If I was Arthur I would consider playing Norman as fullback, with great reluctance. That is, of course, if there weren’t any other wingers I didn’t want to play out of position like he has been.

That’s why I’ve said he will (and knows he will) take a pay cut wherever he goes and that Parra should match it. Sandow is good enough to make it into the current line-ups of the following clubs, without a doubt:
Titans
Storm
Sharks
Raiders
Tigers
Knights
Panthers, maybe.

Apart from what you’ve said being factually unsupported and completely unfounded, alcohol depletes cognitive function far more rapidly and seriously than what a personal amount of cocaine would. I’m not supporting Hunt’s decisions, but this is a great example of the public’s irrational reaction to this situation.

JMW – Bowling against arguably the most adept Test team against spin is always going to be a tough task; Rahane batted superbly on the final day.
Don Freo – I’d almost add Ravi Ashwin to that list if SOK bowled.

That’s where Watson should be now (if in the team at all). His batting has been in decline, but selectors persist with batting him up the order. I don’t have a problem with his bowling; it’s far better than his batting.

Shane Watson doesn’t average under 30 with the ball in Tests, so how is that the bar?
The problem with the selection policy is trying to pick ‘proven’ players in a spot occupied by a lackluster one. If Shane Watson’s ‘sustained’ batting records (culminating in his average of 36 – currently batting at 3, no less) is the precedent, the following domestic players would presumably equal – if not improve on – his batting efforts:
James Faulkner:
AVG – 31.91;
HS – 94;
50s – 12
Glenn Maxwell:
AVG – 40.39
HS – 155*
50s – 12
100s – 4
James Hopes (albeit a couple of years too old, but with a better first class bowling average than Watto):
AVG – 32.18
HS – 146
50s – 31
100s – 5
There are more players, but these are the ones that come to mind.

I don’t entirely agree with him being a better bat either, but the line: “With the bat, Watson can be allowed, and should be encouraged, to play with freedom and positive intent at number six, if not downright aggression.” is just confusing. When would he ever have not been given a directive to ‘play with freedom’? He’s had plenty of chances to show aggression – most recently yesterday on a road that he made look like my 5th-grade turf training net that fizzes past your head off a drive-able length – and always fails to do so.
The biggest gripe I have with Watson being in the team is that, unlike once-contentious positions such as first-drop post-Ricky Ponting, people have always been knocking on the door for the all-rounder spot. The Watson experiment needs to end. He’s cooked.

If marketing space decreased (and subsequently the money a team has), these kids wouldn’t see their favourite player because, more often than not, he/she’d be playing for a club/team that can afford them through sponsorship. As you indicated: ‘you understand the need for it in professional sport’, so surely you also understand that it won’t go away. Using overseas codes as a benchmark is chalk and cheese to me – if Australian franchises were as cashed up, they would also be able to get rid of jersey sponsorship.

I agree – I think Brookie averaged a nudge over 50% attendance across this season. Low suburban attendances are a direct result of the comp’s saturation in Sydney.

The reason these ‘new age of people’ ride in groups is to gain the experiences you’ve lambasted them for not having because they’re new to cycling. This generalisation you’ve made is near-comical: “Now they ignore waivers and sue everyone else who happens to be sharing the road with them. Picture Rugby League being the ‘state’ in the situation, and every other code in AUS being ‘other nations’. Areas for expansion that are far higher priority would be Perth and the Central Coast. Brisbane won’t have a second team for a long time – a shame because, as a former Toowoomban, I’d love to see a Downs or Ipswich team showcasing some more Lockyer Valley talent.
