As usual Nick your analysis is spot on. Modern defensive structures are more complicated than in the past but the current Wallabies approach is baffling to say the least.
Would be great to see you do an analysis on the ABs structures from both set piece and phase ball.
Not sure who is doing WBs technical analysis but they would do a whole lot better with your clear thinking.

It's time for the Wallabies to stop the music on defence
The call for a new coach is a must. But that is several links down the chain of action required. The board and executive of RA must also go. There has been a systematic failure in the management of the game since the early 2000’s. The game had a high profile, a war chest after RWC 2003 and nothing was done to sure up the future of Rugby in this country. A failure to promote the game in the Western Suburbs of Sydney (and other growth areas) and clear pathways via the grassroots (clubs) is the most obvious of missed opportunities.
Its still an old boys club, racked by factions and cronyism, in this country and until they are cleaned out and replaced by people with passion and vision (eg Papworth et al) rugby will continue its slide to oblivion.
How do we harness this groundswell of resentment and disillusionment into a positive outcome for rugby in Australia? Petitions and letters from every club in Australia demanding the removal of the board and executive of RA would be a start. Followed by the rebuild from ground zero. Its going to be a long way back.
