It makes sense if you take the last 10 years into consideration. He’s blown two really good chances at making a grand final, and honestly could have beaten Hawthorn in 2014 as well. He’s underperformed too many times, so this year should have been either overperform or get sacked.
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
Yep, well aware of the state of the club before Hinkley jumped on. I really liked Hinkley at the start of his tenure, I genuinely thought that 2014 run to the prelim was going to be the start of something really special, but 2015 and 2016 really proved his limitations as a coach. As soon as teams figured out the style of footy that was cutting them to ribbons in 2014, he really didn’t have a Plan B to go back to.
Uneducated is a strange term to use. We just have different expectations of the footy club, that’s all. I expect doing anything you can to win premierships, and I think Port are at a stage (and have been for a few years now) where a change of coach will get them closer.
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
It’s not that I expected a premiership this year, I just thought Hinkley should have had the expectation put on him considering his lack of success over the past decade. This should have been a ‘if you’re good enough, you’ll win one’ type of year for him.
At the end of the day, he’s had 10 years and only has three prelim losses to show for it. If we get to the end of ’26 and there’s still no grand final berth, let alone premiership, then we’ve just wasted two years with a (I believe) very talented list. That doesn’t sit right with me.
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
Honestly, I think the 13-game streak has papered over a lot of cracks this season. Outside of that streak, Port is 2-6. If we’d started the season 2-6, would you have been happy to see the back of Ken?
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
I know he didn’t finish Top 4 the year he was sacked, but Collingwood turfed Buckley during a down year mixed in with a bunch of finals appearances, and look where that’s got them. I don’t think Buckley would have unlocked that list like McRae has, just like I don’t think Hinkley can get the full performance out of this list.
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
Honestly? I thought we’d jump back into the 8, didn’t expect Top 4. I also think we’re like Collingwood last year in that we’re probably not good enough to be Top 4, but you’ll take it. My issue isn’t with the playing group, I genuinely don’t think Ken Hinkley has what it takes to coach a premiership-winning side. He’s been found wanting too many times now in big games. I promise you Adam, I don’t just ‘hate’ Ken Hinkley for the sake of it, I just would have liked to see the club at least have a run at a proven, premiership-winning coach. Maybe Ken Hinkley will prove me wrong over the next couple of years and actually win a premiership, but my gut says it’ll take a different coach to get over that hump.
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
We’ve had this discussion loads of times Adam, but if you’re happy with the past 10 years, more power to you. I’m not happy with it, yet I see the football club make the same mistakes that have led to no success for the past decade. Surely you can understand the frustration, particularly when a Port Adelaide premiership player and three-time premiership coach was up for grabs.

You’re right Maxy, 64,000 members makes up for a decade of mediocrity on the field. What a time for an epiphany.
AFL News: Hinkley locked in at last, Riewoldt the retiring type, hobbled Hawks star's career in limbo
You can write Port off as a contender until at least 2026 then. Sad to see a club accept mediocrity with such willingness.

Only good year is a premiership Adam. That’s the only point of professional football.
Footy Fix: ANOTHER Magpie magic act sinks the Power - here's how Collingwood pulled off their greatest heist yet
What did Port learn last night? In all seriousness, I can’t think of a single positive out of it that they didn’t already know about themselves. What they did learn is they’re not good enough to win a premiership, which is ultimately failure.
Footy Fix: ANOTHER Magpie magic act sinks the Power - here's how Collingwood pulled off their greatest heist yet
They haven’t had a great year since 2004, and it’s not changing this year. And I refuse to look at failure as a positive, that mindset breeds mediocrity.
Footy Fix: ANOTHER Magpie magic act sinks the Power - here's how Collingwood pulled off their greatest heist yet
You’re mistaking criticism for enjoyment of losing. I want Hinkley gone because I want the club to be serious about winning premierships, not because I’m just ‘whingeing’ for the sake of it.

I’ll enjoy the highs when they happen

They didn’t win the game. That’s the definition of failing in sport

Whatever he said didn’t work, because they just rolled over and stopped trying to win
Footy Fix: ANOTHER Magpie magic act sinks the Power - here's how Collingwood pulled off their greatest heist yet
Objectively, a loss next week would mean 0-2 in the showdown and losing a Top 2 spot with Geelong to come. If that’s good in your book, I can understand why you’ve enjoyed the past decade

I’m a sucker for punishment
Footy Fix: ANOTHER Magpie magic act sinks the Power - here's how Collingwood pulled off their greatest heist yet
Watched the whole game Don. I saw a team fold like a wet tissue in the last quarter because their coach said the wrong things in the huddle. I saw a team prove they’re not capable of winning big finals even if they manage to get there in the first place.
Footy Fix: ANOTHER Magpie magic act sinks the Power - here's how Collingwood pulled off their greatest heist yet
Which means they achieved nothing. Which in turn leads to yet another wasted season under a dud coach.

Let’s not dress this up as anything more than it was. Just a good team getting over the top of a bad team.

I think Schuster will be a very very good player if he applies himself, but still not convinced he’ll ever be fit or athletic enough to play 6 full time. I reckon his best position would be as a ball-playing lock, just gotta convince him to play there.
ANALYSIS: Bradman back to best as Manly's attack disappears - and Ponga has to stay at fullback
Manly have become the definition of mediocre over the past decade. Seibold clearly not the man to pull them out of it either.

I did. They won two of their last seven games which is undeniably better than winning zero of your last seven games.
NRL News: Ticket fiasco enrages fans, Hasler, DCE fight to keep jobs, Bronco plays with collapsed lung, Croker faces ban
Yeah, we’re not premiership or Top 4 right now, but we were good enough to win a premiership in 2020 and ’21, and arguably ’14 as well, we just had a dud coach who doesn’t know how to win big games.
