Advice to cowboys, lock Mario Tartak in a room at the clubhouse & don’t let him out until the release papers for Leilua are signed, notarised and lodged with the NRL. Aside from Luki and Finefeufiaki you’ve got Griffin Neame & Coen Hess to extend. Leilua has always been one brain explosion away from disaster given the money he’s on, the quantum of which was always debatable. St George are welcome to roll the dice, they’re far more in desperate need of experienced nrl forwards. Just lock in a book of uber ride-share vouchers as part of his contract.

Cowboys star wants immediate exit as Sharks forward closes in on taking homecoming offer

Sorry about the seemingly repetitive comment, got a red x and cookie message that said post rejected both times, didn’t think they were uptaken.

Taylan v Sunia v Paul: It's a threeway race to replace Crichton - could it be the Panthers' forgotten man?

Panthers, the Qld rep system get the kudo’s if Longi makes the nrl or is it another success story for the ‘best league nursery in the country’? Not sour grapes, just hoping he gets to stay as a maroon and not stolen by your lot who have more than enough to choose from. Roosters & Storm have been grabbing young Qld kids for years.

Taylan v Sunia v Paul: It's a threeway race to replace Crichton - could it be the Panthers' forgotten man?

So Panthers, if Longi is a junior Qld rep and gets into the top squad at Penrith next season, do we give the credit to the maroons talent identification & development system or is it more of this constant praise for “the best junior nursery” in Australia? Not sour grapes, just querying where we draw the line. Realise we can’t keep all our junior reps in the 4 Qld clubs, Roosters & Storm have made an art form of snatching Qld kids so it’s expected to happen. Heaps of our junior talent used to get scholarships to Sydney league schools back in the day, as long as they don’t end up wearing sky blue I’m comfortable with it but those eligibility rules need to recognise the practice so we’re not disadvantaged.

Tony, that’s a pretty fair assessment of the pecking order at this stage but I’d argue they’ll start Gilbert for the softening up period before giving Fifita an opportunity to attack tired defenders. If he’s back to full fitness, I reckon he’s one of the first picked and I’m not a dolphin supporter. Personally, I’d go with Fermor or Horsburg starting in place of Nanai because JN’s defence fell away a bit as the season progressed. I know he’s a freak try scorer but he’s been caught out by those good ball-players (Walker) with the loop around or out the back attack. The guy who’s really got to pull his socks up in 2024 is Munster, his form was all over the place in 2023 & you can’t keep excusing him as ‘playing injured’.

Slater recalls veteran trio as young guns put pressure on incumbent stars after Maroons name early Origin squad

Just an other case of “don’t you know who I am” with these young blokes given a false impression of their worth. Needs to be out picking up litter with a stake.

'I'll come back stronger physically and mentally': Amone vows to revive career after contract torn up over hammer attack

Come on MMH, don’t misquote Dylan Thomas. “do not go gentle into that good night” doesn’t quite fit the narrative.

Leniu v Jared: The young tyro wants to take on the old warrior, but who is actually top dog at Roosters?

And the most humble bloke out there given interviews I’ve seen after those great highlights.

Can't beat the Heat! Neser's relay catch stunner sums up brilliant Brisbane's second BBL title as Sixers smashed

Queenslanders haven’t needed to leave early from suncorp after big games in recent decades, usually celebrating.

MMH, if as per your comment “he had been one of the worst performers in early pre-season” then should we expect a few more sanctions and sackings? It would be interesting to hear who lagged behind with him & how much they are earning. Nothing wrong with higher standards but hopefully they apply equally.

Nofoaluma OUT at Tigers after record-breaking decade of service following brutal Benji blow-up

Unless it’s all a smokescreen put out by the club to shore up their justification for worming out of the bad deal they negotiated. Seems you’ve bought into the club press releases.

Nofoaluma OUT at Tigers after record-breaking decade of service following brutal Benji blow-up

Funny how they can suddenly find all these breaches when the club wants to worm its way out of a bad deal they made in the past. Interestingly, they’re generally happy to keep the good players who might get them a few wins when they are alleged to have overstepped the line in relation to domestic violence, sexual assaults or just plain bad behaviour. To me, they’ve tried to get out of $1M liability with a $300K payout offer.

Alomoti’s defensive stats are a bit scary, 80% is usually a B+ or A- in school but in the NRL missing every fifth tackle is surely an F. On the positive side, playing at the bulldogs in the last few years would drag anyone down. There’s always hope, in a few seasons Jamaine Isaako went from one of the worst wingers for defensive reads at the broncos to an utterly reliable defender at the dolphins. Who knows?

Taylan v Sunia v Paul: It's a threeway race to replace Crichton - could it be the Panthers' forgotten man?

Apologies to your mate then for assuming it was him in the McBride incident. My memories are hazy from back then but I recall the furore here & silence on the Catchpole issue from just about every kiwi around. What happens on the field stays on the field is a good stance when it goes your way.

'Stands beyond rivalry': Passing the story of Wallabies icon Ken Catchpole through the generations

Easy to say accidental after chatting to your mate over a beer, but is that an objective assessment? Many think differently. Did he happen to mention the accident where McBride hit him in the fist with his jaw? I think the point of the article was a brilliant career cut short by a very unsavoury incident and that clearly is a reasonable assessment. Not much sense debating it now

'Stands beyond rivalry': Passing the story of Wallabies icon Ken Catchpole through the generations

Dragons should sign Corey Paix with broncos subsidising his contract, win for all three parties. Back up hooker & halfback which they’ll need at origin time and the broncos will probably be amenable to the deal with four hookers on their books.

I think you overestimate Gamble’s contribution. He was a reggie’s player never destined to make the NRL after stints at various clubs, got a shot at the broncs by way of injuries & luck when they were rubbish, alienated half of his own team and got out of town before he got everyone else offside. Had a dream run for the second half of 2023 but history shows most of those later life discoveries struggle once they create expectations of consistent quality. I’d be going with Cogger before Gamble, mainly because he learned what works in a good system last year. Reminds me of the boxing pluggers they used to line up against Ali in his early years, talk themselves up at the weigh in but it was all just a facade before the inevitable hiding.

Tyson v Jack: Newcastle's halves are the big question for Adam O'Brien - but does he have a secret weapon?

Very rarely anything ‘accidental’ in the All Blacks style back in the day, it was usually a case of ‘whatever it takes’ from my recall.

Geez, that pack certainly wouldn’t strike fear into many opponents, and the backline also looks susceptible.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: St George Illawarra Dragons - Double blow for Flanagan with recruits out for year

One problem looms there Matth, Smith’s passing from dummy half is, and always has been, atrocious. As a runner, he’s first class but his timing and the arc of his passes do nothing for their runners. I’d speculate that the Storm chose Grant over him specifically because of that reason.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Sydney Roosters - uncertainty on the horizon with question marks over roster

It was speculation based on desperation Andrew. Never said it was in any way related to the real world (a bit like their current recruitment strategy).

I don’t know Mitchell, don’t do social media & just watch footy. From my scant observations from an ‘on the field’ perspective, there are two versions of Lattrell Mitchell. One, where he plays with a smile on his face, is great to watch and serves his team well. Love watching that version. Two, the angry version for whatever is going on either on field or off, that guy isn’t always so good to watch because you just seem to hear “tick, tick, tick” in your head waiting for something to blow up. Everyone has issues in life, just hope that Mitchell’s football life isn’t derailed by unnecessary distractions (except when the bunnies play my lot). Geez he can play!

Rugby league messiah, naughty boy or misunderstood: Latrell is a gift to the media that keeps on giving

Mate, it’s a prison sentence when they don’t have a spare cell to put you in. Lucky if he plays again in my opinion. Surely we have to have some standards met by clubs, wouldn’t have had Lodge anywhere near the broncs when Wayne took him in, worst move ever by the club accepting that.
Think the dragons now have to get creative with recruitment of a 5/8, what about approaching the Rorters about taking Keary on a 3 year contract immediately (salary locked into to the salary cap whether he finishes out or not) which might make him jump because the roosters are going to go with Walker & Manu after this year anyway. He might think ‘doing a Reynolds’ is worth it for two extra seasons of big money. Might also surprise a few of us and teach their young blokes how to be professional.

Since they’ve made this decision, the wisdom of it to be determined in hindsight, they’ve got to run with it for a few years. Going to need two new openers by then and doesn’t look like Harris or Bancroft will feature. Nice if Pucovski actually played rather than commentated on T20 (someone tell him he’s not getting paid by the word – take a breath every now & then young fella) and a few of the twenty-somethings got serious and scored centuries in the shield.

Four sight: Callous critics need to realise 'something special' factor can turn Green into Australia's Jacques Kallis

Just to slightly counter your perspective, Bradman never had to concern himself with 3 formats of the game of cricket. Just played club, shield, tour or test cricket with the same rules & conditions applying.
