ooh! You shouldn’t have done that… As you will see from my post, expect furious anger in many replies! Also Bay, apparently you are not allowed to celebrate your teams victory as that makes you Ungracious and arrogant.

just FYI.

Gracious? what does that have to do with my reply? Did you even read the whole reply?

And do you want to know where we were? Probably hiding from all the jokes and humiliation of our team getting hammered every weekend. Or celebrating with Bulls fans who felt sorry for us.

And by your logic, we should not be celebrating our teams performances and wins now because, what? They haven’t won the cup? Jeez that makes for a pretty disappointing life when you aren’t allowed to be happy with the wins unless it comes with silverware.

but congrats on your Crusaders legacy and all that. Like i said to Biltong, Go YOUR team.

Sorry buddy, but were you the only one I mentioned? if you are going to make statements and then be called on them then take it on the chin bud. Much like my defense of Heyneke back in 2014 which turned out to be a bit misplaced.
Also, when a team wins against your prediction and you use the “ya but” excuse, it really diminishes your argument.

So in closing, take it on the chin like that Tahs winger in the last try, go your team (suspecting the Bulls, might be the Sharks due to your crankyness) and go the bokke.

Super Rugby Round 10: Death, taxes, and upsets

Let me try and post this on the correct feed. Anyone know where I can find Harry and Biltongbek? Apparently the “overrated Lions” season will start imploding with this game.

Thank you SP. All about work ethic (which is different to “working hard”) and the right environment created by the coaching staff. There are no excuses made and none accepted from anyone, coach to player. Also suspect we will start seeing Rudolph Strauli’s expertise come into play in recruitment pretty soon!

No South African side can win Super Rugby, but that's good news for the Springboks

Aw’right aw’right aw’right! How we doin!?

Good one Armand. Just few questions though?
1. ” 2014 and the Lions faded away in the second half of the season” won their last 3 games..not so sure about that fade.
2. “the Lions lost against the Sharks, Bulls and Stormers.” Really? Not sure about that Bulls loss either….maybe we should wait for the return game at loftus before making that prediction?
3. ” Elton Jantjies He still misses tackles, which is a worry” Not much missed, which is NOT a worry.
Seems even when my Lions are being complimented, it’s being done in a Chuck Norris back-handed way? 🙂
One last thing, best stormers team? Stormers of 2010! Finalists and beat all 4 NZ teams! Man they were good!

Good one Harry.

Always feels so good to read ” Battle of the Brain Dead” of ones own team. From a Stormer supporter. (smiley/jokey face to follow later. if I can muster it. Maybe.)

What I do enjoy though is that although there are clear favourites right now, everyone realises this competition is a marathon and no-one has asked for the trophy to be handed over to their team so far.

The balance of power in Super Rugby thus far

Ha! Saw that too! didnt know my Lions had connections to the Brits! Seems our depth is much deeper than I first thought!

Waratahs face losing out in a battle of snakes and ladders

Welcome Jayme.

Wow. After one game, and my Lions are arrogant because they are backing themselves more? Brave article. Sounds like the one I wanted to write right after the loss. But then I sat down and waited. And the feeling of dissapontment passed.

One game. In a series of 9 consecutive games before they get a bye. Again, some perspective necessary.

Lions showed arrogance in discarding underdog status

Good stuff BB! Just a quick note on” Redelinghuys was called up instead, but apart from experiencing the Springbok culture and spending time on the paddock during training sessions Meyer has not given him a chance to prove his mettle at international level”

I believe our man Julian is a fully fledged bok having now played two (2) tests already (Italy and Wales although i might be wrong about wales). So we can let Heyneke off on that on.

other than that, really wish Malherbe can stay injury free as he is a great defender as well. And spot on abut the scrumming being an 8 man job,in the cae of the Lions and 8 man trip to fun land which probably explains their success in it and their smiles afterwards.

Rugby World Cup 2015: The Springboks' best tightheads

Thanks Armand!

Agree with the results. Think the team is still a season away from turning some of those home games into definate wins and some of those away games into positive results.
However, ithas made my chest swell with enormous pride to read all the good things being said about my team. (Ok, our team. I will share them with the rest of you). The biggest thing which I hope to see more of in our other Saffa teams and which the Lions get right is positive play. Not reckless swing the ball aroud play, but positive “the end result is in our control” play.

Oh, and Happy new year everyone! Getting the shakes just thinking of our rugby season ahead!

Super Rugby SA conference preview : The Lions

Look, in our house the wifey is a huge Faf fan! According to her IRB rule book you are not allowed to tackle the Faf! or Frodo, with that hair of his as i sometimes refer to him.
I do believe he could be, but you need a tactical boot for test rugby. and your pass, both ways, needs to be prescise. Without crabbing across. a Habbit i see more and more nowadays from all our scrummies.

Looking forward to the Springboks of 2015

Thank you BB. Apologies for my late reply. The Highveld pollen has struck me down once again. I do actually agree that we would have liked to see more game time go towards the up and comers you mentioned above, although i am also of the believe that class is never temporary and i feel the players who have retired or are older do have that class.

Looking forward to the Springboks of 2015

I agree that we have players that are more skilled than most would admit. But our style of rugby is in fact the direct one. And here is a lttel insight for you BB, so is the All Blacks. In fact, to be succesful in rugby you need to win the collisionsand ou do that the best way you can with the equipment (players) at your disposal.
To expect the Bok coach to re-invent our way of playing when the majority of the coaches who spent the most time with the playersdo the exact opposite is ludicrous. it is already amazing that we are showing any intent on running rugby when th Stormers, the Sharks and the Bulls are musch less so inclined.

so i have to wonder, is this issue many have with the coach and the way we play not more deep rooted in where Heyneke comes from? Because I keep seeing these referals to Blue Bulls rugby.

South Africa must embrace their physicality

I agree with Rob on this. we tried the running game, that apparent sweetness that you want from our rugby Biltong and our execution let us down badly! so this perception that we only crash it up and kick the ball away is not only supported by facts, but actually more based on perception.

South Africa must embrace their physicality

Good one BB! Agree with the tactics being used by defensive teams. However, i do believe that a lot of it is down to being allowed to spoil by inept officials. The laws are the same, it is only ever down to interpretation. Also, freeflowing rugby being pretty aside, you do not need to hve the ball all the time and run from everywhere, as the stats show clearly. You need to win the collisions first, dominate the breakdown contest and then be able to exploit the slim opportunities presented to you. Those last two parts are what we are not executing right this season as much as last season.

Heyneke Meyer needs to smarten up

Thank you all for the very pleasant comments! I appologise if i do not respond to all, as for some unknown reason my company really prefers me to be productive when i show up. I knwo right? How unreasonable? Do they not realise there is rugby to be talked about?

Anyhew, to scattergun reply to some questions, Kiwi, I stillrate JM as a coach and believe his unique personality traits maybe makes him little friends. Sort of like Nic Mallet. But both are people I would sit and listen to for hours like a kid at daycare.
I also beliee that the Lions hould go well again nxt SR as they are building a culture and uderstanding currently which is stronger than their scrum.
Thank you for calling me an intelligent supporter. Been telling the girlfriend that forever, now i have the written proof that will hold up in court!

As for changes for this weekend, I like em!

Want Reinach to play that game he played against the Crusaders in the Sharks first match earlier this season!

Springbok fans need to take into account perspective

Hi Robc

Thank you kindly.

I believe Ackers (we Lions are allowed to call him that) along with Swys his assistant has decided to work with what they have, instead of trying to imprint a plan on players. From that base they now develop players into more rounded individuals. Theory of “why change when you can mold”. Sounds almost New Zealandy, doesn’t it? 🙂
I think Julian will be breath of fresh air, particularly because he does his job well , scrumming, as well as posess skills you would find in certain backline players.

Springbok fans need to take into account perspective

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. Yes i would have prefered to go by Louis the Laeveld Leeu (South African comic strip) as it sounds much more cooler…but alas…Also i feel so safe with you guys and in no way a future victim of identity theft therefore the freedom which i give my name 🙂
i digress however. Thank you Biltong and Kia and Harryfor the reply. It really means something when Gurus take the time to write so much in reply to a newby such as myself.
Yes, I too used words that cannot be repeated on Saturday, especially when Willie leroux started his dancing again…And as for passion, well how about butterflies everytime i think about the upcoming test this weekend? Also, yes, my Lions after trying to kill me many times over the seasons have now progressed…and found new ways of torturing me.
