Absolutely, competing with that level of physicality at club/ provincial level is necessary for rugby in the Pacific to improve. Knowing and remedying your weaknesses is vital in most businesses including pro sport.
All I know is as a fan I will be watching and cheering on the Chiefs if they are good enough to make it, Cheers.

'I'm a big fan': Kiss throws weight behind Club World Cup as Europe and Super Rugby agree to new tournament

I believe that matches would be competitive. South African teams did well in URC and Europe and their teams were of similar quality to the rest of super rugby when they all played together.
My two cents worth is that pacific teams need to test themselves against the best. There is nothing to be gained by lying to ourselves.

THE GREATEST! Boks beat All Blacks in instant classic to claim record FOURTH RWC in controversial, dramatic final

I don’t normally comment on a Sunday (try to keep screen free) but congratulations Springboks and fans, your team team worked to their strengths, took their chances and won the day.
I don’t agree with the Author’s suggestion that this match was a classic, but it is definitely a meaningful chapter in the rivalry of our great teams and I look forward to the next game.

I get that your joking, but I wouldn’t want to encourage that.
I get that the people paid for their tickets and can cheer, boo or sing through whatever they choose but others who bought tickets wanting to see and hear the haka as part of the experience were ripped off. A bit of respect for those fans and the players, including Irish players that wanted to face the haka, would have been good.
It was a shame as well because I thought that the Irish crowds really brought a lot of energy to the world cup.

Perhaps bonus points to the team that sings their anthem best, a final between Fiji and Wales would be delightful.

'It will kill rugby': Minnows feel shafted as World Rugby hails 'historic' revamp with exclusive Nations Championship

Logistically I don’t see any other way to make it work. This would mean that we in the southern hemisphere would only play 1 rugby championship with home and away fixtures every 4 years (assuming world cup years continue to be truncated). It would also mean that European tier two teams would be locked out even if there is promotion and relegation as it wouldn’t make sense for them to be in the rugby championship. I am only assuming that this is how it would work though.

Being a former forward I don’t really understand how the backline works but I can’t understand why Christie and Roigard are there while Weber isn’t.
Watching Saturdays game I thought the difference in play speed was noticeable when Christie was replaced, I also thought Weber had a better Super Rugby campaign.
Is there something I’m missing, is there a game plan that Christie is better able to carry out? I’m stumped at this selection and have been this Rugby Championship to be honest.
But other than that, and maybe swapping Finau for one of the wingers, fairly happy with the squad I like the experience of the team. Kia Kaha bring it home.

All Blacks CONFIRMED: Fozzie's HUGE Rugby World Cup gamble, Retallick to miss France opener

Cheers champion, it’s great to see creativity and enthusiasm on this site. In my experience those traits create opportunities and can’t be taught.

I like what you’ve said but some leagues clubs would rather embrace a wasps nest than change.

While your article offers an interesting direction for both rugby codes, I also think that it is important for rugby Australia to stand on their own two feet and create a long term plan for success.

All the best mate, cheers.

Unleashing Australia's Rugby World Cup potential: NRL to the rescue

Barry, this is no joke a genuine conversation I had with my brother after a few beers. There is something to nrl and rugby Australia working together, a code with a strong domestic presence and a similar code that’s strong internationally should be able to work together for a common good.
But my brother and I figured out one glaring problem, nrl clubs. Having players play test matches is against their interests. What would be in it for them to let their players jump to another code and possibly get injured? They would never go for it. But I enjoyed the article, cheers.

This was a good fun game to watch, seeing Quade and Radradra running free in an exhibition match was brilliant. Also happy that most comments here have ignored the title and focused on the match. Keep Calm and watch Rugby. KCR

Folau booed by Twickenham crowd, Kerevi injury scare, but sun shines on Eddie as BaaBaas down World XV

Yeah it’s an interesting topic, there is no magic formula for a successful new pro sports entity. I agree that the NRL has to consider the financial stability of a new team before giving them the green light, thus limiting the bids that they receive.

My 2 cents worth, a new club has to show that they are financially secure and that they can capture the hearts and minds of there supporters. This has a lot to do with the clubs and the communities in which thy reside. A club like the Bears could move to Perth easily enough, but they could never represent a team in QLD. A new team has to know their community and what is possible, I believe that this is where existing clubs have an advantage as they are a part of their communities and they should know who they can and who they can’t represent, they just have to pay attention to their members and the people they want to represent.

It’s still early days I am sure that there will be more bids, I think I might grab some popcorn and watch.
Cheers, Rob9.

NRL faces philosophical question as expansion race heats up with new Brisbane bid throwing down gauntlet to rivals

You’re absolutely right about the sunny coast stadium that would definitely make sports like the nrl and a league take notice. I guess I am remembering the Sunshine Coast as they were about a decade ago. I am happy to here that the game is doing well there and don’t mind admitting that I was wrong about them, that’s how you learn. If they were to put in a bid they would definitely be worth considering.
Although more bids is always a good thing, the game can never have too much choice. I am interested in your opinion whether or not the Dolphins success would lead the NRL to value bids attached to well off leagues clubs over brand new franchises.
As for magic round it was only a blip on the radar for the sharks. They’ve put together an impressive team that will go well into the post season.
Gotta love your league, cheers.

NRL faces philosophical question as expansion race heats up with new Brisbane bid throwing down gauntlet to rivals

Rob9, you’re not still upset about the sharks game are you, what more do the dolphins need to do to show that they shouldbe there? Just kidding, we’ve definitely had disagreements regarding the 17th team but as you said it’s in the past. I agree with you that Perth is the 18th team. However the tigerhawks are a good shot for 19. By then they should have finished their stadium and high performance centre, what they need to do is invest in Booval and show that they are a part of the West, win the hearts and minds of the people out that way.

I think that a combined bears WA bid has loads of potential. The Bears claim to have over 200 0000 supporters in Sydney plus a junior system and Perth has state of the art facilities and is the 4th biggest city in Australia.

As for the Sunshine Coast, they have not done the leg work to have an NRL team. They looked to be a really struggling between Manly leaving and the Storm showing up. At the moment they need to be propped up by an NRL team.

This game was a lot closer than it had any right to be. If the Dolphins can continue to improve and take advantage of opportunities, these tight losses will become regular victories. After all an enthusiastic group that never gives up is a pretty great platform to build from. Let’s go Redcliffe

The battle for Brisbane no one saw coming: Undefeated Queensland teams in a derby of unexpected importance

Great article but have to disagree on one point. The ref didn’t gift the All Blacks victory. They could have still found a 1000 ways to lose.
I agree it is a shame that 79 good minutes will be forgotten.
After this call I am of the opinion that extra time should return to rugby as a way of combating time wasting without having to stop the clock or free kicks, what’s your thoughts? Cheers for the article.

When rugby context and common sense are trumped

Or the ref notes how much time is wasted and we go back to extra time, like the amateur days.

When rugby context and common sense are trumped

In the amateur and early professional days the referee would take note of injury time and add it to the end of the game, as soccer does. Perhaps bringing back extra time for time wasting, injuries, penalties etc would be the answer.

Stop the clock: Calling time on rugby union

Absolutely a balance has to be found in southern hemisphere rugby. After all we don’t want to be developing talent to send overseas. Hopefully the people running the game here are working to develop and retain talent. Cheers

SANZAAR and Super Rugby need to be ripped up and pieced back together

The short season probably worked better in the old days when the super 12 was clearly the strongest provincial comp and the NPC was not far behind most pro competitions. That hasn’t been the case for some time. I don’t know what the answer is, do they start looking for a teir between super and and test rugby a state of origin or North Island vs South Island? That is not a suggestion more of a question. I hope that the people in charge get it right.
I wouldn’t say that Super rugby level players in the NPC and club comps helps no one as the next generation of rugby players would definitely learn a lot playing beside and against professional standard rugby players.
