Happy for him. There’s hopefully is a national call up in the reckoning at least for the 50 overs team for him. Led admirably in the BBL games for the Strikers too.

The white ball summer belonged to Matt Short

I have reservations with the title. The first 2 tests were not on raging turners at all. They were typical Indian wickets. A turner in India, the horror!

Pitch craft: India’s late switch set to pay dividends with Aussies facing another raging turner

The fact that all this pitch talk is getting to the head of the coaching staff is the red flag for me. After the game, Macdonald called these as “extreme conditions” and they were anything but. It was apparent to everyone post game that Australia had just psyched themselves with the gremlins in the pitch. It would augur well for the team to have a strict “no whinging” policy and get on with playing whats on offer. If it is dangerous the umpires, match referee will step in.
Let the pitch talk just remain as noise in the media and not let it distract you.

Pitch doctoring: Blatant cheating demanding punishment or a media blow up?

Very true re his sympathy towards his great mate Justin Langer. It is apparent that this is always going to cloud his judgement of the current regime and I think he will nitpick and be overtly critical. In fact the parallel I kept thinking of was Kim Hughes having to deal with Ian Chappell as the Channel 9 expert constantly.
In fact, he has also been with the Pakistan team in a coaching role in the last world cup, so has a lot to offer as perspective on the workings of modern teams. Hope Hayden sorts it out and have a rethink.

Hey, Hey it’s Hayden: Former opener’s boorish commentary style from a bygone era should stay there

What “extreme conditions” 😂 ! I am afraid Macdonald is only going to be in for worse if they come up against a rank turner. This one was far from it!
I think the Aussie team and especially the think tank should just have a no-whinge policy! Just get on with playing on whatevers offered. All this pitch talk just seems to spook the team currently.

Healy slams 'pathetic' Indian act, Test legend questions 'murky' Warner call

Don’t really blame Cummin’s lip service but it’s at best just him defending his players in public.
They should however think of the balance. I don’t think it makes sense playing 2 offies. Murphy now has to play, meaning Lyon would need to make way for Agar.
Head has to come in, in place of Renshaw. Australia missed a good 3rd spinner.
Do not understand why Agar is there if he is going to be superseded by Kuhnemann. Cannot be good for the confidence.

Spin bolter a 'live chance' to play, Head set to replace Warner as Cummins defends controversial selections

You are correct mate. Big boof was probably the last legit “test regular” batsman. Head has probably been our next best and hence, the disappointment of missing out undeservedly!

Renshaw (and Warner) over Head joins the pantheon of Aussie selection howlers

I can’t help feel there is a lot of eastern states bias in the selection process.
If they wanted to play Handscomb, then he should have played instead of Renshaw. Head should have surely been a shoo in! I also think they should have accommodated Agar in the side, can’t believe they went in with 2 offies.
Murphy does look the part and will definitely get more chances to shine post Lyon.

Renshaw (and Warner) over Head joins the pantheon of Aussie selection howlers

What more does Travis Head need to do! Incredible eastern states bias. Same rule about bad record in India don’t count against Warner and co

'Hard to believe': Steve Waugh stunned by Head case as Aussies collapse, Warner on last legs - Talking Points

Lol how is that going over! Supersport have form focusing on touring party primarily. At no stage, has the stump mic been turned up when the South Africans were in the field. The Pant – Van Dussen chatter was barely audible on the stump mic.
That being said, Kohli should have rallied his team better, no need to lose it. He can’t act like a crying baby throwing toys from his pram 😂

Cricket Australia is well within their rights to withdraw the invitation for Afghanistan’s test match. I would argue, they should withdraw it pending an ICC decision.
In an ideal world the ICC on their part should remove Aghanistan’s test status, till they actually field a women’s team.

Don't isolate us, Afghan cricket pleads

I don’t really blame the players. They were clearly close contacts of an infected case. Here in Oz that alone would have pushed them into quarantine.
What is not a good look however, is everyone scooting off to Dubai on the first possible chance, that does make people wonder if the players would have taken the same call if this happened in the IPL, as they are clearly wanting to play there.

The ICC need to sort out their priorities after the cancelled England-India Test

That is an interesting take. Would they have taken the same decision if they were 1 down in the series for example?
I hope that did not drive the Indians decision making as their concerns seem quite legitimate on the surface of it. However, that did not stop them from scooting off the Dubai as soon as the test was cancelled and don’t think anyone has tested positive yet (thankfully).

The ICC need to sort out their priorities after the cancelled England-India Test

I understand your criticism of Kohli and Indian team however I can’t imagine this is unique only for Kohli. In this modern age, it is unrealistic to expect a captain to criticise his team in public or address shortcomings in performance publicly. A captain is just going to be “positive” and not show weakness.
India have been very lucky in finding runs from the lower order and their bowling is performing beautifully and has kept rescuing them. We’ll never truly know but if England had even Ben Stokes, they would be have put this series to bed by now.

Virat Kohli should be a politician

No don’t be sorry mate. I just hadn’t heard that one before. Is that an expression commonly used in the sub-continent? 😊

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

Great article this. Its hard to imagine Rohit Sharma has been around the team and talked of even before Kohli! He has been the only batsman, other than Root that has looked solid and comfortable. Sounds like he has put in his hard yards and getting rewards for it, which is awesome.
PS – Sorry for my ignorance, but what is SENA?

Rohit Sharma finally becomes the batsman we all thought he could be

Great summary of an absorbing game Paul.
Absolutely agree regarding Thakur. I was surprised he didn’t get the MOM award.
I don’t quite agree on your take re Jadeja, he held up an end and allowed Kohli to rotate the quicks around. He is not a match winning spinner like Ashwin, but an able support act, which seems to be good enough for the Indians at the moment.
I won’t be surprised if India drop Siraj for Shami and if (and a big if knowing Kohli) they do drop Rahane it will be for Ashwin.

Catches don’t win matches: Takes from the fourth England-India Test

Virat does not do pondering 😂 He did have a dream day as captain yesterday though and always seemed to be ahead of the play. Rotated bowlers beautifully and I think the Indian bowling attack gave a masterclass to the England bowlers on how to bowl on an unhelpful surface.

England collapse to Test defeat by India

Flat pitch. Hot day. That spell from Bumrah was something else. Also, Thakur with his crucial runs and wickets (got Root too! ) was brilliant.
India have issues. Kohli/Rahane/Pant not firing big, they were carrying Siraj (should have played Ashwin instead) but still keep finding enough runs and wickets.
The hallmark of a good team is when they win even when they are not at their best, I think India is a very good team at the moment.

England collapse to Test defeat by India

India’s batsman are really tentative and batting poorly at the moment, but in all this is getting overlooked is just the quality of England’s bowling. There is just no weak link and yesterday in particular I would say more credit to England as they have been too good with the ball.
Hard to see both Rahane and Pujara staying for the next test if they keep playing like this. I hope Rahane just opens up and bats naturally in the 2nd digs.

Batting failures in England: India keeps doing the same thing and achieving the same result

😂 I would love him to not be in the team, the way he is batting like a brainless fart!
That being said, I think a character like Pant needs a longer rope and if he is given that extra responsibility, without worrying about the scoreboard, I think that might be just what he needs.

Innings defeat at Headingley: Time for some changes in the Indian team

I think we cricket tragics do romanticise a fair bit when it comes to a perfect pitch. As long as there is a contest between bat and ball I am happy. I used to hold the opinion that there should be something in the pitch for all the skills to come to the fore, but that is a dream scenario. For example, this England v India
series has been cracking to watch but the pitches have hardly been condusive to spin bowling.
The pragmatist in me has to accept that certain conditions may favour a particular style of bastman or bowler but as long as the balance is there between bat and ball test cricket will survive and not get boring.

What is the ideal cricket pitch?

I think England channelled the aggression much better in this test match and bowled beautifully. If they are that relentless, its hard to see how India will bounce back.
I would have given Pujara a breather, but his last innings, might give him a few more tests now. If Pant is indeed going to be in the team, I would want him to come at 2 down after Pujara, then followed by Kohli and Rahane/Vihari, just to break up the big 3.
Bowlers could be Jadeja/Ashwin, Thakur, Siraj, Bumrah, Shami/Ishant.

Innings defeat at Headingley: Time for some changes in the Indian team

NZ are the perfect quiet achievers. No carrying on and winning 😁

'We don't let anyone take us lightly': Kohli says England 'provoked' India into matchwinning form

I think might said this elsewhere, England would do well to not enter into verbals with the Indians from the next test on. Focus on the cricket, and make it “boring”. Nothing Kohli hates more as that needle really fires up the team. NZ are reaping the benefits of this “quiet” approach.
