The 2nil defeat last night Australia suffered at the hands of New Zealand was a man’s friendly. Ultimately Australia will most likely finish bottom in their group in the men’s with Argentina and Spain going through.
Can Matildas, or anyone else, anyone dethrone the US at the Olympics?
It is true it would possibly be a logistics nightmare for Australia to host the event. The only other likely scenario would be to push the tournament back as far as possible keeping in mind that it doubles as the Asian section for the women’s World cup qualifiers. Hopefully the FA has a discussion with all the players and considers any action it may take to ensure their wishes are heard.
The AFC needs to reconsider the 2022 Women's Asian Cup
If Australia don’t finish in at least third, questions would need to be asked about Tony Gustavsson management style. However with a bit of luck the Matilda’s could be playing for a medal even if it were only a bronze. Although I do think the Matilda’s will qualify for the quarter finals in third and exit there.
