So much commentary on how many teams we should have in SR like it is some sort of panacea. We in Australia are just so arrogant. Other very successful countries have created amazing national teams through centralisation, but in our arrogance we think we have a better solution. Its really not that hard. A huge thank you to our Queensland brethren for scuppering any hope of that. So now we can waste another 2-3 years of the current structure not working, until the rest of the states finally get onboard. Three teams or five teams are irrelevant if we are doubling up on administration and systems when we hardly have the money to fund one structure. But hey, we know better than the rest of the world right……

COMMENT: 'Best interests of the game'? Hamish's dummy spit proves RA was right to cut him loose

Shame centralisation didnt get through before he jumped ship. The states upended the board to avoid it. Check mate, but rubbish for Aussie rugby.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

Donaldson great in attack and great kicking game. Huge liability in defence though. Roarers thoughts overall on our defence. Was it poor structure or rubbish tackling? Or a bit of both?

'Doing their thing, playing free:' Wallabies smash Georgia to kick-start RWC campaign in style

Its so frustrating reading this stuff. Its just so simple. The Irish have an amazing model designed by an Aussie. Copy their model. Let me say it twice, copy their model. We dont need new theories, ideas, views, or opinions, simply do what has worked elsewhere. A pro 14 type competition, and a heineken cup equivalent. Club rugby plays a very small part in Irish Rugby’s success at the elite level. Build a model that replicates that, with whoever in the region will cooperate. Centralise contracts too. Not that hard.

COMMENT: 'Making a choice' - the key issue facing Australia’s third tier

He’d be mad to get back involved. As would Cheika. Best we keep burning anyone thats won a rugby title or got to a RWC final. Dave Rennie would be good at that job too…. doubt he would be interested. Laurie could do it but he is disrespectful. Maybe bring in an inexperienced NRL type.

The town planner who can fix Australian rugby: Wallabies great who RA, Eddie must hope will take key role

We have okay players. And agreed they are not working together as a team.

The Wrap: A dozen reasons why the Wallabies can’t win the World Cup - and a couple why they might

We have an obsession with our backs, when it is our forward pack that is the real key. And we don’t have the cattle. I wont be surprised if Fiji beat us. Shame Rennie isnt around, he got us with a penalty of Ireland in Dublin, and the same against France in Paris. Yes our B team lost to Italy, but aside from that Rennie was getting the best out of the talent we have. Kiwis will thump us on the weekend. Jones carrying on like a goose saying they should be scared….

The Wrap: A dozen reasons why the Wallabies can’t win the World Cup - and a couple why they might

Why are we always obsessed with backs in Australia……..? great to have the additional talent, but they are not going to win us the RWC. Even when we buy players from the NRL, its always backs (I know, I know, easier to convert). I know we need good future 9s and 10s, but its the forward pack that will make the real difference in my view.

COMMENT: 'Australia is a tier-two nation' - Eddie must pick former All Blacks star for 'smash and grab' World Cup

I wonder what the business case is for just targeting top talent from the other codes? I mean, lets be honest, a couple of million drip fed across a myriad of small clubs isn’t really going to do much at grass roots. And even then, there are no guarantees of it creating top talent. Sadly, our great game is dying in Australia. Maybe the only way to get it popular again is to focus on a strong Wallaby team now. Lets say the ARU dropped $15mil targeting the best NRL and AFL talent we could bring across. If we were able to get 4 or 5 converts to perform at the highest levels in the game, maybe we could be a shot at a World Cup. If the Wallabies started winning big games, and beating the ABs, we could build on that popularity, and kids would want to play the game. Any business analysts who would care to crunch the numbers?

'I don't want NRL to be feeder system': Gus fires back in Suaalii slanging match after Robbo blasts 'ridiculous comment'

Ive got box seats through work for the game this weekend against Ireland. I will be the only person in there in a Wallabies jersey. All I hope is that they put in a big effort. I dont mind losing, as long as they leave everything out on the field. But after Italy, god knows how it might end up.

I'm not giving up on the Wallabies, but I have no idea where they're going now

Credit to the Boks for a highly deserved win, but geez, what a torrid game of rugby. Zero spectacle. Slipper was right, the Wallabies didnt play any rugby….and the ref didnt help either side, a bit whistle happy….and the joker video reviewing the clean out….awful game for the fans to watch.

'I want the boys to hurt': Everything Slipper and Rennie said about Boks 'choke', Beale, Foley prospects

I know our win ratio has been poor but I really think we are lucky to have a coach like Rennie. Hes looking to make better players and better people. The RWC will be the true measure.

'Could have been disastrous': Everything Dave Rennie said about ballsy Noah play, Tupou form slump and Hoops talks

Its not something we want in our game. Ridiculous carry on. Interesting though that Brian Habana was quite the expert in play acting back in the day. See youtube link.

WILL GENIA: 'I hate that's the way the game is going' - the 'atrocious and ridiculous' act in Wallabies' win

What frustrates me is giving away silly penalties and throwing aimless passes. Ridiculous. I had to turn it off or risk destroying the telly. I dont mind if they get beaten in a close test, or some such, but its just such poor rugby.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Why isn’t Skelton playing? He was immense against Leinster, which is most of the Irish team. And he played the full 80 minutes. He would have been highly valued against the English forwards.

'He'll fulfil a role': Everything Rennie said on Simone shock, replacing Kerevi and the chances of a Hooper-McReight pairing

Changing the coach is a wise move, but even with the change the ABs dont have the players they had 5 years ago. I reckon if they are well coached they could be 3rd in the world, maybe second at a push, but you cant just replace Carter, McCaw, Nonu, Smith, TJ etc etc etc. What a team that was! Sorry to my Kiwi brothers, but probably need a few years before you guys are back on top.

NZ View: 'Drastic change' demanded with Foster and Cane in crosshairs as 'woefully flawed' ABs need answers fast

Well said.

Is it too late to reverse rugby's long decline?

Interesting article. Thanks for the insights. Couple of points from my humble point of view. Firstly, the ABs Ireland and ABs France games were brilliant. Fast attacking rugby. If you watched those you would conclude there wasn’t much to be fixed. Secondly, I dont think you have addressed the biggest issue, which is replacements. There are currently 8 on the bench. At the 50 min mark teams usually change half of their team. It keeps defences too tight. It also allows bigger bulkier players to hammer away in stick it up your jumper rugby. Reduce the bench to 3. PLayers would have to de bulk to last the full 80 minutes. Fatigue would set in and defences would open up. There would be less battering away at defensive lines. Problem solved.

Is it too late to reverse rugby's long decline?

But that doesn’t account for the rubbish ball handling, and ill discipline. Head high tacksl, a poor scrum……… It was a very poor performance regardless of who was missing.

MATCH REPORT: Brave but bumbling, the Wallabies fall to Eddie for eighth straight time

There is a global pandemic on that is killing people. Rugby isn’t a priority unfortunately…. no point getting annoyed about it.

WATCH: Dave Rennie tears New Zealand Rugby a new one in extraordinary presser

We really did well on the coaching front. Great press conference. Young team but lets hope they play without fear and give the ABs a good game. Good luck to them.

What Hooper and Rennie said about Jordan Petaia, Eden Park and Quade Cooper ahead of the Bledisloe Cup

I live in the NH, and watch most of my rugby here. so I don’t mind a bit of stick it up your jumper stuff. I was listening to Keith Wood and Brian O’Driscoll on the ‘off the ball’ podcast today. Keith Wood said it was an appalling game of rugby to watch. I’m going to agree with him.

The Springboks handle the British and Irish Lions 27-9 to level the series

I thought the game was a poor spectacle. For most of the game it went kick, knock on, scrum, penalty, line out, rinse and repeat…. boring. Well done to the bokkies but I’m not sure I will tune in next week. Anyone else think it was rubbish to watch?

The Springboks handle the British and Irish Lions 27-9 to level the series

Can anyone explain the rationale on expanding into the Pacific? I love the feel good factor, and trying to drive that amazing talent pool toward the game, but where is the money? Are any of you interested in seeing Pacifica teams in the comp? I’m not, and I wonder if many other fans are?
I thought the money was in Japan (in our region). Clearly we made a dogs breakfast of trying to get a slice of that – maybe we should have another go though? Way bigger market, way more opportunities to sell TV rights. I am dubious about this plan – but happy to be educated by those that are in the know.

I have really enjoyed the local competition. I know it can get a bit stale, but its competitive (usually – less my own team the Tahs). I enjoyed a lot of the other games even as a neutral. Can we not just develop on the current set up, or incorporate it somehow? Instead of just focusing on Trans Tasman could we do something with Japan and TT for a finals series?

The two lingering questions from an incredible weekend of Super Rugby finals

Great game as a neutral. Well done to the Reds. Thought the brumbies were the better team except for the srum. Ref bashing gets boring. Let the Reds have their night.
