I agree Silvio. The selectors will probably use Hughes as the fall guy. Though maybe they will show a bit more resolve than selection panels of the past?
Michael Hussey also in the firing line
I suppose making into the Test side is not just about skill level but timing as well. Rogers in particular was probably a tad unlucky not to get a gig a couple of years back

If he’d stayed fit Shane Bond would have been New Zealand’s best ever player. Certainly their best ever bowler. Considering he is a recent player there should still be hope that New Zealand could still produce some world-class players and be competitive more regularly.
Why the Black Caps could beat Australia
I suppose everyone loves a close contest and Australia walloping eveyone had beccome a tad passé. Close games make good games. We’ll see tomorrow if the Kiwis have some fight in them.
Why the Black Caps could beat Australia
Could have snuck out more after today. NZ batsmen got out more to poor shot selection than good bowling. Never a good sign.
Why the Black Caps could beat Australia
That’s true Sean. As I said in the piece, in Twenty20 he only has to produce flashes of brilliance in order to make a meaningful on-field contribution.
Is Shane Warne Australia's Michael Jordan?
At this stage it certainly appears that Warne is a tad more astute off the field than Jordan has been.
Is Shane Warne Australia's Michael Jordan?
Hi Adam. Not really sure what the inaccurate part is that you are referring to. All I essentially say is exactly what you just did. MJ wasn’t the same player he was with Washington, a shadow of his former self. Yes he was a top 20 player still but he couldn’t do the things he used to. It was if he was Jordan Lite.
Is Shane Warne Australia's Michael Jordan?
There is a valid comparison to made. It’s not perfect but there are similarities in the way they have handled their retirements and then coming back a couple of times.
Is Shane Warne Australia's Michael Jordan?
Or like South African cricket without choking in World Cups.
Boom-Boom Afridi un-retires from cricket
Hi Russ – I must admit to being a tad glib in my article. I don’t deny that there have been some good reasons why Afridi has come and gone from the side over the years (I even mention the previous state of the board as one for his most recent retirement), but the main point was highlighting that the guy has had more comebacks than John Farnham.
Boom-Boom Afridi un-retires from cricket
That is pretty surprising. You would have thought at least 3 or 4 of them would have major sponsors by now. The Big Bash seems doomed before it has started. I hope I’m proved wrong though!
Mumbai wins CLT20 but nobody cares
Hi Ben – I agree with your point that the tournament should be incorporating more teams from other countries in the main part of the tournament. Otherwise it is just another IPL.
Mumbai wins CLT20 but nobody cares
I hope the Big Basj does well but it seems the prospects of it being successful appear slim. Even avid cricket followers appear confused by the revamped format. What chance is there of the casual fan caring?
Mumbai wins CLT20 but nobody cares
Good piece. NSW definitely the favourites with a young and solid bowling group but if Tasmania keep on producing result pitches they are in with a shout as well.
The Sheffield Shield 2011-12 preview
It actually does, albeit unwittingly going by the title. The Angry Anderson performance actually occurred at half-time of the 1991 Grand Final. Check out the link below. At about 7 minutes Sandy Roberts announces that “The second half’s coming up…”
The best pre-game entertainment disasters
Couldn’t agree more Tim. Though I think the TV stations would love a night GF so it probably will happen one day.
AFL GF Day: The best day of the year
Article has been corrected now. Thanks for pointing it out Tim. Can’t believe I got that wrong. It’s going to haunt me more than the Highlander 2 thing.
AFL GF Day: The best day of the year
Very much sounds like a month to remember for you. Awesome stuff.

You are right Lolly, the dire state of some of the other nations also has something to do with where Australia sit in the grand scheme of things. The Aussies aren’t that bad but that, at least in part, might be a relative thing.
Maybe Australian cricket isn't that bad?
The new players have definitely all grabbed their chances. A great sign for the national side.
