If only the light hadn’t deteriorated. If only it hadn’t rained. If only the test lasted for 4 more days…

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

Boland for me, if we have to drop one of those two. In fact, we possibly need to give them both of them the flick. Not sure if Pat, as captain, is up to making that call. Cummins, Boland, Green, Lyon and Swepson. We should be happy to get a draw in this test given our poor reading of the pitch prior to the coin toss.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

Yes we do, but neither Swepson or Agar scream pick me from their FC figures. Swepson has at least had some decent FC success in the most recent 18 months. He has to play.
Not sure what we gain by picking Marsh, unless he thinks Marsh offers more with the bat than Head.

'Maybe Mitch Marsh', 'Swepson deserves chance': Calls for bowling revamp after stalemate

If only he could have played more matches on the dry pitches in the UAE. He was always going to struggle on pitches with a little life. His FC career has always been underwhelming and he played test cricket purely for his experience at a time when our side was significantly short of it. He had a chance to prove his doubters wrong. He didn’t. Retiring, unavailable or not selected, the result is the same. No red ball cricket for Finch, so the future is the same as the past 2 and a bit years, it seems.

'I don't see the point': Finch makes a call on first-class career

It sure has given us perspective.in the last 35 days we have lost 3 larger than life characters, all having delivered unforgettable performances at the MCG. This past weekend we said farewell to Rod Marsh and Shane Warne. Late January we heard that Meatloaf had passed away. Rod and Shane’s passing came as some surprise, but no so with the theatrical singer. Anyone at the AFL Grand Final that day in 2011, knew he was dying. It just took along time for his body to realise it…

Losing Marsh and Warne gives us new perspective

Agreed. Hence the astute captain comment.

Has anyone checked on Glenn McGrath? I mean Warnie was fine before Chappelli dragged his name into his Langer-Legend or less discussion. I am concerned for Ooh Aah now.
