It is definitely encouraging to see – I have been very encouraged by Philip Hughes performances this year, a double century and an important recent first innings century to be averaging 61 is a good return on the first four or so games. I think if he continues to score runs, especially against spin attacks like Victoria he will work his way back into contention.

Young batsmen shining on fairer Sheffield Shield pitches

Ronan – thoughts on Michael Klinger? He has been consistently good for the last 5 seasons (apart from last years abomination) but was strong in county conditions recently and also has vast experience. I would think if he can back up his outstanding Ryobi form with some Sheffield Shield runs he would be in the reckoning, even if he is recently 30 (c.f Chris Rogers). Love watching Klinger bat, a natural.

Competition for Ashes spots great for Sheffield Shield

Yeah good points – just saw this little gem of a quote in the NZ Herald. “While ARU had not received any formal notification, complaints or reports from police, airline or security officials, ARU began an investigation into the alleged incident.

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

You nailed it – of course they are going to label him as drunk, and we have all seen how the press has run away with it since.

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

Why do you believe the hearsay of ARU officials so religiously on the one hand to prove your point about him being cunning, yet on the other don’t trust them in their appraisal of JOC as not being drunk re BK and the Airport incident?

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

Shh Mania – that is far too reasonable a position for some Roarers. JOC has been one of the few bright spots in the WBs season so far. Unfortunately he is a player a lot of fans love to hate. Would be a shame if this somehow derailed his Western Force deal (has that been signed yet?).

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

Do you really think an Air Asia spokesperson is going to come out and say “NO he wasn’t drunk or intoxicated, we got him escorted by AFP for no other reason than the fact that he vehemently disagreed with us, and this is what airlines tend to do” (as some Roarers have even highlighted on this thread)? All some people, myself included, are trying to say is that a lot of this has been allegations which JOC (rightly or wrongly) has denied – including the intoxication part. We are all not stupid Mick, its likely he was munted and he has definitely made the mistake of putting himself in the situation where he can be subject to the usual characters witch hunt/selling of newspapers.

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

We don’t know for sure that he was even drunk though B-rock

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

We don’t even know definitively that he was drunk at all. I think a lot of people are jumping to conclusions because they think they know the guy, when in reality our knowledge of the guys actions are made up of snippts of rumours and varoious news articles. I agree with some sentiments above, the press knows this guys sells papers so they put a lot of crap in there.

O'Connor thrown out of Perth airport for being drunk

Hold on – is there anything concrete in the above article which says it was James O’Connor who was escorted?

“The 44-test winger was NOT allowed..” – has that been proven?

The ARU seems happy with James’ version of events – ie seating arrangments stuffed up (v likely on Air Asia), and rechecking in, no booze, no AFP.

I would like to also read the AFP statement that was supposedly released to ‘various’ news outlets.

Hahaha classic right – turns out Robbie may have known a thing or two…

Genia dropped as McKenzie names Wallabies squad to face Pumas

Toomua honestly improved a lot from B1 –> B2 and then got dumped. We really should have left the guy to mature there as he is clearly the future Wallaby 10. Still happy for him to get exposure.

Genia dropped as McKenzie names Wallabies squad to face Pumas

why were these criticisms of players never levelled when Deans was the coach? Even when he was plagued with massive amounts of injuries people refused to blame players. to the point it was ridiculous – apparently Deans couldn’t motivate the players or get the best out of them, there was very little fault laid at there door. I think in one post-match Will Genia, even mentioned how at the end of the day the players are the ones on the field (when responding to some form of veiled criticism of the coaches) – how ironic now.

Will is probably the Wallabies best player, big call to drop him. But I do agree he has looked tired since the Lions series really.

Genia dropped as McKenzie names Wallabies squad to face Pumas

That is an interesting point, its been mentioned a little by posters here and there, but why was Benn Robinson dropped, and is he in the fold – training with the squad etc? Or is he just been dumped? I thought he was a good setpiece merchant? But obv not rated on same level as Sio and Slipper – which is ok if it is a nod to the future? What about Paddy Ryan?

Welcome back Jiggles.

Genia dropped as McKenzie names Wallabies squad to face Pumas

Agreed, there was far too muh sovellin ofthball acros the line in B2, without any real drive forward. Wallabies support play on a few ky breaks was also a bit wanting, which allowed ABs players to effectively kill try scoring opportunities. Hopefully the team has been working n that. Im gutted for Toomua, but excited to see what Quade can do.

SPIRO: Quade's moment of truth at Suncorp Stadium

No its not widely agreed that he made an impact, from my recollection he came on and made errors. But I guess different people see different things.

SPIRO: Quade's moment of truth at Suncorp Stadium

Ironic.

If you are going to troll – work on your (that is right, not you’re – as above) reading and writing comprehension skills?

Wallabies team announced: Cooper at flyhalf, Folau to fullback

Also – people calling for Hooper to be dropped are just plain delusional.

Wallabies team announced: Cooper at flyhalf, Folau to fullback

What a bloody joke.

Link has literally tried to destroy two very promising players of the future – Toomua and Mogg. Mogg needs more time for sure and will always probably be second fiddle to a fit Kurtley beale (or maybe now Folau) but Toomua had a lot to like in bledisloe 2. He is growing well in to the role at 10 and to be pulled for Quade now is just plain confusing.

Did Ewen think that Quade was not as good against the ABs? Did he want to protect Quade from some booing? I’d prefer games are not played with Toomua being pulled every time we dont play the ABs, give the kid a chance and stop chopping and changing players for the hell of it, allow CL and Toomua to actually combine at test level.

Wallabies team announced: Cooper at flyhalf, Folau to fullback

For me – Folau will push AAC out of the 13 jersey (eventually). Big call, but AAC is not getting any younger. I think shifting Izzy in one player will involve him defensively and offensively much more. At the Wallabies level, I would love to see players being groomed for the following backline.

9 Genia
10 Toomua
11 Tomane
12 JOC
13 Folau
14 Speight
15 Beale

Folau to stay with Wallabies to 2015 World Cup

Wallabies team named to play Lions in Third Test

Wow Mania. Egg on face. Turns out Deans didnt end Smith’s career. http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/smith-urged-to-rethink-retiring-and-play-until-next-world-cup-20130704-2pewj.html

Wallabies team named to play Lions in Third Test

I am coming around to the whole idea of it mania – I am just a little bit apprehensive is all, its been 4 years, and 5 weeks out from a knee injury. But if RD and the coaching staff think he is good to go, I have faith he can do the job.
