What a comprehensively good analysis of the Swans. I will tell all of my friends who are bloods followers to read it

Sydney are set to turn Dan Hannebery's departure into a big win

Very Interesting, but I don’t think that the statistics will determine the result of the game.
If the Roosters can control Fifita, their backline will be too slick for the Sharks and will score more heavily.

I predict a final score of 18 -10 Roosters with tries by Tupou, Ferguson and Tedesco.

By the way I am a lousy tipster.

Roosters vs Sharks: The ultra definitive stats preview

I enjoyed your article and after last night how can you argue against Richmond repeating last years win. Dustin Martin’s form is peaking just in time and their defensive preassure is awesome.

Hawthorn’s defence could not clear the ball and always seemed rushed. It will take a calm organised defence to have any chance.

Mega finals preview column: Who can topple the Tiges?

Great article Adam.
Why must we put up with drunken footballers displaying all in the guise of “good clean fun”.
It is certainly not good, absolutely not clean and maybe fun if you are so sozzled that you can’t remember taking all your clothes off.
Never mind the image to the game. I can’t judge that but I am embarrassed to see footballers behave like yahoos. Will they ever learn?, Todd Carney and Mitchell Pearce are our role models for this stupid behaviour.

Great article. The humble offy usually pales next to its glamorous brother the leg spinner, but this article shows how the greats bowl it. The many test wickets it takes are testament to its place in the cricket world.

What makes a great offie?

I am a little less excited than Lynton at our prospects for summer. We have a new team, a new captain and coach. I think we will beat India. Their away record is worth than ours.
But with lack of experience comes inconsistency. I expect that our bowling will hold up but our batting will be up and down. We will miss Smith and Warner but welcome Swepson and Renshaw.

The fact that you picked no rooster forwards is an indication that your radar is wonky. No team with as many wins as the Roosters can get that far without significant contributions from their forwards.

Backs are onl;y as good as their forwrds. Just wait and see.

NRL team of the week Round 25

Because of the nature of AFL there is no doubt that the best team wins the vast majority of games. So Tim’s arguments justifying the MCG are self evident.

The point is that the AFL have a number of reasons to keep the Grand Final at the MCG. Money. prestige, history and an extraordinary decision to keep it at the MCG for the next 25 years are some of them.

The NRL does the same thing with ANZ stadium and their grand final. Wembly also with the FA cup final This also does not make it right or fair.

Grand finals are not common events worldwide. They seem peculiarly Australian.

Years ago with AFL there were few stadiums Australia wide who could host a grand final with a crowd of over 40,000 now there are at least 5 and more are coming every year.

The AFL should not be so insular and let the showpiece of AFL be played at a nominated large venue notified 5 years in advance like the Super Bowl. I should be irrelevant what teams are in the Grand Final.

Grand Finals at the MCG are unfair? That's rubbish

After losing both games by huge margins, I was depressed before I started reading your article. After I finished I was ready for the funny farm.

I have beem reading your articles for years and never fail to feel that the end is nigh after finishing them.

Instead of white hot criticism can we have some constructive comments?. Honestly a panel of wise men was OK in biblical times. Probably not going to work in Rugby in 2018/9.

The Australian rugby system is the problem, not just Michael Cheika

Can the Waratahs keep it up next year. Their last year’s resurgence was completely unexpected.

Now all we need is decent crowds and good attacking football.

Am I the only one who loved the Fox coverage of the Supercars. Last weekends inaugural meeting at Tailem Bend.

The coverage of the supercars is first class and shows how proficient we and especially Fox are at presenting Motor Sport.

All comentators without exception are experts in the field and even Mark Larkham’s pit side rambles are informative and often amusing.

The drivers are all media savvy and give intelligent answers to equally intelligent questions. None of the “how do you feel?” that seem to swamp AFL and Rugby telecasts.

Supercars The Bend SuperSprint talking points

I think that we should give our spin bowlers as much exposure to sub continent conditions (especially wrist spinners). The selectors should sticking with Swepson for short form and Test cricket. Experience is the best teacher. Give him time and persevere.

Labuschagne, Swepson and Renshaw star for Australia A

I wrote an article 2 weeks ago bemoaning our terrible performances in the games against the All Blacks.

Guess what ? The nightmare has come back. Game 1 outclassed. Game 2 outclassed.

My solution New Zealand pick an under 15 team. We get 10 points start per half and our tries are worth 10 and our goals 6. Can we still win. I am not sure.

Brilliant Beauden Barrett bags All Blacks another Bledisloe Cup

If the aim of the penalty is to keep him off the football field 10 years is long enough. Any longer in my opinion is harsh and oppressive.

For John Hopoate, a ten-year ban just isn't enough

Sorry about my mistake about David King.

I did not have room for Nick Riewoldt who with Bob is the best new talent. He handled his hosting of AFL 360 when Robbo went walk about calmly and efficiently.

I don’t think that reducing the number of games is the answer to cutting down injuries. Just remember how many serious injuries are caused at training.

Similarly the interchange reduction is based on a false premises that as players get tired the game gets better. That crazy thinking must have been thought up by Monty Python.

The problem is far more fundamental; the human body breaks down when it is asked to do the sort of things on a football field that the coaches require. Players having to run over 10k a game with minimal recovery time is how knees break down. Violent changes of direction under stress seem to cause most of the knee injuries. Collision damage is a different question and can’t be avoided if the game is played at intensity. I think that we just have to accept that.

The football codes should all get together (some chance?) and agree to fund a high level medical project to determine what can be done to try to strengthen those parts of the body that are breaking down.
