I recall seeing comment from the Easts and Gordon presidents on ESPN promoting the so called national club comp.

I wonder if it even voted on.

Woody, I wonder if anybody from the RA ever bothered to ask Twiggy or one of his companies to sponsor the NRC, before they canned it? He seemed to love the NRC.

Jez, Ok I must have missed the NSW support. All I ever saw was negative stuff from Shute presidents and others about NRC and ARC. I dont recall any of them standing up and saying NRC would be good for Australian Super rugby teams and the Wallabies.
They were promoting Shute Shield and some kind of “National” Club Competition with the Brisbane clubs.
The Wrap: New Zealand sides ruthlessly hunt Super Rugby bonus points
NZ have the semi-professional NPC with 14 teams and 12 teams in the amateur/regional competition which sit above amateur club rugby. So they can develop and test players before exposing them to Super rugby.
But yet Australia have twice killed the semi-professional NRC because the wise men in NSW did not want it to distract from the amateur Shute club competition.
Over here in the west, RugbyWA have just announced a Force game against the Bay of Plenty after Super rugby is finished. Great time to play some of the Force squad who did not get much of a run during Super. I hope they expand this idea and play 3-4 games against NZ NPC teams each year,

Jez. those qualifications would be perfect if you went to Shore School, Syd Uni and live in Mosman.
It's official: Waratahs chairman Roger Davis heads for the exit
Yep, and Twiggy had partly funded Fiji and Samoa and had them playing in his GRR.
If Covid had not stopped international travel in 2020 and 2021, then GRR would be growing stronger right now and there would be no Force, Fiji or Samoa teams in Super.
The two lingering questions from an incredible weekend of Super Rugby finals
Jez, Maybe we can change the words in that headline around a bit to something like
” NSW rugby deserves to benefit from Roger Davis being cut”
It is time for the Waratahs' Roger Davis to go
Hi Ex,
I dont much about this Davis, but the one infamous quote from him that I remember well was that NSW deserved to benefit from the axing of the Force or the Rebels. That article appeared in SMH on the 12/4/2017 about 6 months before the Force were axed. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/nsw-rugby-deserves-to-benefit-from-super-rugby-team-being-cut-roger-davis-20170412-gvjlnd.html

Geoff, Like the due process the ARU under Clyne and Pulver went through, before selling the Rebels to Cox and then buying them back from him?
Lets hope the RA under McClennan and Marinos are better judges of character and do their homework.
The Wrap: Is there such a thing as a quiet week in rugby?
Ex, I fear you might be right.
The heavies from NSW have dragged rugby in Australia to the edge of the cliff trying to maintain their control of rugby in Australia.
Knocked back $70 million from Twiggy before and then blocked him from setting up a GRR team in Western Sydney. I suspect they might prefer to do business with some faceless bean counters from New York instead of an Australian who love rugby and has said he wants to see the Wallabies holding up the Bled and WC cups again.
Hopefully Hamish and his board make some sensible decisions.

Woodart, I will happily be gracious in defeat.
Sure, it it is very likely that one of the Kiwi teams will win the TT, but I dont think the gap between NZ and Aus sides is as big as some people claim.
The problem with Super Rugby Trans-Tasman
I am hoping there will be some humble pie eating for some Kiwis on Roar, if their fantastic teams dont all flog the supposedly weaker Aussie teams.
Just looking back at the 2020 results of our now 2 weakest 2021 teams, (these results are just over 12 months ago, before the old Super comp was suspended), the Rebels beat the Highlanders 28/2/20 in NZ. The mighty Crusaders only managed to flog the lowly Tahs by only 18 points in fortress Christchurch on 1/2/20.
The problem with Super Rugby Trans-Tasman
Cheika, Twiggy tried to start a GRR side in Western Sydney 2-3 years ago, but NSW heavies blocked it,
Force rise from ashes stronger than ever
“Backed by Forrest’s seemingly endless pockets, the Force embarked on an impressive recruiting campaign”
This statement could be a bit misleading. The Force CEO Tony Lewis has twice clarified in the past 2 weeks, that the Force still have to abide by the same total salary cap rules that the other 4 sides do. However the other four are all miles ahead of the Force in the total of total dollars handed out in Wallaby top ups from the RA.
So the Force squad is is getting paid less in total than any other Australian team. This indeed points to impressive recruiting by the Force.
Force rise from ashes stronger than ever
The Force are not to blame for the Tahs fall. The Force got Tom Robertson from the Tahs, but the Tahs got Tizzano from the Force.
NSW rugby administrators needs to look in the mirror when they are searching for answers.
The Tahs have a young squad and if they stop looking for instant fixes, their team will bounce back in 2-3 years like the Reds have done.
Wise old heads prevail as the Force awakens
As a Force fan, I remember some of the comments made in 2017 by NSW Chairman Roger Davis when the ARU decided to axe the Force. Something like admitting he was “unashamedly greedy” for the extra money NSW would get as a result. How the wheel has turned!
Winless Waratahs keeping heads high
Yes, hang in there Jeznez. Perhaps the Tahs will mature in 2022 or 2023. The Reds did it tough 2-3 years ago.
Winless Waratahs keeping heads high
WA seem to be churning out some good young number 7s these days. Tizzano, Hardwick and Koteka.
Must be the legacy of Hodgo and Pocock in past days.
Winless Waratahs keeping heads high
There are strong active rugby clubs with passionate fans that are not in Brissy or Sydney. This game today is billed as the “Australian” Club Championship.
Why club rugby is about to bloom
Tizzano certainly looked like the Tahs best player against the Brumbies and also the Reds. Glad to see them giving him some game time this year.
Force aim to sow seeds of doubt in struggling Waratahs
He is also an avid Wallaby fan.
Is it time to reconsider dumping the National Rugby Championship?
ML, I share your concern about some of these Private Equity deals where a faceless USA, Chinese or International consortium buy into sports purely as a business investment and have no other interest in the sport. Manchester United fans can tell us about how that ends up.
Andrew Forrest is I think an entirely different proposition. He is an Australian rugby fan and is definitely not faceless. I saw the other day he set the new Force CEO he just employed a goal of making the Force break even in the next 3 years. So he would have carried the Force financially for 7 years, hardly a great investment. That excludes the millions he has and is still pouring into junior, school and club rugby in WA. I am sure the owners of MAN U are not pumping money into soccer development in the Manchester community.
Is it time to reconsider dumping the National Rugby Championship?
Hi Brett,
You say “”Even if they wanted to revive the NRC, it’s very obviously not going to happen without a sudden and significant upsurge in funding from a source that currently doesn’t exist.””
The richest man in Australia is mad keen on rugby and loved the NRC. Andrew Forrest was quoted extensively in the Australian newspaper only 2 weeks ago saying he “believes the eastern states of Queensland and NSW have too much influence on major rugby decisions”
https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/rugby-union/blow-up-rugbys-rotten-governance-says-andrew-forrest/news-story/f9fc23d73866e1f98f56cca984f62709
Twiggy has said several times, he is willing to help Australian rugby out, but wont do so until things change. So in the mean while he is just putting money into rugby in WA.
Is it time to reconsider dumping the National Rugby Championship?
Hi Jez, I think we are on the same side of the fence about the benefit of the NRC. My comment about the wise men from NSW has obviously riled you. I apologize. I know everybody from NSW do not sing from the same song sheet. Perhaps with Roger Davis and the Syd Uni Friends hopefully losing influence on the RA, we might see some real wise men appear.
