Hey NRL, here's a few more madcap ideas as you try to constantly 'improve' the game
Well said Ben. As a long, long term Eels fan, sadly, I think Tim is on the money, I have just watched us lose woefully to an understrength, clunky Roosters. We may not win another game this season. I was at the 2009 (and 2001) Grand Finals also. As much as I think Brad Arthur has really brought the Eels up from being in a complete mess 8 years ago, I’m afraid he cannot take us any further. I think it is time for a new voice into the dressing room. From hearing Shane Flanagan’s commentary, he sounds very astute. Maybe he would be a good hire?

Hi Maxtruck, thanks for the good question. The criteria for Origin selection is not straightforward, and before I wrote this article, I took a closer look at them as it’s available on the NRL website. Place of birth is not the only determinant of which state players qualify for, but it is one of several criteria from what I can see. For example a person born in ACT like Sticky can qualify for NSW if a majority of other criteria are met by answering NSW e.g. place of first senior competition played in, or where majority of schooling was completed, despite place of birth. But it certainly makes it a bit confusing for the fans.

Firstly thanks for reading and taking the time to post a comment and for being passionate. I started following league in 1975 but only vaguely recall pre 1980 interstate clashes. I read the criteria for Origin selection before I wrote this article, as it’s available on the NRL website. For example a person born in nsw can indeed qualify for qld if a majority of other criteria are met by answering qld e.g. place of first senior competition, despite place of birth. I think it’s a bit harsh to call my article “rubbish” therefore. Nonetheless, I appreciate your comment and know my article was a bit cheeky and not everyone’s cup of tea. Also, to be honest, I was not aware Gal was born in Brisbane so fair play. PS all the places of birth I quoted are accurate as far my research goes but if you can show me any that aren’t, I welcome any correction. Anyway, may the best team win, and enjoy the game.

Yes, that is true andyfnq. Melbourne’s system is incredible – they are just able to fill losses like no other team I can ever remember, and the player plays their part and they keep winning. Hey, good on you for have a look at NRL whilst AFL is your 1st love. Great stuff. Too many people think they’re mutually exclusive, but as a league tragic, I marvel and admire the athleticism, skill and ability of AFL and enjoy occasionally watching! cheers 👍
