Coolmore tend to name their horses after historical figures both Irish and International, George Washington, Dylan Thomas, Galileo.. they also name horses after place names Rock of Gibraltar, Giants Causeway, Milan… They give their thoroughbred worthy names. I don’t think they take humour into account when naming horses.
Coolmore/Ballydoyle believed Adelaide had the right profile for American & Australian races i.e. tight, circular tracks. European tracks are more galloping & undulating, maybe this didn’t suit Adelaide. Ballydoyle have a big enough stable to aim for most of the worlds big races.

2014 Cox Plate: It's time for a Champion to step up to the plate

All good Andrew, Ryan Moore must be one of the best jockeys in the world, although he left a lot of work for himself in the race

2014 Cox Plate: It's time for a Champion to step up to the plate

Kv you know your Irish geography, you must have done some backpacking in your time?
I’m sure South Australians will claim some part of Adelaide’s win!!

Yes but City got a big win, according to The Telegraph ‘City’s £400m Etihad sponsorship deal was passed by Uefa but the club have agreed not to increase the value of two “second-tier commercial partnerships” with other parties related to their Abu Dhabi-based owners’. There is still concerns over the sponsorship deals with sister companies which are not market value. In my opinion UEFA have been very lenient on this issue. The majority of other clubs depend on sponsorship deals earned on merit. There seems to be a loophole that City are taking advantage of.

Financial fair play in football will result in sustainable dynasties

Catching the opposing team on the counter is legitimate. ‘Playing the odds’ for a mistake is not sophisticated, what are the odds for accidental slip like Gerard’s? Pretty low I would reckon, I would class that as unsophisticated.

Liverpool v Chelsea: "Game of buses"

Sheek, I suppose it is a big days racing with both the QE11 and Champions Stakes on the same day but unlike the Breeders Cup or Dubai World Cup I can’t see it being the peak of the UK flat season. U.K top races are spread out fairly good with the Guineas in May, the Derby and Royal Ascot in June, the Eclipse and King George in July and Glorious Goodwood in August.

Royal Ascot: Champion Stakes preview

Novellist will miss Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after being found to have a fever.Trainer Andreas Wohler told the Racing Post: “Everything was fine until this morning when we took his temperature.”

Obversavations on the 2013 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Justin, the top earning middle distance Europeans according to the Racing Post are as follows:

Ruler Of The World £816,340
Declaration Of War £752,690
Al Kazeem £639,294
Sky Lantern £625,044
Novellist £603,962
Trading Leather £422,475
Libertarian £422,209
Talent £393,410

Apart from the Derby winner Ruler of the World the rest of these horses have had several races to amount this money. With prize money of about £1 million sterling to the winner, the Cox plate definitely should be worth consideration by European trainers. A horse like Snow Fairy had the perfect profile for this race, she loved fast ground and being a mare with less earning potential as a breeder than the colts it was in connections interest to follow the dollars. Aidan O’Brien has a good 2 year old out of Galileo and champion mare Ouija Board, his name? Australia, maybe he’s a future Cox Plate runner.

International controversy to overshadow brilliant Cox Plate

That’s a big call, High Chaparral was a duel derby winner, twice breeders cup turf winner and irish champion stakes winner. SYT is high chaparrals greatest progeny, IADD and Toranado battling it out for 2nd.

It's A Dundeel to race on as owners put racing first

European riders will only jet in and jet out this time of year with the arc and champion stakes meeting being on. Likewise the Americans won’t come because of the Breeders Cup. Maybe the Asian jockeys might.

Lack of foreign jockeys due to low quality racing?

Di Canio as I suspected was a spectacular failure, although I don’t agree with sacking a manager this early in the season, his antics have quickened the process, karma for his disrespectful comments on Martin O’Neill.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Sunderland

Apart from the result and performance, it was tepid at best, a wake up call for liverpool, without coutiniho and Suarez they’ll struggle. Midfield nowhere to be seen, hence the liverpool keeper had to kick long balls all game to small liverpool forwards, they need a creative midfielder able to control the game, although that’s what joe Allen was bought for.

A Liverpool fan's memorable day at Anfield

It’s hard to imagine a coolmore horse making all the running under Aidan O’Brien. She certainly set up the race for Its A Dundeel although he did work hard for it, he’s a tough horse, I think the extra 200m in the Cox Plate will suit him a lot more than the mare.

2013 Underwood Stakes: Horse racing preview, live blog, tips

I thought using a pacemaker is frowned upon in Australian racing Alfred? As you point out the connections would have to be the same, has Atlantic Jewels owners any other horses they are willing to sacrifice?

That makes me feel better Alfred, you’ve been doing better with your selections than me

The Juddmonte International Stakes preview

Yes maybe that’s the only way trading leather can win, take the running half way through but a strong gallop should play to Al Kazeems strengths. I just don’t think trading leather is equipped to win this and if he does what a performance Novellist gave in the King George.

The Juddmonte International Stakes preview

Ok I know what you mean now, the world thoroughbred rankings. CDA could only come 2nd on his last start in a French Group 3, I don’t think he retains his previous ability.

Puissance De Lune: Is the Cup in the bag or are bookies mad?

Kv joef, excuse my ignorance but what rating/handicap system is OTR? How does Novellist rate 4 pounds below Sea Moon, a horse yet to win a G1.

Puissance De Lune: Is the Cup in the bag or are bookies mad?

He’s entitled to give an honest assessment if he wants but it’s bad form kicking a manager on his way out. Di Canio, like most managers will be in the same position some day himself so I hope his replacement his more gracious.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Sunderland

Yes but that incident does give an insight in to his character and not being able to control his temper. Fair enough, he has had some success at Swindon albeit at a much lower level. This doesn’t always translate to the premiership. I’m basing my opinion on all his talk of lack of discipline and fitness, there was no need it for it, he should just keep his head down and get stuck in. Instead he showed no respect for Martin O’Neill, a man that had won 2 league cups with Leicester and got Celtic to a UEFA cup final. If Di Canio matches those feats he’ll do well.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Sunderland

I’m not sure Di Canio should be held up as some champion of discipline. This is the guy who pushed a referee to the ground as a player.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Sunderland

The fact he was a good player has no relevance to his ability as a manager. His passion or over emotion will betray him, the players will tire of his over the top reaction to incidents and realise he’s mostly hot air without substance.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Sunderland

Di Canio is an egotistical drama queen. Imagine coming out and disrespecting your predecessor by telling the media that Sunderland are lacking fitness, he really showed his lack of class in that situation kicking O’Neill when he’s down.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Sunderland

Olympic Glory was a very good 2 year old winning the Group 1 Grand Criterium and 2nd to Dawn Approach in last years Coventry Stakes. He put in a poor effort in the French 2000 Guineas although he encountered traffic. That run was 3 months ago and given he struggled against his own age it would take a brave man to back him here. The European mile division looks strong.

Prix Jacques le Marois preview

How about Carlton House Justin, Is he being aimed at a spring campaign?

Gai to copy Lloyd but will it bring her the 2013 Melbourne Cup?
