Australian born and bred. Grew up playing rugby union, real football and cricket. Gave up RU for real football in my mid teens - soccer was a whole lot more skillful and more fun. Now retired, but follow Sydney FC, the Socceroos and Matildas, Man Utd and the Swans.

Adelaide United has every right to feel aggrieved that Valeri was not given a straight red. His tackle on Gulum deserved it. A correct decision for that foul would probably have changed the result of the match. I suspect Berisha would have been sacrificed for a holding mid-fielder and, with 11 vs 10, AU would have strangled MV out of the game.

Kevin – the rules are the rules are the rules. They are intended to apply across the board. Of course, in practice some will really apply more in club golf than at the professional level, such of those aimed at speed of play.

So did he walk or was he really pushed?? It sounds as if the CCM Management may have decided results were just not good enough, so they added requirements for next season that were guaranteed to make Okon break his contract.

Stuart, may I suggest there is a fourth category. I’m a member. That’s people who follow an A League team but who remember all too well the failings of the NSL, understand the Crawford Report and are desperate that Australian football does not repeat the sins of the past. Many of us also follow a team in the state league ranks, but understand that the ‘Cons’ of the world can be both the greatest of football supporters or the worst. The recommendation of Crawford to create a league where obvious ethnic branding is not allowed was wise and needs to persist IMHO.

May I also suggest that the FFA’s emphasis on funding of growth is wise, although I take your point about the need to engage football’s culture as well. So a test for many of the NPL teams who would aspire to be in the A League is whether they are willing to adhere to all of the A League’s rules, especially those around ethnic branding. If they are unwilling, then I think they are making the decision to disqualify themselves.
