This ranking ladder is subjective, just used to demonstrate who’s in form at a point in time. The premiership ladder determines who plays off in the final series at the end of the season so it is the only one that counts. The Storm have only clicked in a few games so far, still think they’re a bit light on in the pack if every club has their full roster available when it counts.

NRL Power Rankings: Round 8 - Rabbits hit rock bottom, Warriors show signs of complacency, Dragons' bubble bursts

Interesting take on the Warriors but not sure they’ve ever been in a position to be complacent. If you count the Christchurch win over the Raiders as a home game, they’ve won two, lost 2 and drawn one at home. The two wins (Knights & Raiders) were against teams generally not considered to be top 8 material and they were beaten by the previously winless Titans. Take out their 30 point away win over a grossly underachieving South Sydney and they appear to be seriously overrated. The 2023 Dally M coach of the year should be concerned as they’re not great travellers and their away games now include the cowboys/bulldogs/raiders/dolphins/sea eagles of which quite a few will be contenders for those 3-8 ladder spots. Also meeting Penrith at Suncorp in magic round instead of an Auckland home fixture. If he loses Johnson for any stretch of games, they are in serious trouble. Webster will be hoping he runs up against teams impacted by state of origin selections during that interstate series, otherwise the Warriors are in danger of missing the top eight.

Probably is as good defensively but Walsh gets pulled up for the shoulder charges.

Koroisau limps out of Tigers' defeat to Broncos after being cruelled by the harshest Bunker call of the year

Surely nobody suggests Benji is a chance of the sack, he’d have to get 3 years to rebuild, it can’t be an 8 game plan. Oates must be on tenterhooks, turns slower than the Quuen Mary & lags a long way behind the quick guys if they make a break.

Think you’re spot on about Nanai, too many missed tackles this season. Think he needs to be playing more minutes to get fitter and shed some rust because he seems to get gassed quickly, maybe carrying an injury?

Maroons Origin predicted team: Slater forced to make changes after injuries sideline some certain selections

I noticed a few weeks back that Koriosau had to bleach his hair as punishment for a misdemeanour at the tigers. Reece Walsh wouldn’t cop that if the broncs implemented it.

Surely Kevin Walters pips Webster for the coaching spot for the good guys team. He’s been in the public eye a lot longer and yet to see or hear anything that could sully his exemplary character.

Not quite sure ‘it’s more important to attend to his welfare & mental health issues’ is the right message to send him and the public. Seems every time a player stuffs up, the mental health card is played to protect them, maybe a few home truths and kick in the ar*e would be better. This generation of players have never had it so good, a run of the mill first grader is guaranteed to earn upwards of $350k. How hard is it to accept that the good pay & conditions (they’re spoon fed) come with responsibilities. Trindall just hasn’t appeared to have stuffed up, he’s allegedly got the trifecta of suspended licence, over the limit of alcohol and positive test for an illicit substance. Pity when he’s finally locked down that 5/8 role after a few years of in & out of the team. Bang goes his outside shot at a shadow 5/8 role for the maroons if there are injuries in that position.

I’ll jump in early, NSW look the better side on paper. Should be odds on for a clean sweep.

Well in my younger days way back most people took the car to work on Fridays because public transport stopped before we wanted to. You live & learn.

Yep, think you also see that at the broncs with the difference between Reynolds and Madden when he comes in. Madden is a reasonable half but Mam stepped up in Reynolds absence which helped. I have little doubt that Mam takes that halfback role in 2026 if Reynolds gets through this season and the next.

How Knights must change approach with KP gone - or find themselves back where they were when Joey retired

I reckon it’s a stretch to suggest the Knights develop s game plan that Ponga can fit into and then use the Panthers as an example. Aside from the odd games missed because of injury by Cleary or Luai in the past 3 or 4 seasons, Penrith have had their key playmakers (Edwards/Cleary/Luai/Yeo) intact for all but around 20 games. After Koroisau left, they’ve had a few hookers but they know better than to try to overcall Cleary or Yeo as first receivers. Generally, there has only been one of the four injured at any one time so whoever has had to slot in has had the remaining three to guide them through the plan.
The Knights have shuffled through spine candidates in the same four seasons, including the unsuccessful attempt to turn Ponga into a 5/8. They’ve never had a dominant hooker, halves or ball-playing lock. When the made their 8 game run last year Ponga was fresh from an injury break & didn’t have a post origin hangover while Young gave them a significant outside back advantage. Things are different this season, Ponga has been dominant at times but has been bashed around while Young is gone. The Safiti twins look a bit slow to me, solid props but certainly not origin material while Frizell is showing the effects of his hard-nosed style. Gagai suffers from having ordinary halves inside him, unlike when he suited up in maroon. Best needs to be set up, a bit like Kotoni Staggs, he’s a ‘run through a brick wall’ centre, not one with flair and finesse.
Without Ponga, I reckon O’Brien needs to scrap his current style and get the team to play grafting footy, staying in the game as long as possible to jag their wins.

How Knights must change approach with KP gone - or find themselves back where they were when Joey retired

Was going to suggest his retirement might be related to how he plays the game with no hint of self preservation. He’s had a few head knocks in recent seasons on top of what he copped back when bravery despite concussion required these warriors to get back in the fray. Hope he’s not showing signs of concussion issues as he’s still a young man.

'There were no decisions to make': Skipper drops retirement bombshell after doctors' grave warnings

Got them first game of the season, not sure they’ve yet shown they’re capable of knocking over the big boys but they looked good against a subpar cowboys who don’t travel well. They’ve got some speed at the back & on the flanks but their centres haven’t convinced me yet. Do you reckon they could possibly replicate that first 30 minutes against a top side that won’t implode?

Sizzling Sharks show they're the real deal with savage attack but question marks linger for misfiring Cowboys

I had that opinion of the Sharks last season but they seem a bit better balanced with Talakai on the bench as an impact forward instead of his hot and cold efforts at centre. Hynes is pulling all the right strings at the moment but the cowboys did put very little pressure on him and I’ve never seen a team play as faultlessly for the first 30 minutes this season, helped by dumb cowboy penalties late in the tackle count. Beat two of Panthers, Broncos & Storm when they’re near full strength and they can be considered a contender.

Sizzling Sharks show they're the real deal with savage attack but question marks linger for misfiring Cowboys

You don’t think it was tongue in cheek? Wayne’s more about man management & he usually has an offsider to manage the footy stuff after he hatches the plan & Woolfe just had to settle them down at halftime. The Eels have imploded in the Darwin heat before.
Have to say that one bloke going fairly unrecognised over the last few years is Josh Hannay, assistant coach at the sharks and Qld. Think he was a bit hard done by not getting the cowboys gig and he must be on the shortlist for a senior job soon. Trouble is he’s maroon through & through and can’t see an early coaching vacancy up here unless the cowboys hierarchy blink.

Not good travellers, your mob. Hoping they bash the sharks, best of luck.

Contenders or ...? Cowboys shoot to top of the ladder but need to claim big scalp to prove title credentials

But your mob are the ‘Pride of the League’ mate, it’s all ever hear. Everyone goes through troughs in performance, with the Rabbitohs squad they should be better, that’s just a fact.

'How does it not get sin-binned?' Benji fumes at ref's soft call as Cleary insists Edwards not hurt

Jimmmy, in addition since the 2022 semi, you’ve lost Gilbert & Hammer (guns), Lemuelu & Leilua (ok depth) plus Hess injured for the season & Luki too often. Your rookie centres will be far better than Hiku was so all is not lost. I’d try Clifford too, Townsend is slowing by the week.

Contenders or ...? Cowboys shoot to top of the ladder but need to claim big scalp to prove title credentials

Age eventually catches up with everyone Jimmmy. You’ve got JT13 not playing like the earlier version of a real 13, Townsend couldn’t run out of sight on a dark night, Granville as bench cover for any injury in the backline coming on in the pack, try-scorer Nanai who has a regular missed tackle in his game and rookie centres paired with Holmes. Add the fact that your club record try scoring winger mixes incredible feats with perplexing errors and you’re doing ok. They’ll probably make the 8.

Contenders or ...? Cowboys shoot to top of the ladder but need to claim big scalp to prove title credentials

If you look at the two incidents highlighted here, it would appear that the serial successful clubs get the rub of the green pretty often. I was shocked that Tedesco didn’t get binned or suspended for his blatant trip, it was not an accidental clip when wrong footed. Schneider’s ankle tap on a support player in the clear was similar, deserving of a sin bin. I’m a bronco fan and admit it used to go our way against the strugglers so it’s not bias against the roosters or panthers. I’m still salty about the second tackler pushing Walsh back into the in goal with knees in the back in the GF when on top. I know he was slow getting to the ball but that was regularly penalised in ordinary fixtures. Refs have a subconscious bias in that top teams don’t need to cheat because they’re superior, not always so.
