Ange for the wallabies and PM

Astonishing that Eddie Jones still has a job .

Spurs are going well. Not sure they have the depth to go top 4.

What the EPL?: Ange’s revolution, Darwin’s evolution and West Ham find the Brighton solution

Not sure Montgomery could realistically go from ccm to Celtic. However, doing a good job with Hibernian puts his name forward for future bigger clubs.

Arnold 'keen to consider' club job as Socceroos boss firms to follow Ange to Scotland

Well done young Bellingham, the boy from Birmingham City . England are producing some fantastic young players the last few years.

England don't need Bellingham to be another Gerrard - he could actually lead them to World Cup glory

Insipid . Pretty sure they have some recent Tour de France winners and insipid does not describe Le tour. Regular Boxing champions , not insipid, lots of other non insipid sports

Sticking it to the mother country: England can beat Australia at rugby and football ... but what about every other sport?

The Matildas play 20-25 home games in the 4 years between world cups. They are a popular brand , atm the most popular sports brand in Australia.

RA's 'devastating, no substance' response to Wallaroos shows exactly why rugby is being left behind

Great post Rodger. Still get tears thinking about Courtney vine and McKenzie in that shootout

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

England women cane 4 th last World Cup and still decided to change their coach. Have since won the euros and 2 nd in World Cup with their best 3 players missing.
Better to be ahead of the game, if a better coach is available then it’s worth some consideration.

Plenty of winners after Women's World Cup, yet funding debate addresses most important group of all

No doubt the Socceroos brand suffered over the last 20 years because of lack of home internationals imo , although there is still a lot of support and interest . The men’s soccer calendar is incredibly busy . I’m hoping that the Socceroos get 5-6 home games a year from now on .

That’s very sad news

Spain's World Cup final star given devastating news after winning goal

Stuart says “ Netherlands and Germany also walk away from the tournament disappointed. Early exists for both whilst sitting inside the top 10 on the FIFA women’s rankings was not what either had planned.“

The Netherlands are a top 10 , they made the final eight , on that logic they actually overachieved
they were undefeated in the group stages, they took eventual champions Spain to extra time and lost by one goal, their best player arsenals meidermeir was out with an acl . I never heard any expert tip them to do as well as did .

Mike
The Matildas played 21 home internationals in Australia between the 2019 – 2023 world cups.

A strong women’s us domestic competition is pretty important for football. A strong USA women’s team is so important commercially also.

The Matildas brand has growing in popularity for a few years Brett.
The players are well known now and increasingly popular. They appeal to a huge demographic of people . I’ve been around long enough to be sceptical of a lot of things, but this teams popularity is entrenched.
The other thing going for the Matildas is strong world competition. A popular team like our men’s cricket team has only 2 proper rivals in England and India and it’s hard to build that brand when they play against far inferior opponents. That’s just for the diehards .

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

Justice for what. England were better than the Matildas in every facet of the semi final. We all prefer to think Australia were angels on the field , gorry raso and a few others have made tactical fouls during this tournament.
I’d still rather be Lucy bronze in the final despite losing , and a be a 3 time winner of women’s champions league and euros winner .

Bittersweet finale to incredible tournament for Aussie fans as England schooled by masters of the dark arts

You make some good points but it’s too simplistic to say England play without skill and Spain without strength. It’s the combination of these and a host of other factors which determine a game . I was happy Spain won , but if Spain played England 10 times I think they would win 5 each . It’s also worth remembering that neither team was close to full strength last night as both had very important players not available for the tournament through late season injuries and other issues.
England have been developing far more skilled players the last 10 years which has seen them win under age 20s or 19s age group tournaments and seen their women win the euros and men’s team euro finalists and wc semis. Just recently Spain big club Real Madrid spent the house on an English kid called Jude Bellingham.young English Skilled Players like Saka and grealish are coming through regularly now , so I’d say England are certainly on the right pathway.

Bittersweet finale to incredible tournament for Aussie fans as England schooled by masters of the dark arts

In every soccer game ever played a coach has used his bench and brought a player not as good as his first 11 , from Ferguson guardiola to a local park coach, they think fresh legs fresh mind or change of shape can change the game. But apparently the Matilda’s coach doesn’t follow this trend.

It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

I agree that Is corporate sponsorship that’s more important, government can do something but ultimately government will have more important priorities then sports.

Nice recap of an absolutely brilliant tournament. FIFA should bring the women’s World Cup back to Australia in 8 years. I’m a bit sad it’s over. I totally enjoyed that final, and even the Sweden win over Australia was fantastic , just to see how good the Swedes are .

Bittersweet finale to incredible tournament for Aussie fans as England schooled by masters of the dark arts

How good was Sweden’s Kosovare Allani , Matilda’s need a similar player who is good on the ball and consistently making good decisions with her passing.
The decision making of the Matildas passing in this tournament was a bit shambolic at times when under pressure. That’s an area to improve on.

Classy Sweden deny Matildas third-placed finish as Gustavsson keeps status quo

Re allowing Foord to drop and help
It was so obvious in the last 2 games how easy the opposition could play through our central mids. I’m no expert, but surely the coaching staff can see this an address it

Classy Sweden deny Matildas third-placed finish as Gustavsson keeps status quo

That’s what losers do ??? I long for mature reasons rather than emotional statements about losers . Anyhow
Winners keep improving .
Great teams evaluate their coach. England sacked their coach that got them to the semis of the last World Cup because he was holding them back . There are thousands of examples of teams on the precipice of winning big that brought in better coaching to complete the process .

Classy Sweden deny Matildas third-placed finish as Gustavsson keeps status quo

That’s better then Italy Germany and Brazil

Classy Sweden deny Matildas third-placed finish as Gustavsson keeps status quo

True. But it was actually a chance for the coach to make some changes and put on a performance, but Sweden showed us the level we need to get to .
