“A decision was taken by the integrity unit and supported by the board to keep this in house,” Taylor told the Nine Network. When they made this decision, one wonders if Taylor and his fellow board members considered the possibility of the woman releasing the texts/pics?

“Four years of hindsight is a wonderful thing” – Taylor is in damage control. He knows he and his board members made the wrong decision at the time. He should be honest and admit his mistake

I saw that dismissal live. Interestingly, Patto did not swing the ball much before or after that delivery
This utter SEED from James Pattinson will already be hard to beat for ball of the summer
Yep. Amazing that Paine has not been removed from the squad yet
What does the Tim Paine scandal mean for Australia? Five burning questions after captain's bombshell
Pick your best players regardless of whether they are left-handers or right-handers. Richardson is a better option than Starc – not because he is a right-hander but because he bowls more often around the top of off than does Starc. And Carey is a better option than Paine not because he is a left-hander but because he is a better batsman than Paine, while their keeping abilities are similar. The main reason why the Aussies were beaten by the Indians last summer was that the Aussie quicks bowled too short – they did not bowl about the top-of-off length as often as the Indian quicks.
Why the Ashes will be a closer contest than most think
Crone’s ball to Edwards was just as good

If Paine had not been the captain when the squad was announced would he have been selected? Nope – because there are better keeper/batsman options. So turn Paine’s resignation into a good impact on our Ashes prospects, by removing him from the squad now and replacing him with Carey.

Spot on Travis – well said. Let’s hope the selectors remove Paine from the test squad

Actually, these guys are strong characters. They can cry in the public eye and not only do it behind closed doors (like everyone else)

On the texts – yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn. But the fact that he resigned from the captaincy gives us the opportunity to replace him and that is the interesting part of this story. I would go with Carey as he has more experience in the international arena than the other possibles (Inglis, Peirson, and Nielsen) and seems to have leadership qualities. Cummins can be captain and Carey vc. Should Smith captain? Nope – it would not look good appointing a guy who behaved like Smith did to replace Paine. We need a leadership team who has (hopefully) no “skeletons in their closets”

Let’s hope the winning spirit and determined attitude shown by the T20 team translates into the test arena but let’s also hope the batting techniques and level of patience, required in the T20 arena do not translate into the test arena. We do not want those slogs like Wade played to get out in the Indian series for example. Test players must be patient and play sensibly. That’s our best chance of winning the tests
The mantra that shaped Australia’s World Cup triumph
I thank Berry for providing motivation for our guys to beat the Poms this summer, but they don’t need it. I reckon Michael Vaughan is taking the p***. Surely he can’t be serious.
Ashes Scout: Richardson backed for key role, UK scribe asks if Smith is 'past his superlative best?'
Cartwright certainly has the talent but has not done enough for selection. He would have to do well with the bat in the Shield for a good period before he can be considered. He sure has a batting technique that is better suited to the test game than is MM’s. The incumbent No. 5, namely Wade, looks like being replaced by Khawaja rather than Head. I think that is best given Khawaja’s seemingly cooler head and more experience.
Could Hilton Cartwright be recalled for the Ashes?

It will be interesting to see if the Aussie quicks bowl too short in the Ashes tests. The Indians bowled better lengths than us in the recent test series – especially in the Brissie test. Have the Aussie quicks learned?
