Yes Geoff but this very same season earlier he wasn’t doing any of that. The consistency of messaging is lacking. Play in this fashion then next week have a go, play what is in front of you. I know it is not all the coaches fault but Dermody has shown a pattern for the last two seasons in charge as well his tenure with Tasman where at the NPC level he had a dream squad that struggled to score points from very slow ball.

Thanks Geoff for the read. Highlanders Force was poor quality but they were trying I guess. I can’t say what went wrong for the Force but the Highlanders just look bewildered at what they are trying to do. Patchell did look like he knew but only lasted 20 minutes. It was interesting that Harmon said that the coaches had just told the team to have a go. I’m thinking the coaching group is out of ideas as their plans before have simply not delivered progress but regression. A player like Fakatava needs clarity about what the team is trying to do. If you take that away then you get what resulted on Saturday night.

That was bizarre. The ref made an assumption based on his bad line of sight for that tackle. Buck (Bok) fever effect.

Missed tackles can be a misleading stat at times. The wingers for SA will often miss the tackle but it is still a good result as the ball carrier is directed infield to the heavy hitters. The Highlanders used Malaki Fekitoa to lead the line in this fashion to snuff out a promising attack. You would see a stat saying he missed a number of tackles but the ball would not make it to edge or the rhythm of the attack was gone as supporting runners would lose positioning.

If the counter ruck was used more then the other pack will need to commit more bodies. Then there should be more space. This is why I think refs need to apply law 15 more about players leaving their feet at the ruck to stop the pile up of the forlorn hope there.

Nepia and my grandmother would of likely of been roughly the same age. I’m on the Maori roll but will be leaving it next time because I only got 4 candidates to choose from. I ended up voting for the Tartaria conspiracy guy as I was not going to give any validity to the other 3.

One possible reason whysome sides are not contesting the breakdown is fear of a penalty being awarded with the lineout drive in the 22 coming as a result. I think the teams that follow that approach are not reaping any benefits and are just exhausting themselves in the repeated tackle.

Apartheid as we know it was not implemented till 1948 but there was clearly an informal system of racial exclusion going on well before then. It is shameful that the NZRU did this in 1928 as not to offend their hosts.
