The ICC haven’t got the mandate to do anything. They are essentially a ratification organisation.

Test Mortem: Adelaide shafted by schedule but pitch not up to scratch, Smith-Green jury still out, SOS to ICC for Windies

when did “woke” become this catchall term to disparage things you don’t like. When RWNJ thought they were being clever.

I do find it ironic(?) that as those who pursue professional sports move up the ranks, their demands in how they play the sport becomes so strict.

I live near tennis courts, where semi-pros and juniors play. There are courts side-by-side. So you can easily hear the sounds of 4 courts’ games while you play your own. They seem to manage.

Same for cricketers. I’ve played with not much of a sightscreen, in poor light, in the rain, as would those playing international cricket. But move up the ranks, and the slightest inconvenience means a pause.

But at the same time, I agree with Steve Kerr’s assessment, that basketball games are now basically nightclubs with a game going on. They can at least turn it down a bit.

But complete silence? really.

'Really disturbing': The bizarre way 'Courtside Bar' hecklers got under Aus Open star's skin

I see Nick’s started to use the US definition of athlete, that its anyone who plays sport.

As much as he seems like flog, I’d happily put Novak as the tennis player, not athlete.

In pure athletic feats, Roman Sebrle would be my pick.

Bradman, Jordan, Ali ... Djokovic? Kyrgios claims Novak 'in the conversation for greatest athlete ever'

I think it’s you that misunderstands the term.

You would have hated the Sydney Pink Test then.

'Looked like Chennai': Ponting blasts 'substandard' pitch as rank turner helps Agar to ridiculous figures

“Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird and CEO Nick Hockley, along with players’ union boss Todd Greenberg, have responded by saying more needs to be done to divert finances to the nine Test-playing nations who are on the outside looking in at the wealth of India, Australia and England.”

This is all lip service. CA like the ECB and more importantly the BCCI are only in it for themselves. See the recent carve up of ICC funds for example. Further the organization of matches is left to member boards, the ICC just publish a list of “would-be-nice-to-see” matches/tours. The each board is left to their own devices, See Australia’s refusal to play Bangladesh for example, without any real punishment. The ICC should, but never will, take control, so cricket will eat itself.

Talk is cheap: Only real investment can stop Test cricket ending up like rugby league

The Smith option is purely fitting in Green without too much alteration to the squad. It also reeks of shortsightedness.

Pick either Bancroft or Renshaw. There was some discussion that Warner and Smith have somewhat been able to salvage their reputation post 2018 South Africa. While Bancroft has not; he really seems to be the odd man out. Is Warner that powerful in CA’s inner circles? Noting Warner refusing to name him, instead picking Harris – this alone cements Warner’s place as a imbecile. While Renshaw has been around the group so maybe they view him as next man up.

It leaves Green as the real next in line. Keep Marsh till his form or injury keeps him out, then get Green back in there. Not the best outcome for Green, but in the mean time get him any form of cricket. Being 12th man and having a net is no substitute for actual game time.

Like any major decision, make it early. Delaying it rarely achieves desired outcomes.

Every Australian Test opener option, ranked: Why sending Smith up is a recipe for disaster

The only thing worse than this Day 1 (which wasn’t that bad) is the hand wringing from all the casuals.

'Can see the entire XI changing for the next Test': South Africa skittled for 96-year low, India lose 6-0 on day of disaster

I don’t disagree with your comments.

The playing for his spot, is more around the perception in performances. Playing for his spot, perhaps better described as learning his craft in Tests.

Every Aussie rated from first Test vs Pakistan: Brutal Bison, Marnus misery as Warner secures farewell

The Mitch Marsh/Cam Green comparisons are unfair.

Mitch Marsh has the relative freedom that his performances don’t really matter, professionally and personally. He’s around for a fun time not a long time.

Whereas Cam Green is always nearly always playing for his spot. That makes you play more conservatively.

Didn’t say anything wasn’t true (on the face value of them). But I also more skeptical, given the Warner PR machine has attempted controlled the narrative, since his return.
What he said, wasn’t what he meant/implied.

COMMENT: David Warner defied his critics - but he didn't prove them wrong

thanks Candice.

Australians in general are fair weather fans. As long as a team is winning we’ll get behind them. But we have we win a certain way. Easy wins against soft teams, don’t count.

Do Australians love Test cricket or just watching the baggy green side win at home pretty much all the time?

yes there is.

‘Quite disgusting, childish, condescending’: Johnson blasts Bailey over mental health comment as Warner feud gets nastier

Since South Africa, the Warners have very carefully and brilliantly managed their image.

It’s the classic PR, “Control the narrative”.

This comment… are you a selector?
Got your tickets to the SCG farewell? (Tissues packed?) Pre ordered the book already?
What does? being mates with the selectors? Hitting them well in the nets? Being of value in dressing room? getting around the boys?

Bancroft has pretty decent numbers over the last 18 months.

Whoever looks after the Warner’s PR will undoubtedly be getting a nice bonus this year. Not only has the Warner’s believing it, but also the selectors and the team.

David should roll his arm over more, the spin would be incredible.

Teflon Bailey: Johnson right about selectors being too close to players but Warner won’t be denied fairytale farewell

Calm down championship.
