If WU actually want a point of different, maybe instead of trying to bait MV fans with all these cringe marketing stunts, they could actually live up to their name and play in a actual football stadium in the west at Knights Stadium.
This game means nothing to Victory fans, they don’t even consider their existing derby with City as their biggest game of the season. A couple of contrived marketing stunts from some suits in WU’s marketing department aren’t going to change that.
Western United's adventure into Victory territory
Lol trolling by pretending that you are not a kiwi is just sad.
Club Australia: Frank Arok's Socceroos of the '80s
Oh boo hoo. They get as much chat as any 2 mid table clubs in a 12 team competition are worth.
Perth haven’t even played a game yet and everything worth mentioning about Adelaide was done to death after the game against City. There’s nothing more to be said.
Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future
It’s good to have new teams but I wouldn’t get too excited about the impact of the new “derbies.”
Fox Sports and Brenton Speed in particular might relentlessly bore us to death pushing these #derbies but I can say that Western United game rank pretty low on the Victory fanbase’s priorities. Even the Melbourne Derby is a definite afterthought compared to the Sydney or even Adelaide Game for many.
I think the rather blasé reaction from many WSW fans to the recent Macarthur game indicted it won’t be a high priority for them either.
Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future
London Stadium is garbage for football. I’ve been to a West Ham game both there and the Boleyn and its’s just sad to see how much of what was a cracking match day experience that fans lost with a move.
Cowbells and new blood suddenly make the A-League look a whole lot better
There are numerous things that make Speed a terrible Football commentator, but frankly until he can put in the minimum effort to pronounce non-anglo names even remotely correctly, he has no business commentating on the World Game.
Bozza finally giving him a public serve on air was a moment of justice for the fans who have had to listen to his nonsense for far too long.
Mark Bosnich: Expert or ego?
If being the best in the business is driving everyone mental by pointing out the utterly obvious, repeating useless statistics and constantly offering terrible opinions and references to other sports then it is an incredibly low bar.
There is a good reason why Simon Hill is well respected amongst the football community whilst few people have any time for Speed. AFL is free to have him.
Is the A-League's broadcast deal now a hostage situation?
It’s been toxic for years. The way Gallop and Lowy let Fox Sports dictate how we run the league was a total farce. It didn’t matter if it was number of games in a season, kick off times, length of the season, international breaks or expansion locations, every decision FFA made was for the benefit of Fox Sports and not the game and more often than not the answer to any reform was “No.”
Personally I will be thankful to be rid of them. Their commentary has been stale for years, they show the absolute minimum amount of content and I’ll be happy enough to never have to hear Brenton Speed’s awful takes again.

“In the Melbourne context, it’s silly to talk about geographic identities.
All major sport takes place in the CBD and is well attended.”
Since about 2000 yes that’s the case but it’s hardly something Football should want to emulate.
The outer suburbs are hot beds of Football and keep on expanding without any sign of stopping and it was already a pain for people in the south east to travel for hours each way to attend a game in the CBD, let alone buy memberships.
What Melbourne City’s move could mean for expansion
Headgear/scrum caps do nothing for concussion, making it mandatory would be pointless. The best they’re good for is stopping your ears from being shredded in a scrum.
It’s time for all rugby players – young and old – to wear head protection
As a victory fan, we are nearly always dragged into round 1 derbies or major games and it’s become really annoying for the fan base. These matches have nearly always been poor games and regarded as a waste of a major game by the fan base.
Players aren’t yet match sharp, new players haven’t adapted and teams are too defensive as they don’t want to drop the first points on offer to a rival.
I think as well for a new team like Macarthur it’s a bit annoying as they won’t get time to be settled into life on and off the pitch as a new team before being thrust into the fire of a derby. It certainly feels like they are really trying to force an immediate rivalry on the fan base rather than letting it just happen naturally.
FFA nails the opening week of A-League fixtures
Derbies in round 1 are always dross, they lose points for that. The “start the season with a bang” theory needs to be thrown in the bin for future draws.

Wellington shouldn’t even be invited in the first place.
The FFA Cup is back, different and begging for a new name
And why do you think that is?
It’s hardly surprising to anyone that Football has developed it’s own culture and ideas that are highly influenced by overseas leagues and doesn’t blend neatly with Australia’s Pie and Chips Footy culture.
After years of outright hostility and telling Football that it doesn’t belong in mainstream sports culture, Anglo Australia can’t now complain that Football fans would rather turn their nose at copying other sports and would instead prefer to see the game move towards Footballs global model.

Having a 2 legged final would be daft considering every single round in the lead up including the qualifiers in the lead up has been single game knock-out football.
If the neutral venue doesn’t work out, then hosting rights should be drawn out of a hat like every other round.

Frankly i know why it even got this far. IMO national anthems don’t have any business being played before any games that aren’t international Test matches.
I remember going to Melbourne Storm games at AAMI Park where they used to play the national anthem before every home match and it was little more than a nuisance. The people around me often just ended up making sure they timed their final run to the bar for then.
Remove the anthem from Origin and the NRL and if the administrators need to sell it, they can say that they want to save the anthem for when players are actually playing for their country so to create a big occasion around the event. Who cares if it’s not played when Australia isn’t even playing?
Let the anthem play, let the players protest
It’s been thrown around in the media recently as a part of the larger issue that the AAFC have yet to clarify and lock in the league structure.
AAFC releases plans for second division by 2022
If the likes of Brisbane Roar or Perth Glory can’t figure out how to not get their act in order and not get relegated with no competition in their state whilst nsw and Vic would have potentially 4-6 teams each in their states then they have no business being in the top tier.
AAFC releases plans for second division by 2022
Because they are awful as a concept and in practice will fix barely any of the issues that this league was designed to address like having the teams and players play each other every week.
If we wanted a cost efficient solution to solve these problems then we could have just combined the NPLV and NPLNSW into a superleague and ignore the other states.

Any administrator in Aus Football that wants to be taken seriously right now needs to ban the word “conference” from their vocabulary.

Anyone bemoaning the lack of Aussies in the English Premier League is missing the point
Please, taking a single game in a tournament as evidence that we are still producing the same quality of players is cherry picking at it’s worst.
It is indisputable that we are not producing the same calibre of players that we once did and even the current national team coach admitted that this week in Simon Hill’s podcast and cited multiple well-know reasons why that was the case.
The rest of the Football world outside of the traditional powers may be improving and making it harder to break into the top tiers but there is no way you can argue that the players we have now are up there with the likes of the players we produced in the NSL. If our production line was consistent over the last 20-30 years we’d at least be seeing more Australians across the lesser leagues in Europe even if they weren’t making it to the big 5 leagues.

It’s mostly because A-League owners don’t want to set up scouting networks in Asia. It’s far easier for them to pick up a couple of reliable players from the Segunda or 2. Bundesliga.
