Thanks for clearing that up, everyone should now be clear on that.

Oh boy, let's start a real Australian Code War

Interesting that you would say that Australian football is foriegn to southern QLD, the code was played there some 30 years before RL, and is actually Australian born and bred, unlike imported other football codes.

Also i may point out that in 2011 there are 93 mens opens teams playing in local Brisbane AFL comp, and 35/40 under 18 teams, combined with around 10,000 juniors.

I wonder how many would agree with your assertion that they all play a “foreign” code.

Oh boy, let's start a real Australian Code War

OK, Black and white was the guess, not your Dad playing some trials there, long way from SA for a trial ?.

Collingwood beat Bombers to win NAB Cup final

The jury is still out on Folau and Hunt, less so on Hunt, but still out, will this gamble pay off, and who will be the judge ?.

GC has around 12,000 members, how many has Hunt russled up, and how many will he continue to draw, will their be thousands of extra eyeballs later in the season watching him ?.

Is the AFL's expansion strategy misguided?

Singing/chanting at the footy is a funny one, suprising that AF crowds dont do it more, considering that migrating poms/UK working class people, were responsible for establishing many AF clubs, although we are talking late 1800’s, from what i understand Centrals fans have it down pat though.

But i did read somewhere that many of the English soccer clubs fans did not originally sing/chant, but borrowed the practice in the 50/60’s from southern Europe and South America.

Much harder to sing at the footy, as the pace of the game really does not suit it, but i would love to see more, Joffa and mates seem keen on it, and get into it after every Collingwood game.

My guess would be that you follow Swan Districts in the WAFL ?.

Collingwood beat Bombers to win NAB Cup final

Centrals Districts and Collingwood ?, …. good lord, but you come across as being fair and reasonable !.

Dawes IMO will be the best key forward running around this year, very underated ATM, thought he was near BOG in the GF 2010.

Central Districts and Collingwood will both be hard to beat this year, although for the life of me, i can not understand the Bulldogs not entering into the Foxtel cup.

Interesting club are Central Districts, were once the laughing stock of the SANFL, and are now the absolute powerhouse, probably the most English Australian football club going around, and have embraced or been embraced by huge English expat population in Elizabeth

Very healthy niche, a sport such as la crosse, badminton or even volleyball would be what i term niche.

Across Brisbane/GC this year, there will be 93 senior mens teams across 7 divisions, 5 will have reserves, include another 35 to 40 under 18 teams, and you have a very healthy Australian football niche.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

Yes, i have heard of sarcasm, and i have been known to use it myself, but your post wasn’t sarcasm, but anger and bitterness, i can spot the difference.

As i suggested, re-read your posts in 6 months, when you get past all this, and see if you still agree with yourself.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

Read your own post in 6 months, then tell me who is resorting to idiocy,

Your very words were,…… “the evils of AFL aren’t hidden”……………….. . besides the rest of your rant, which i am not going to bother with, you describe a sport as “evil”, ………… not in a good place are you ?.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

Matt S said so no, the evils of AFL aren’t hidden

Glad you got that off your chest, …………. wait untill the AFL steal and eat your children !!.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

“Reciprocal behaviour” as you put it, occurs on all the different football forums, and of course you would know about that, as your name (one of many) on big footy was “I hate AFL”, before you were banned.

I posted on this thread, and many agreed with me, about the reference Mike Tuckerman made about RL and it’s comparison to the a-league

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

@Matt S, links and context please, and of course the age of the articles.

Not having a go, but the DM from Sydney has declared war on the AFL about 15 times in the last 2 years.

Swings and round-a-bouts ?.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

Thanks for asking Steve, I can see you are confused, China to my knowledge does not have a indigenous, local football code, that precedes association football (soccer), if that country did, like say America and American football or Canada and Canadian football or even Ireland and Gaelic football, then perhaps China would call soccer “soccer ‘ and it’s own local variety football.

Comprende !.

Getting way off topic though.

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

@ Matt S, I have to say, i have only watched a couple of episodes (offsiders) , and TBH did not find it one way or the other.

But if you have any recent anti-NRL articles (press) put them up, because i have not read any lately, and i am talking a couple of years, i think this anti-NRL bias from AFL journos is way out of proportion to reality, the way some RL fans go on, means there must be one every day coming off the press.

I will stand corrected, please post them if you can find them.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

Thats OK, from time to time soccer fans get confused, ….. AFL = Australian Football League.

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

Great, Dockers fan here ?.

BTW use the reply function, much easier to follow.

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

I find all this talk of anti-NRL journos amusing, how about posting a recent anti-NRL article.

How journalists are setting sports stars up for a fall

Of course you are entitled to an opinion, but by the same token, so am i, the roar is a multi sports board, so if you are not seeking an alternate opinion to your alternate opinion, go and post where everyone will agree with you.

I dont mind RL, i am first and foremost though an Australian football (AFL!) fan.

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

A disgruntled few may call it a hate mob, the overwhelming majority would say ithe mainstream media is relective of the collective Australian phyche.

Craig Foster alone is a big hate mob, how about posting all these articles where soccer cops it ?.

A good example of the typical soccer fan’s insecurity and paranoia is relective in a poster today slamming the Courier Mail in QLD for pathetic support of the a-league final, but not checking/reading it to find a 4 page lift out in the middle of the paper, untill pointed out by another poster. It appears he was in a hurry to look for the negative, and of course the usual conspiracy’s

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

My comment was about soccers lack of profile in this country, and your response was a post regarding how soccer ( i guess it was soccer) develops decent humans, and other codes dont.

Well played as usual !!.

I guess i could respond with a barrage of articles/links about soccer players shooting people, being involved with underage kids for sex etc etc, but that would be sinking down to your level.

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

Exactly right, yet the conspiracy theories still abound, but, when, if, maybe, to cold, to hot, it’s unfair, if only, etc etc

It is where it is, because thats where it sits in the Australian psyche.

A-League and co cannot prosper hidden on Foxtel

Yep, who woulda thought that having reserves are the way to go !!.

On the idea from WC and the Dockers for their own reserves teams, will they end up with all the best players, will their kids get smashed around, will they play finals etc etc ……………. i dont like the idea, I like the idea of Steven Hill to come back and play for West Perth as Kepler Bradley does from time to time, as will Jack Darling and Mark Seaby before him.

Fev case shows the upside of stand-alone reserves

I disagree, I reckon he represents a coup for Casey, will they lose sponsors and fans because of it, or gain them ?, everyone stops to see a train wreck, we are not talking about a AFL club, where PC reigns, but a suburban club, where the scrutiny is not as intense.

Fev will bring plenty of new/old fans out of the woodwork, to see the “man” himself and the great goals he is capable of kicking.

Scorpions kidding themselves if they pull pin on Fevola

Mike Tuckerman said “How ironic that in the same week NRL supremo David Gallop is left to defend yet another very public player infraction”.

Should the a-league and soccer in general get any sort of profile in this country, you can bet your bottom dollar that some mud raking journalist will find endless discretions, that soccer players have committed, ATM no one gives a flying f… .

Mike Tuckerman said “We haven’t always been able to say that about football, but our time has come, our time is here and our time is now”.

Good grief !!.

Why we should savour the A-League Grand Final

If racial slurs were used , i dont blame Marshall for laying one on him, but Polyneians are not black, there are several theories, but they essentially migrated from Taiwan, about the time when the new wave of settlers and what we call modern day Chinese settled the area.

Polynesians have very close genetic markers with tribes along the coast of Canada and Alaska, along with many other things including the nose kiss.

BTW polynesians dont even look black to me, quite a lot are in fact fair skinned.

Fair hit, Benji
