Good read. I am not convinced Chris Mayne is someone the Pies should be going after. Would be good to see Matthew Scharenberg have some luck next season.

The offseason: Collingwood

Good read!

"Make Richmond great again"

Sergi Guardiola on loan confirmed today. Probably known for his brief stint at Barcelona which lasted less than 2 hours.

Anxiousness in Adelaide: Reds need signings to back up from last season

Ross Barkley should be starting in that team.

England continue to struggle

If option 1 takes place and Richmond make the finals, but are knocked out without winning a game again. Will that classify as a succesful season?

Richmond board under siege - and rightly so

Difficult situation with Hartlett. Speaking to him at a function a month ago it is obvious how much he loves the club but his performances have been very patchy. I think this is more a tactic from Port to put a rocket up him and hope he responds. I suspect he will stay.

I certainly don’t view bringing in Polec as a poor move. Yes Port gave up a first round pick but he isnt 35 years old. He had a brilliant 2014, and after a serious injury I thought he started getting back to some better form the last 4 or 5 games of the year and is still only 23.

It may be Port Adelaide bias but I dont buy into no fresh talent coming through. The youngsters have been the clear highlight of 2016, it is the senior players who underperformed.

And for those that watched Port closely in 2015, Paddy Ryder had a very good year in difficult cirucmstances that I think conveniently get overlooked. He certainly won’t be the savour, but Port are a much better side with him than without.

AFL trade rumours: Port give Hamish Hartlett a push

Where do we start with Port! Certainly frustrating if you support them.

I agree talent isn’t the issue. But I think to be seriously challenging for finals like many clubs they need to have that talent available. I am certainly not saying Ryder and Monfries are the saviours but they will assist with what is currently on offer. For me the big loss is Jack Hombsch. Even a player like Alipate Carlile is an interesting one. It is probably debatable if he is in the best 18, but you take Trengove out of defence to play ruck, take out Hombsch and Jonas also injured currently then all of a sudden Carlile is probably a handy option to have right now. The defence and midfield definately lack polish with Hartlett missing, Polec has struggled coming back from inury and Matt White has not played a game since round 1. Port just have not dealt with injuries well and the club needs to also review this in-depth. Especially the mangement of players like Jay Schulz and Carlile.

When Hinkley took over many thought it was the worst list in the league and would take 5 plus years to even contemplate finals. 3 years later Port Adelaide were underachieving by not playing in a Grand Final. Hinkley will be given next year and if Port miss the finals again then it will be time to go. There will be a couple of changes to the assistant coaches and time will tell if that helps. Maybe Hinkley is more a motivator and needs a more tactical assistant like he had with Walsh and Richardson before they left. Bassett has done a great job and I can see him getting more responsibility.

I have been criticial of team selection and some tactics this season. I dont agree Port are using the same game plan.
I attended the after match function Saturday night and the club is obviously angry at the curent position. But from what the CEO has said Hinkley will not be moved on.

As angry as I am with the current predicament I think Hinkley deserves next year. But there needs to be change to the playing list, fitness staff, coaches and development and a massive focus on skills work in the pre-season. No more Darren Burgess lets make olympic runners training.

If Port Adelaide is serious, Ken must be the first to go

Cheers Freddie much appreciated.

EPL: Boro are back! Are they here to stay?

The performances of Stones last year were nothing short of disgraceful. Certainly a talent but his heart was not in it last year. If Everton can get Jagielka fit and sounds like Williams and Kone will be signed within the next couple of days then I think Everton will have covered the loss of Stones.

John Stones signs with Manchester City in the most unusual circumstances

Don’t get me wrong, Alex Rance is a very good player. But the praise is getting completely over the top, praise for simplistic things he does. A few weeks ago he simply spoiled the ball from a poor kick into the forward line you would expect any defender to deal with. It led to a 10 minute love in from the commentary team.

Rance taking the competition by storm

Voss has also been the scapegoat at Port Adelaide at times. But I feel he has done a pretty good job in difficult circumstances with the midfield.

How the Brisbane Lions got it so wrong with Justin Leppitsch

Not confident in Port tonight. But when you support Port and see what has happened the last 2 years it is difficult to know what Port will turn up!

A lot of change in that Port side that beat Hawthorn at the end of last year not playing ( Ryder, Monfries, White, Sam Gray, Ah Chee, Jonas, Butcher, Hombsch) While a couple of those are out of form currently it was the best game for the club that both Ah Chee and Gray have played.

I would have rewarded Butcher with a game tonight at the expense of Schulz.

Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn: Thursday Night Forecast

I will probably get shot down in flames, but I reckon some of the praise for Rance is over the top. Don’t get me wrong he is a very good player who every team would have but the love affair with Rance from channel 7 in particular is getting over the top. At one stage last week he made a standard spoil you would expect any competent defender to make and it led to a 20 minute praising session and then Bruce McAvaney to pose the question ” Is Rance the best defender in the last 20 years?”

As for Prestia if the Suns can finish the season off well I can see him staying put.

Why Richmond must lure Dion Prestia to Tigertown

Very good!

FA announce Gordon Bombay as next England manager

The Robbie Gray non goal might be what you are thinking of in the first quarter. Bounced on the line and somehow didn’t go through.

Port's Power-down confirms it, the top eight is locked in

Sterling could not possibly start next game. If England win the tournament then a lot of us will be eating humble pie.

Super subs can’t paper over England cracks, Roy doesn’t have a clue

Stones had a poor year last year after the move to Chelsea fell through. Everton had plenty of plaudits for standing firm at the time but if Stones is going to perform poorly again then it might be best to maximise the price and move him on.

Koeman's the man to bring back Everton's glory days

A great story. Hope he goes well.

Trengove finally returns to AFL

Does Adelaide Oval lose points for charging $9.20 for a beer?
But as someone who sat at AAMI stadium in the middle of nowhere surrounded by tarps and no one at the game the move to Adelaide Oval has been one of the best things to happen to the state. As others have said, it has just created a buzz in the city.

I will give Adelaide Oval the nod. Maybe with a bit of bias as my last couple of trips to the MCG has not been for blockbuster games so the atmosphere has been pretty dead.

Roar and Against: The Adelaide Oval is Australia's best sporting venue

I agree with this. I certainly think Pav wanted to retire and was talked into playing again. His performances have still been reasonably solid. I still think that Pav and Freo were confident that Cam McCarthy from GWS would arrive which would have taken some of the pressure off. Instead Pav is still one of the main targets in that forward line.

Is Pavlich's career headed for the Dock?

Agree 100% Dez.

Gary Ablett was the wrong man for the Gold Coast Suns

The pipe dream is obviously Mourinho!
David Moyes would be an absolute disgraceful option and this would not be met with any approval from the Everton fans.

I think Everton fans would be happy enough with De Boer or Koeman.
Moshiri has promised significant investment so with the offer of plenty of transfer funds this might help appeal to potential targets.

Who will take over from Martinez at Goodison Park?

Cheers. Much appreciated.

Southampton: An underrated success story

Port lost by 4 points to Carlton to last year. 2 points yesterday.
Glad to see Port are improving and on the right track :p

Carlton Blues vs Port Adelaide Power highlights: Blues steal fourth consecutive win

Glad to hear it is only 6-8 weeks. I think we all feared the worst when it happened.

Carlton's Casboult to miss 6-8 weeks
