The doom and gloom surrounding football at the moment is almost too much to take for a self-confessed huge fan of modern football and…
He also referred to Western United as Western Sydney at least twice on Saturday…..He tries and to be honest I don’t mind him considering always disliking him during his career(tall poppy syndrome). Maybe they should keep him to the couch though. With the reduction in pundits it looks like they’ve got people doing multiple roles.

I find this annoying when it is constantly refreshed or repeated too. Andy Harpers NSL Goals and Appearances in particular. I think it is an attempt to garner respect for their opinions like you suggest, but then many of the best pundits and commentators have never played professionally. I don’t mind the tactic, I just think it’s over used.

Thanks for writing this up. I was upset I couldn’t make it to Bernie Mullane on the weekend, and particularly as it’s so close to home for me. Every time I read a Mike Cockerill article and his voice entered your mind as you inflected, the world was a better place. I remember sharing some short chats with him at Lambert Park when APIA or Sydney FC NPL were playing and just genuinely enjoying his company. Even now when his name is mentioned or you hear the commentary on an old game he so expertly described, you can’t help but shake your head and smile. Definitely missed. I will try and make this day next year.

I’m not a fan of the Fox Sports led gimmicks as it singles out a community and excludes others who arguably have more skin in the Australian Football game! Indigenous Football Week/Round? Big Yes. I would be happy if all others were covered in a “World Game Week” or “Multicultural Round”. Then I would absolutely get a Thomas Deng or Awer Mabil to speak and put their stories out there again and again. As you say, these communities are often marginalized and anything we can do as a game to give them positive role models, I’m all for it.

I know this is a bit off topic and there have been articles but….. WHY don’t the NSW Government simply Copy+Paste Bankwest and build it at Moore Park? For reals. Cost and all. I’ve been three times now(Leeds, Mariners and Derby) and it’s just good. Apart from the Iron Jack being flat out of the speed pours…. they should fix that. Stat.
