Hi Paul, leading into this World Cup as they do in the year prior to every tournament, the ICC held 2 different rounds of qualifying. the first was for the lower ranked associate teams with the top 2 from that competition progressing to the 2nd round of qualifying which consisted of teams ranked 9-14 of full ICC member countries with the winners gaining the final 2 spots in the tournament
A great World Cup beckons with a key ingredient missing
Cheers for the tip off Paul re spelling. Appreciate it.

Nine Questions to come from Round 19
you make a valid point Liam, but i do infact research before i write. if you watch the way Collingwood play, their forward line is set up around the structure of Stephenson and for a first year player to have that control, influence and freedom that he has over such an important part of the ground is amazing for someone who is just 15 games into a career. Nick Riewoldt only managed 2 goals from 6 games in his debut year. Cyril kicked 24 in a Flag winning year, Stephenson is on par with that now with 8 plus finals to play
Nine questions to come from Round 15
Spot on Peter. I’m not comparing Bolton to Buckley but Buckley inherited a side that had come off 3 Grand Finals and in his first year took that group to a Prelim. He has now restructured the list into the list that he wants and it would seem that the tide has started to turn at Collingwood. i believe over the past few years you have recruited to have another real dip at the flag in a couple of years time and are actually shaping up really well. What i was explaining with Bolton is that he did what he had to do and that was effectively wipe the decks clean and start over. the list should be ready by about 2020/ 2021 to perform and challenge and be in rising group of teams but i go back to what you said before in your comeent and what i was alluding too in the article above. What will the comp look like then? who will be contending? how will teams go about building thier lists for the here and now and try and build a flag in a matter of seasons rather than a slow burn

Thanks Paul, i starting the foundations of this piece on Sunday when we didnt have much clarity. i think what the bans will do now is hopefully send a message to the ICC and Cricketing bodies around the world. which is why as harsh as it is, i applaud CA for going hard on the penalties. Cricket will rebuild, but what CA have done is show everyone that any form of cheating shouldnt be tolerated and this is how you deal with it
The fabric of Australian sport
please let me clear something up. when i was referring to the XI looking shaky i was referring to the indifferent form of some of the players in the team. Renshaw has hardly his a run this shield season. same as Warner but we all seemingly know what we are going to get from him. Khawaja and Smith were tuning up nicely as was Handscomb but even he hasnt made as much runs as he would have liked. then the debate rages over 6 and 7 and then its the bowlers who we will again rely upon to do the job because our bats are a little out of form. its a strong statement but one one that i think is just but all can change after this shield round.
A message to selectors: Keep keeping first
the arrangement between Fox and 7 will remain. 3 -4 games on 7 (If they play Thursday nights for the remainder of the year) the rest live on Fox. one would assume now ith no Olympics this year that it would all be on the main Channel in Victoria. I can’t speak for other states on the FTA schedule but would assume that is a chance to be all on the main channel as NRL is on Nine
