The game I was watching was a game where there were too many wasted opportunities in their final third. It was fine against Brisbane who could defend for only so long however it’s unlikely to work against Newcastle who are more likely to punish them.

Joyce demands City improvement for Jets semi

I agree with Joyce and I feel that City were actually unconvincing. They should’ve won 5-0 last night and if they replicate that performance in Newcastle they will not be going to the big show.

Brilliant! ??

Brisbane Roar: The musical!

Fadida, I also saw far more advertising and engagement for that last CCM game than almost any previous. That tied with it being Theo’s farewell would boost crowd numbers.

I think you are a little off with your theory there.

Class is somewhat debatable but form is everything

How close do you think that was to a foul on Arzarni as he was pushing through. Looked to be held back IMO.

Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne City: A-League live scores, blog

A bit 50 50. Yes we were lucky to draw, however I hate analysis that look at times the opposition should have scored as a black mark on us, times where we should have scored as a black mark on us. etc. etc.

I feel there are concerning aspects, however I’m going to wait until just before the world cup finals and the 4 friends are finished before I argue if they are legitimate or not.

The rubbish about essentially having no positives is just that. Rubbish.

Lucky Socceroos get result to boost belief

Quite like the home kit and prefer the away without the stripe.

Not the first time we’ve heard that!

Great to see. Is it a faster counter than we were used to under Ange?

BvM holding back on the substitutions today.

It will be interesting to hear how many people say Columbia don’t deserve to be at the world cup. Missing easy goals and not scoring against Australia after 66 minutes 😉

Moody injured apparently.

Because international friendlies are better preparation than friendlies played in Australia?

What sort of team do we want the Socceroos to be?

Do we not have 4 friendlies booked in?

2 from here.

Melbourne Victory can't win the A-League, can they?

This. Is there truely no other options?

His actual management has shown many weaknesses recently.

Arnold confirmed as post-World Cup Socceroos boss

Looked like the correct decision to me.

Ten-man Jets humble champions Sydney FC

Melbourne Victory….biggest club in the land!

Ooops.

Are unisex double-headers the future of Australian football?

If you want to attract children, you probably should.

Are these top tier summer sports with high paticipation rates?

Are unisex double-headers the future of Australian football?

Agree. It makes it a minimum 5 hours which means the following:

– Games start too early on a Friday to get to.
– if not too early, they would be finishing at midnight at the earliest.
– games on a Saturday would likely interact with those playing in their own leagues more, or, as stated earlier, finish too late. This is important for the sport with the highest paticipation, although less important as there are less summer leagues. There is also the heat issue.
– Sunday has the heat and late finish issue as well as the participation issue.

Rugby League doesn’t have the heat issue and has far less of a paticipation issue.

Unfortunately Kris, I feel summer is the best outcome. It allows the women who are good enough for the MWSL to play all year to ensure they get paid enough to make it worthwhile. This I feel is very important and gives the Matildas an edge.

I think Brisbane had all but one home game as a double header.

Are unisex double-headers the future of Australian football?

Whilst I agree there needs to be blue sky thinking and better promotion of the women’s game (heck even the men’s game) and I feel we need to have more vision and guts to push the boundaries, I’m not 100% sure double headers are the way to achieve this. I’ve heard quite a few complaints about how early the double headers have to start (particularly on a Friday) or, if the reverse, how late they would finish.

I think at the very least, you could have every team have a men’s, women’s and youth league (sorry Wellington). Then you can have a trophy for the team that has performed best over all 3 leagues. If one league has less games, (I still think we need to fit in with the NWSL for now) increase their points proportionally. This may make spectators keep an eye on the games more, increase media and even make the club’s think about their approach.

Thanks for the thought provoking article.
