I’m not too worried about the Rebels. They are still a relatively new side, only entering the comp in 2011. And their end of season position has slowly improved from
15 in 2011
13 in 2012
12 in 2013
Of course greater improvements would be better. But we have seen how well teams from Melbourne do in the NRL, AFL and even A-league. We might not expect the same success from the Rebels but they should be alright.
Although I’m not so confident about the Force.
The Australian Super Rugby season that was
Whether it will decide 1st/2nd place or not, the last round match between Rooster and Souths should be just as exciting as it was in the first round.
The NRL 16: Where they will finish
Would love to have seen Mooy play. I thought he was great in the East Asian Cup Qualifiers and had earned himself a position in the squad.
Australia beaten 3-2 by Japan
Daley wrote about the Fullback position for the Blues in the Telegraph this morning. He says he doesn’t want to give away what he is doing too early, for obvious reasons, but thinks Hayne is a quality player and the logical choice would be to move him to FB from the wing.
With Brett Morris also probably out for Origin I this opens up the wing for new players. Daley lists Merritt, Uate, Ferguson, Taufua and Gordon as possibilities. How do you feel about this? Who would you like to see play on the wings?
NSW Origin fullback replacements for Stewart
Do you think Ballarat is large enough to support its own team, or should it be paired with Bendigo for example?
A-League expansion possibilities
Claims Canberra’s failed A-league bid lodged $4 million with help from TransACT Ceo, foundation members, and ACT government
A-League expansion possibilities
Nice idea, but not sure how well it would work. I imagine the gulf in class between the A-league and a B-league would be too great, and relegation/promotion would become a bit of a joke.
A-League expansion possibilities
Cheers mate,
Next team should definitely be Canberra. With a W-League team and close to the ‘heart-land’ of Sydney they should not be overlooked again.
A-League expansion possibilities
I think it’ll go down to Rafa or Nole, even with their injuries it is hard to look past these two players. But it would be amazing to see a player outside the top four win.
French Open preview: Men's draw most open in years.
A few A-league and Socceroos matches in Canberra have had poor crowd attendance, but I think that is due to poor planning and lack of advertising by the FFA. If the team is handled properly then the people of Canberra will no doubt turn up to support them.
A-League should look to Canberra for expansion
It takes at least 2 hours to get from Canberra to the Gong. The main problem being public transport (buses, trains, etc) I would expect a great deal of opposition if a joint bid was suggested by the FFA
A-League expansion possibilities
Hayne can be a good winger, but because he doesn’t normally play there he isn’t used to it can will make mistakes, play out of position, etc.
Hayne's not a fullback nor a five-eighth, he's a winger
Definitely not bashing-Hayne. I am an Eels supporter and agree that he is their best player. However the team and Hayne have struggled in recent seasons and hopefully Stuart can do something to change that.
Plane or pain: is Jarryd Hayne any good?
Maybe. Hayne has been tried at different positions before, but it never really worked out so well.
Plane or pain: is Jarryd Hayne any good?
Interesting point. Kearney was a good coach, but struggled during his time at the Eels. It will be good to see what Stuart can get out of Hayne this year.

Every match this season that Dino has scored, the Wanderers have gotten six goals.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Brisbane Roar: A-League Finals live scores, blog
It is true that the A-league is not up to the standards of other leagues around the world. There are very few leagues where this would happen, that a team in their first season would top the ladder. It is also true that the quality of football is improving, and I think the Wanderers have their part to be thanked for this. But this is our A-League, and we need to embrace it and it will not continue to improve unless the supporters get behind it.
Why Western Sydney Wanderers won Premier's Plate
Yeah Poljak is good, I don’t deny that. It was difficult to decide who to leave out and who to include. I decided to have Polenz instead of Poljak.
One of the reasons the Wanderers were so successful is that they have such a good squad, and Popa could rotate any number of players into the first team. I was also impressed with the young talents they have, like the young guy they played against Jets who didn’t even have a name on his jersey.
Why Western Sydney Wanderers won Premier's Plate
How about Pirlo? I think he is up there with Barca’s two midfielders. He may be getting old, but is still playing very well.
Football's five midfielders - the catalysts of the game
That’s a good question, I think I would pick Covic. He has been in better form for the Wanderers than Schwarzer has been for Fulham. That being said, the Premier League and the A-league are not quite competitive equals.
But I cannot see Covic getting a call up for the Socceroos, where Schwarzer has been somewhat excessively relied-upon. If another keeper was given a chance, I think it should be a younger one, maybe Langerack or Ryan.
Why Western Sydney Wanderers won Premier's Plate
Parra didn’t play too badly in the last few seasons, they were very unlucky a lot of the time. They have started this season with 1 good win, and a couple more would do their confidence good.
Bulldogs beware, an Eels ambush imminent
Can’t wait to see the Eels. I think they should be able to win. It seems they are a team that is improving, while the Doggies are unimproving.
2013 NRL season: round two preview
Very impressed by Li Na who completely dominated Aga in their quarter-final. Radwanksa lost her first set for the year, and I think she had trouble rallying afterwards.
Armchair guide to the Australian Open: quarter-finals preview
Yeah its not a real Battle for the Wooden Spoon, its just a battle between the two lowest teams.
If the Eels loose they will almost definitely get the wooden spoon. But even if they win they will probably still get it again.
