"Football, bloody Hell"

Sadly not nearly as much,

I remember walking in to homeroom on the Monday after AUFC won the double, prepared to laugh at the Victory fans for a bit of fun – to which there was an astounding “nobody cares about the a-league”.

Having said that there are a few diehard A-League followers just not nearly as much in comparison to the EPL.

However that’s not to say these guys only follow the ‘top 6’. From memory I’ve seen Aston Vila, Huddersfield (YeahTheMooys is very popular) and West Ham.

Living in Melbourne, the A-League is less diverse with there being an even split from the Melbourne sides with the rare outsider.

I don’t think streaming is popular for the A-League amongst this demographic if only because they would simply gain the info they’re looking for elsewhere. But that’s not to say the medium itself is bad. Hell even in class – against the rules ? – guys have headphones in watching a highlight reel of not just Football but the NBA and NFL.

Am in this demographic ask away ?

Are football's TV ratings actually important?

Paul,

Whilst not the A-League: whenever I arrive at school in the mornings I see the same group of kids huddled over a computer in the locker area playing whatever EPL game just so happens to be playing in the morning.

The A-league isn’t played on screen in the morning due to the fact that they tend to know result or have seen it themselves on the weekend.

Streaming is popular amongst the demographic.

Is that necessarily his fault though? Or is it the talent’s fault for not putting together the performances needed?
You would think any good team regardless of who they were coached by could string together passes against a 9 men Adelaide side, or Berisha to score a penalty…

Not disagreeing with you by the way just want to generate discussion.

Who is under more pressure: John Aloisi or Kevin Muscat?

Bunch of fickle people aren’t we 😉

This does seem counter-intuitive to the FFA for wanting to grow Football by locking it to Foxtel.

The only response I can think is that perhaps the FFA were stubborn in their thinking when they put pen to paper in suggesting that traditional media will still be around? It could just be dismissed as a piece of bad business, much like the FTA deal football currently has.

Are football's TV ratings actually important?

Can confirm,

might be a minority here Nem but I couldn’t even tell you what content ONE is producing, I have Optus Sport, Foxtel Go and have been living off the IPad – TV now is just background noise for me.

Are football's TV ratings actually important?

Thing is Marco digital streaming is still developing.

Whilst other sports have been developing this for 12 months + as you have stated the idea I think people are getting at is that this gap is a lot smaller in comparison to the decade gap in FTA coverage.

Added in the decline of traditional media, it makes sense to try and join the ‘big leagues’ at the start (and whilst we are still playing catch up) in order to minimize the gap.

Are football's TV ratings actually important?

Couldn’t agree more,

Hell as much as I hate Optus Sport for taking the EPL there is definitely a lot of content on the website promoting the game; granted it is much easier to promote the EPL than the A-League but it speaks wonders that a digital content provider like Optus has put more effort to promote their product than Foxtel/Network 10 with the A-League.

I was meaning to write an article on this effect but Mid beat me to it (dammit); Free to Air for Football simply doesn’t work. Advertisers can’t benefit as nearly as much when compared to other sports which means the money football generates for FTAs is minuscule in comparison to the amount they paid for.

Nem,

What was your tipping point when suggesting that Muscat was finished?

You seemed pretty hesitant 3 weeks ago that there was a crisis at victory under Muscat.

Cheers 🙂

Is anyone really surprised by this?

I’d be interested in hearing a city fan’s view on the issue. Whether they saw this coming or not.

Tim Cahill leaves Melbourne City with Russia 2018 on the horizon

The home crowd advantage can only really work if there is a large enough home crowd otherwise the distinction is meaningless.

Sure one can argue familiarity of the pitch but I think that after 10 years all of the a-league knows what it’s like to play at x ground.

Is playing away from home now an advantage?

Carlo Anceloti turned down the Italian job – perhaps he fancies himself in the land down under? ?

Postecoglou resignation just another challenge for FFA

The best marketing campaign should be one that takes advantage of two things:

1. Australia’s underdog culture (football is by no means a traditional sport in Australia – capitalise on this).

And 2. Form an extremely strong local connection to the club – the you’ve gotta have a team campaign was close but this needs to be ramped up considerably.

The author raised WSW as an example – surely a marketing campaign that aims to mimic this (be it through creating more fan involvement – even for casuals) across Australia will lead to more interest in ththe Oz Football.

How to stop the Eurosnob

If what I’m reading is correct,

Does the author suggest Cahil buckle down at City to secure a title?

Whilst all well and good it’s not like Joyce and Cahill are on good terms if we are to believe the media. Further, it appears Cahil wants more first team action in order to prep for the World Cup – if he isn’t getting that at city why would he (and any player really) stay and win domestically?

Cahill must get his priorities straight before the curtain comes down

Victory are treading down a dangerous path if they continue to perform like this.

I get that they were in a similar position last year and placed 2nd but even so as much as Muscat claims ‘referee consistency’ Miligan’s red suggests deeper issues.

I understand that it is still early in the season but surely people would be having questions at this point??

Milligan sees red as Jets thump Victory

That is concerning,

It’s a shame the football higher ups won’t market what could arguably be the best way to get future growth and interest in the A-league.

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

This seems to be the general conclusion that has been drawn 🙂

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

Ian, I only say this due to the high number of fans who likely are used to success and would like to see this happen again.

Nem, yes the a-league is a long season. But what are your thoughts on the psychological impacts of having to play ‘do or die’ for the rest of the season so soon after last?

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

Although this is no excuse for a club with high standards like Victory.

Victory’s form currently and last season forced them to play with no room for error.

I feel that being placed in that situation a second time could cause unnecessary pressure on the squad.

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

City simply because it was one of the ‘top teams’ that came to mind when replying.

I forgot about their lacklustre form as of late ?

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

Yeah fair enough;

It’s interesting how the media like to blow information up when completely ignoring past results.

Squad depth has most likely caused a dip in performance

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

Waz

Surely an early slump of not gaining the full 3 points would suggest problems in the side?

I’m not saying Victory are in a crisis, I’m saying that unless action is taken soon to convert these lost opportunities into wins then it may negatively impact on them further.

I guess this could also be applied to the other clubs still being in “preseason mode”; from my perspective victory are stuck in this more than other sides.

Does this create a crisis? Admittedly no, but the article never said victory were just unless action is taken they could find themselves in a less than favourable position.

Is there truly a crisis at Victory?

My thoughts exactly; no room for error and capitalise on any mistakes that sydney or city make.
