Pies biggest vulnerability is a forward line that is able to capitalise on when Pies are being beaten in the middle. So far Pies defence has held up pretty well and is damaging on the counterattacks.
Swans have a talented firing forward line, skilful running game out of defence and strong midfield. Im thinking the Pies will only win this one by 2 points.

Double chance up for grabs as Swans and Pies clash in another pre-finals blockbuster

Rowdy are you able to give an astrological reading on how it could be the 2 Josh Ks have retired in the same week…..and both not that dissimilar in their great achievements, standing and low fuss approach in the game. I think it’s ok if you need to pull out the tarot cards for this one.

Swans legend retires: Hamstring woes force Kennedy to bring down curtain on career

Of his time he was the best midfield bull in his prime. Amazing legacy he has come from and one he will leave with the Swans.
The 2 Josh Ks retiring in the same week, both outstanding unassuming champions.

Their reputations are fine, people can see through the excessive PC nonsense and club pr spin.

Collingwood’s triumph over adversity: Six reasons why they can go all the way

Great summary of the Pies strength but I’m not convinced Grundy is one of them though. Hope I’m proved wrong because if he rediscovered career best form he could be the difference in the midfield, but that seems a very distant memory at this stage. Would be very hesitant to drop Cox, he’s improving in the ruck and is capable of cutting loose up forward.
(Just read Brodie’s out for the year)
Love what Jack Ginnivan brings but Ollie Henry must be really vying for his position, also given that it’s against the latest rules to give Jack any frees.
It’s a wild and fantastic ride being a Pies supporter, absolutely anything is possible and we can beat anyone.
Pies won’t fear any team but will be more challenged against a side with a quality tall forward like Lynch as when Tiges belted us last time.
And also Geelong looked really strong and composed through the middle last we played them after initially we were running rings around them…and they then opened up our defence with their quality forwards.
Pies have improved a lot since those matches so here’s hoping!
Swans will be a huge test this week.

Collingwood’s triumph over adversity: Six reasons why they can go all the way

What’s your idea of exciting footy Timbo? Loving how Pies are playing (biased of course), great pressure tackling plus wonderful skills. Tackling has always been one of the most important and fundamental elements of Australian Rules footy. Pies 2021 was boring and ultra defensive footy.
Richmond v Geelong GF was good quality footy, Cats couldn’t keep up in the end.

Six Points: Eddie Betts' powerful point gets lost in camp fiasco, and Cripps must get two weeks

Bucks defensiveness became way too much and almost impossible to watch, but yes he’s definitely contributed to this team. Darcy Moore made a good point how too many senior players were injured/missing last year….so Bucks hands were tied to some extent. He definitely had his mojo and the balance right in 2018…but even that year (including GF) and every other year he was hampered by injuries.

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Langdon wasn't wrong... but the Pies' 'one trick' is just that good

Dees are definitely missing Todd McDonald up forward but they can’t complain with their dream run of minimal injuries last year.
Pies had absent from their original team this year first choice ruckman in Grundy, first choice fullback in Roughead, most likely their first choice full forward in Kruger, and their no 1 midfield bull in Adams, plus a couple of other young fellas from their list.
The problem for the Dees last night wasn’t so much their forwards, it’s that they were beaten in the middle in the second half when the heat was really on. (As they were in the Queen’s bday match as well). DeGoey was easily the stand out midfield bull against the Dees top notch 3.
A lot of the Dees scoring opportunities in the first half came from Collingwood taking the game on at full throttle and creating some brilliant play along with opportunities for turnovers. And then Dees did definitely gain momentum and dominated from the centre until the Pies wrested the momentum back – which is a huge plus for this evolving team.
Dees fans should not be giving up, they are definitely still premiership material. But can understand that terrible feeling of being served up burnt roast duck!

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Langdon wasn't wrong... but the Pies' 'one trick' is just that good

Nothing in it other than good physical pressure. Langdon made his statement, Pies made a quick and timely response.

'There's his duck dinner!' Pies take 19 seconds to get their revenge on Ed Langdon

“The remarkable part about every stat is that Melbourne remained dominant – yet the Pies had the edge in scores from said stats”
Stats are useful but generally overrated.

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Langdon wasn't wrong... but the Pies' 'one trick' is just that good

So many great gut busting performances tonight and exciting to watch that young talent keep coming through, especially Ash Johnson tonight. And the steady old hands leading the way beautifully. Genuine team effort again but DeGoey was huge when it counted, as was Steak Knives Crisp. Cox did very well in the ruck.

There no-one quite as “stunning and brave” as us key board worriers Ben. But it’s credit to humanity that such a simplistic outlook on life standing atop a wobbly and fragile moral soap box can generate a interesting discussion.
The Adam Goodes debacle was definitely largely about and driven by racism. This is even more obvious when you read the rabbish about how other footballers receive a hard time from the crowd but don’t retaliate or respond in the same way. Seems some people seem concerned when an Aboriginal man speaks up for himself and not towing the rabbish warm and fuzzy lines of a “comfortable and relaxed Australia”, especially if he starts throwing those really dangerous imaginary spears!
Not sure of the depths of your selective biases but if you do a little bit of research on the history of treatment of Indigenous peoples in NSW and QLD, rugby league heartland, you’ll find it’s as brutal as the rest of the continent.

Six Points: Crows can't hide from racism any longer, and no need to panic, Blues fans... yet

He’s no doubt a “heart and soul” type player though and a genuine leader of the club, and pivotal to Melbourne’s midfield bull game plan that’s been so successful. Would love him at Collingwood. I see the other 2 at another level but he definitely makes their roles easier. Petraka is still Dees most important player imo.

Congratulations Ben you can actually string more than two words together. See you enjoy plucking stats out of your backside. We’re working on our issues around racism, how are you going with your homophobic issues?

Six Points: Crows can't hide from racism any longer, and no need to panic, Blues fans... yet

Would gladly see Mundy bow out with a premiership. Almost a decade ago he tore the game apart in the 3rd quarter of the grand final against Hawthorn but unfortunately Freo couldn’t go on with it.

AFL News: Dockers stalwart calls time, Saad responds to racial slur

The monkey on Brisbane’s MCG / finals back just turned into a gorilla. Will take some heavy lifting from here on in to dislodge it.

I’ve felt Voss will have Blues peaking for the finals even if they just sneek in but hopefully they don’t get past Pies in round 23 and/or finals.

Six Points: Crows can't hide from racism any longer, and no need to panic, Blues fans... yet

but the lights are never on!

Six Points: Crows can't hide from racism any longer, and no need to panic, Blues fans... yet

I first saw a version of that statement from Alan Alda back in his MASH days Peter. I reckon it’s a beauty and it sums up the Pies run of late. They’ve laid a great foundation for the coming years as the young talent keeps developing….and they should keep going hell for leather this year and who knows….

AFL Saturday Study: Here's how the Magpies won ANOTHER thriller... and why none of it was just luck

Good write up Tim, well observed and explained.
The harder we work the luckier we get, and can certainly tell Collingwood have been putting the hard yards into their training and their game plans.
Quite amazing they’re already guaranteed a spot in the finals. Huge credit to the club’s effort to improve their culture, and to their new coaching staff for such a dramatic turn around in such a short time. Fly has to be right up there as coach of the year.
You can’t quantify the faith players have in each other or team spirit or simple old g&d and how huge an impact these have had on the Pies so far. Plenty of talent there too. Also plenty of room for growth and development but geez it’s exciting seeing this team evolve.

Fair point, Lethal or ………….?
Reckon I just might stick with Lethal somehow.

AFL News: Ginnivan deserved free but initiated contact, Hawkins to play on, COVID hits North, Greene to repair image

Lethal Leigh is just about the most respected commentator in the game. Said fabric of game is being attacked, and he was obviously pretty disappointed re Ginnavin being both targeted and neglected.
Fickle AFL change the rules at a whim with their panicky knee jerk reactions. No middle ground, one extreme to the other.

AFL News: Ginnivan deserved free but initiated contact, Hawkins to play on, COVID hits North, Greene to repair image

Good article Les.
Hypocrisy of the AFL to say they want to protect the players head.

The vilification of Jack Ginnivan

Ditto above, but I’ll take your word for it

Six Points: Time to crack down on Tomahawk's tactic, and why this Kangaroo deserves an All-Australian gig

Fair point, and haven’t watched much for a while apart from the big games. AFLs knee jerk reactions on the run are another level though
