A passionate lover of football, rugby league, cricket and formula one - which I love talking, reading, watching and writing about - I've also got an affinity for the NFL, and an enjoyment of the UFC, boxing and basketball, but am able to get up and about for just about any sport.

I actually think the model Australia should emulate is the Canadian one. What they’ve done in the last decade to get out of football obscurity and into the World Cup with a bunch of young talented with world class capabilities – notably Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David – is exceptional.
Not only that but the sporting landscape is similar to Aus with Canada having multiple dominant sports.
I have a bunch of research on it for a deep dive article but been caught up with work and haven’t yet written it.

As for the 2014 reference, I do agree with that point about having a similar squad make up – I just feel (and hope) we have turned a bit of a corner when it comes to players progressing their careers

Arnie's bold World Cup squad shows he has one eye on the future

Hey mate,

Not going to sit here and disagree regarding the US, such a divisive and seemingly broken nation. However, I also don’t believe Qatar’s ‘politically stability’ should be acknowledged given its obvious flaws.

As for moving the 2026 World Cup, I doubt there is a case for that based on political uncertainty due to a few factors. Firstly, if they haven’t moved this one after all the crap the preluded the tournament and the corruption at play in awarding it – which Sepp Blatter admitted this – I doubt they will shift it from the USA. This is especially true given it’s jointly hosted with Canada – a growing football nation – and Mexico, hosts of one of footballs most iconic World Cups.

Thanks for reading the article. I do appreciate the feedback and insights into the US, it’s a dire situation and has been for many years.

They’ve been flirting with it hahaha

Is any Premier League team a clear relegation threat?

The depth Australia possesses is both a blessing and a curse. Great insight into what life in camp is like and what the mindset of the coaches is regarding selection decisions.

MICHAEL HAGAN: Why players will ultimately pick the Kangaroos’ first-choice team at World Cup

Fantastic point mate – completely forgot him. Definitely a premier winger!

Penn tempting fate by discarding Des in favour of Seibold

100% – few strikers in the world would’ve got on the end of that De Bruyne ball at the weekend like he did.

Don’t let Haaland deceive you, acclimatising to the Premier League isn’t easy

I think most people are happy to concede that he won’t be involved much in the game outside scoring because A) he doesn’t have to be and B) it’s not his job.
The UCL will be the big test for him and City – they’d be the favourites and have a target on their back, interesting to see if he can finally deliver European glory for them.

Don’t let Haaland deceive you, acclimatising to the Premier League isn’t easy

I don’t think a lot of people expected him to score this morning either Josh! He has fantastic feet and I feel as though he can convert his on-ball ability into goalscoring, time will tell how prolific he becomes but Howe and Callum Wilson are great mentors for him.

Alexander Isak gives Newcastle European edge

Definitely been an interesting seasons so far!

Have the opening rounds quashed any fears of a foregone Premier League conclusion?

I do mate – been a weird year for FPL. Contemplated going 5 at the back for the first time ever, but opted for a 4-5-1

Marc Cucurella would plug two of Chelsea’s major holes

Some good predictions there Josh!

Can definitely see Spurs jumping to third and given their depth maybe stealing an FA cup at the least. They’ve got a proven winner as their manager also.

Newcastle and Villa both have potential to finish higher, especially now Kasper Schmeichel has left Leicester. That really weakens them! Newcastle my only concern is goals – Wilson is a proven scorer if he can stay fit, but will he? That’s the question. I actually really like Isak, even with his patchy scoring record, but I think he has a lot of attributes that will make him great once his scoring touch improves.

As for Villa, they’ve got a promising squad – but again, goals. Much like Wilson, Ings has shown he can score (when fit), so if he can catch fire they have a lot of potential to climb especially with a strong defence.

Thanks for the support Josh, really appreciate it mate! Legend

Who thrives, survives, and flounders in the 2022-23 EPL?

Thanks for your kind words mate, really appreciate it!

Hopefully Chelsea finalise the deal for him before any last minute issues can come to the fore, he would be perfect for them!

Marc Cucurella would plug two of Chelsea’s major holes

Personally I would probably throw Godfrey in there. He’s shown a lot of promise, even with his lapses (although he will improve with more experience). Not only that but he also brings a bit of pace which would be really useful for a back four that sort of lacks it!

I don’t think you could go wrong with Mina there either. Solid defender when he’s on! It’s a nice problem for Lampard to have that’s for sure.

James Tarkowski is exactly the man Everton need

Thank you Josh, really appreciate that one mate!
Do agree on Branthwaite, could definitely have a break out year next year but will need a strong leader partnered at the back with him!

Everton avoid the drop – but where to from here?

Some really great points Phil. The fullback point in particular is a great one. I guess the benefit of Spurs’ fullbacks is their youth – they have plenty of time to develop (hopefully) under Conte.
On Southampton I did gloss over their victory over Spurs purely because I hold Southampton in high regard and don’t view that loss as calamitous as perhaps the Burnley loss – the saints are a class outfit, really really well coached
Cheers for the feedback!

Caught in possession: The Tottenham conundrum

Thanks Stuart!
West Ham definitely could’ve caught a mention here. Those three have been an absolute delight to watch the past few years, especially Jarred Bowen. What a player!
Sadly for Spurs, top 6 seems to be their level – although I suspect they may not even finish there – given the quality of West Ham, Arsenal and United above them

Caught in possession: The Tottenham conundrum

Thanks mate! Absolutely staggering how a club of such stature and with so much recent success has been able to run themselves into the ground this quickly. Lucky they have one of Europe’s best academies.

Pedri and the dawn of Barcelona’s new era

City look awesome without a natural 9. They destroyed my beloved Chelsea with De Bruyne and Silva playing up top. It’s scary.

And mate Newcastle got a good win last night against Everton. The most minutes Wilson and Fraser play together the more you guys will improve.

Hope you enjoyed the article.

Good win Newcastle last night against Everton! The more minutes Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser play together, the better Newcastle will be. Are you Steve Bruce in or out mate?
