Loves all live sport. Played rugby codes as a youth, cricket and athletics. Threw away the golf clubs and bought two bikes. Now a gentle road and mountain bike rider and a football fanatic with age. It's so big, we've just got to be part of it. Brisbane Roar member, NQ Cowboys fan.

On ANZAC Day, 25 April we commemorate the landing of the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. The first commemoration…
I quite liked Kayo, straight up the Gateway, park within a few metres of entrance. Like Suncorp too, express bus to under the stand. The critics were loud about Redcliffe, can’t see Roar being too keen on a return. The challenging option, win and win more, attract 15-20 K every game, Suncorp. Kayo is hopeless with a crowd above 7-8K, just does not have the facilities.

Yes, former navigator cum weapon system operator Buddy. E-7?

understand Buddy, thanks. My career was navigator, now called weapon system operator, well into electronic warfare.

Brisbane away had their flag stolen by Cove in early round, not smart.
Irankunda's brilliance, Sydney suffocate Mariners, 'blackout' prevented as NEP save the day
Yes, dumb idea, I agree. Orange and some black works for me. Hate the maroon thing too, so rugby & league. The change they need is on the park, turn those close games and draws to wins.
Irankunda's brilliance, Sydney suffocate Mariners, 'blackout' prevented as NEP save the day
tend to agree. He’s given away a lot of goals with his passes, and his defence is sometimes brilliant, sometimes terrible.

at Ballymore? They’d be seen, and heard with every goal. None there. Plenty of SFC away fans when they play up here, best away fans at present.

I think the SkyNZ commentary team define bias. Their call on Sunday morning was a sad indictment on our league.

I hear you Waz. It’s difficult to support this league from afar. We get two games a month max, to attend while Sydney and Melb frequently have a choice of two or three games every weekend. Add that to the ongoing rabble at APL and (this always draws crabs) a draw that doesn’t favor fans north of the Hunter, and it begs the question, is it worth it? Maybe there’s more to enjoy in the NPL and local community club, and just let the other guys go play amongst themselves.
The only saving grace is the $$$ that the owners of Roar have invested over the years. Too much for them to walk away, so I have faith that they and the other owners at APL will recognise their errors and kick the A League into shape. Or maybe I’m just a disappointed fan whose side keeps losing. Bit of both I think.

Won’t be disappointed to see Nikola leave, he’s not a striker, but I have enjoyed his pace and effort. Majok’s a crowd favourite and he’s been given ample opportunity but he hasn’t cracked it. I’d expect Roar to fight to keep their local juniors, Waddo, Brownlie, MacNicol, Hore in particular. They’ve put an offer to Aldred, he’s still to respond, looking around according to a press report.

Ben is listed on Wynum Wolves website as a Wolves junior and he lists Wolves as his grass roots club. Brisbane’s home but like many others, he’s moved to the Goldie at some stage. Brisbane people have been doing that for over 70 years in my experience. OMG, my family did it when I was a nipper, many friends have done it several times. Not that it really matters.
Irankunda's brilliance, Sydney suffocate Mariners, 'blackout' prevented as NEP save the day
yes, but their advantage is that their home games are also virtually home games when they SFC and WSW, and not too far away for Mariners and evens Jets fans to boost numbers. I didn’t see a single away fan when Roar played Mac at Ballymore recently.

Qld has the highest interstate migration rate in Aust by a very long shot, makes the talk of birth place a bit irrelevant up here (so too this idea of a template Queenslander). A high percentage of those South Aussies too, are born overseas. I don’t know JCP was when his family moved but he was a youngster at Newmarket, very much a family club so he was likely very young.
If it wasn't for Irankunda, every A-League headline would be negative right now
actually, it was more the other way around. JCP was released from his Poland club and came home without telling Roar and called SFC, who said yeah, deal. He’s a Newmarket FC lad, my very local FC in Brisbane. Roar was very good for him through his youth years, hopefully he’ll come home.
But you are right Waz, Roar has to address player retention. They’re trying but it’s time for the APL to share a bit of their southern love north, in scheduling and the like. So many teams have former Roar juniors in key roles. If they’re so good at developing and retaining juniors, why do they also have to recruit and retain ours?
If it wasn't for Irankunda, every A-League headline would be negative right now
yes, but also clubs would sign players on longer terms. JJ was adamant he was going to open all this up, the football economy, but he has been blocked by the APL. I think he should just do it.

jamming’s done automatically these days, the human can’t keep apace with modern technology, the case even when I was active, some years now.

You’re suggesting that the game in NQ and Gold Coast would not grow. I’d say they had a better chance of growing crowds than the new teams, now averaging less than them.

There’s been a number of A League players cotracted before their current contract ends Grem. Connor Chapman is the most recent example at Roar, who have had several over the years. Roar has never stood in the way of any player asking to move, it’s long been their policy. Didn’t Arnie at Sydney target a few contracted Mariners players?

so why recruit JCP?

you can train to Cbus
If it wasn't for Irankunda, every A-League headline would be negative right now
why is it 1 in 12? You’re actually backing up what Waz is saying by quoting 1 in 12. He’s saying the game is unbalanced, the focus is too much on Syd/Mel, and you’re saying of course it is because we’re focused on these 8 teams, in Syd/Mel. It’s an illogical response you’re giving. Any long term follower of rugby league knows this argument of bias well, over many decades. The NRL never took off nationally until they gave up their Sydney focus and took a more national outlook, albeit begrudgingly at first.

They won’t have any choice on a split if the number of concerts, as proposed, goes ahead. We have to convince the politicians of the need for a second rectangular stadium in Brisbane, with Broncos, Dolphins, Reds, Roar and Concerts all competing for slots. Smaller stadium desperately needed. CBus and Townsville should be considered and even the redeveloped Sunshine Coast Stadium, but it all flies in the face of Brisbane Roar. They really should stand firm as much as they can, at Suncorp.

Mileusenic is no striker. A hard worker with some pace, but not a striker.

Did I see Bobby Firmino was headed to Perth?

keep fans happy at Kayo? The complaints about being there last time, the ‘we’re coming home’ theme, not Brisbane, there’s nothing to suggest Roar or fans want to move back to Kayo. It will only happen if it’s absolutely essential, but even then I think only if Ballymore too, is not available. Roar is within a few breaths of winning lots of matches, could be next season.
