Rugby League is THE Great Game. I enjoy reading and writing about RL and my team. I’m passionate, opinionated, but always open to persuasion.

Dragons should do a swap with Hunt for Reynolds. 😂

Well I’m just slightly freaked out. Have I gone back to the future ore has the future gone backwards?
The Father, son and the Holy Red V Spirit for good measure? I can’t help it… I keep wanting to make the sign of the cross. No blasphemy intended.

‘Twas. A but of a laugh. I seem to have an incomprehensible weird sense of humour. I get it 😛 but no one else seems to.

'I’m p--sed off that people aren’t doing their jobs properly': Ricky Stuart gives refs both barrels in epic press conference spray

I’ve read quite a few comments and posts about female match officials. Some absolutely embarrassing and cringe worthy and some just the normal whinging about referees getting it wrong.
Can’t change the nasty opinions of the few. Can delete, remove, block and ban as you would do for any nasty, discriminatory, abusive comments and posts.
Ousted never to return. Get with the program moderators and administrators. The ball is in your half.

Round 26 Talking Points: JWH, Ricky and a few others a bit 'tired and emotional' as pressure of finals race hits boiling point

Nothing new here. Ricky the terror terrorising. He must be a sinner, a bad man, a stewpid head, a mullet mug, a mouse that roars, a man on a mission to perdition, give him heaps peeps because he doesn’t know what he is on about and he is so embarrassing, ridiculous and can’t coach an under 6 tag team. He needs to go, get sacked, told to pack his bags and head over the pond or anywhere except Canberra.
I like him. The nrl needs a few odd and interesting characters even if they don’t know it. The nrl is more concerned with V’landys Vegas big smoke gambling gambit show than the sad and frustrating degradation of a game by way of an insane Rules and Laws PDF document, ever under review and ever changing by the season, the month, the round, the day, the hour, the minute in order to Trumpise it… to make Rugby League great again.
Y’all have given your ‘down with Ricky – he doesn’t know what he talking about Stewart. I thought I’d give it a different take. Go Ricky! He’s the man of the moment for not caring what anyone here thinks about his actions. Woohoo you tell ‘em brother! I’m not embarrassed for you. I say all power to you for demanding to be heard regarding the LITTLE BOOK OF HORRORS, re-designed, and I use that word very loosely, by a Rugby bloke and a Horse racing bloke. so that officials cannot in all honesty, consistently and fairly utilise to adjudicate games.
Yep I like him. Lots of people like him and admire him and appreciate him. He’s still in the job. No mid-season sacking for Ricky.

That’s da truth.

Latrell's career may have already peaked unless he can eradicate momentary lapses of discipline

Is Mr Mitchell the great pretender? So much potential to perhaps be one of the greats but alas he does not appreciate being tackled and is not too keen to do the tackling either. A centre needs to do both of those jobs so it’s not really suited to his style and preference.
He can be a smooth operator when he puts his mind and behind to the grind. Those naturally silky skills have not been evident enough to keep the team in the running for the big dance. He has been out injured or suspended and I did hope he would be inspirational on his return but another one round ban (should have been at least two in my calculations but no one got hurt so that’s ok isn’t it? Eye roll)
He’s got the wow factor if only he would wow the spectators and fans consistently on the paddock whilst making an effort to keep the grub out of his game.
He is certainly a character of the game and he could certainly be a champion of the game if that’s what he decides he wants.

Latrell's career may have already peaked unless he can eradicate momentary lapses of discipline

The Rabbitohs beat the strung together team hanging on to second from the bottom of the ladder… just. Bit of a shocker really. Cairns got a very messy game. Bunker had a shocker. Let’s see if Souths can find their form and stay in contention.

ANALYSIS: Souths bludge their way to Dragons win - but on this showing, put the line through them

I think I have paragraphs. I start a new line for a new paragraph.
Carry on as is? Most certainly not as I stated in my comment –
“Change the rules and laws to make it safer? They have tried, but I don’t think it has made enough of difference to the number of concussions suffered by players.
It is extremely difficult for adjudicators to police the tackling rules consistently. One tackle is outlawed and a new tackling technique is born and that technique is banned and a new technique is born rinse and repeat.”
We have a new tackling technique suddenly being called out by some coaches and players who are all cranky and peeved about it… they’ve even given it a name but can’t for the life of me remember what it is. Will teams take up this technique on mass? When will it be banned?
Also-
“I don’t envy these owners of the game having to work their collective way through the minefield of rules and laws. Must it come? Yes, and how soon? Yesterday.”
How it’s all going to pan out in the future is anyone’s guess.

King Wally's CTE diagnosis shows why league must make major rule changes to protect players from themselves

I’m pleased you read the first paragraph at least.

King Wally's CTE diagnosis shows why league must make major rule changes to protect players from themselves

The questions must be answered.
Some random thoughts from a brain damaged person:-
The cigarette smokers of this world make a choice and risk cancer for themselves and those around them. The alcohol drinkers make a choice and risk liver and multi organ failure. Sugar consumers make a choice and risk diabetes and organ failure. Elicit drug takers make a choice and risk brain damage, shorter life expectancy and multiple organ failure. Carpenters and cabinet makers make a choice and risk a number of dire health outcomes. Circus performers make a choice. Teachers make a choice and risk abuse, assault, ptsd or getting shot or knifed to death along with their students. Soldiers make a choice and accept the risks. Motorbike riders make a choice, sky divers make a choice, policemen make a choice, racing car drivers make a choice and on and on I could go.
Rugby League players also make a choice and now know of the long term risks to their health and well being and if they don’t – they require immediate education on the matter.
Does knowing and still participating make it all ok?
Is it ok for parents to make a choice / decision for / with their children to play Rugby League from the tender age of 6 years? Who suffers? Who gets the blame? Who gets to sue who for compensation?
What can Rugby League do to make the players safer? Change the rules and laws to make it safer? They have tried, but I don’t think it has made enough of difference to the number of concussions suffered by players.
It is extremely difficult for adjudicators to police the tackling rules consistently. One tackle is outlawed and a new tackling technique is born and that technique is banned and a new technique is born rinse and repeat.
The nature of the game as is or as was makes it difficult. Does the very nature of the game have to be changed? How can it be changed to ensure that MOST players are MOSTLY safe from suffering more than a few head injuries in their careers.
We could have a style of game with very limited contact and then it would be almost, if not completely unrecognisable from the great game of yore.
‘Tag your in’
I don’t envy these owners of the game having to work their collective way through the minefield of rules and laws. Must it come? Yes, and how soon? Yesterday.

Their last GF appearance was heartbreaking. They were robbed by a thieving referee. It’s always the ref’s fault. They are a weird mob it’s true. That’s why I like ‘em.

I’m going Raiders from here on til the end of their season. I have mad Raiders family in the capital so let’s go greenies! It could happen.

The Roar’s NRL expert tips and predictions Round 24: Pressure mounts as time runs out to make the finals cut

The judiciary is making a few extra bucks for the end of year party perhaps? More fines handed out than I can ever remember.
Ref’s are great. The bunker is great. The nrl is great. The judiciary is great. The ever-changing game is great. The NSWRL is great. Fox and Nine are great. All gurus are great. All rookies are great unless they have a differing opinion on all of the above. Then they become whingers. But yeah – it’s all great.
I love the game even if I don’t like V’landys’ ‘fixing’ up the game to be more commercially exciting and interesting and…even greater in many minds, but not mine. I’m of a breed that loves the great game but wishes the NRL upper management would stop tinkering and tampering with it.
Is it so wrong to desire a ‘Rules and Laws of Rugby League’ tome to be more streamlined, and way less open to anyone’s interpretation, including Gurus, rookies, fans, referees, bunkers, review committees, coaches, commentators, sports writers, game callers and the like?
Is it so wrong to demand a higher level of consistency from the NRL Officialdom? They need to be called out sometimes.
By all means lambast the whingers and by that I mean get on your soapbox and whinge away. The ROAR is great. It’s a platform for those of us who read, write articles, write comments and participate in open discussions, who LOVE the GREAT game.
I won’t apologise for getting on my own soap box or perhaps it’s a high horse, to state my case. It’s just not how Roarers roll.

Lucky Luai yet another example of NRL’s wobbly wheels of justice veering off track in search for consistency

Just because you express a different opinion to mine doesn’t mean I hate you or disregard your opinion as worthless.
I’ve got no time for hate. Your ‘breed’ is not my concern – one human to another.

Yep it’s madness

Easily googled and downloaded. But not my point. Experts who know the game, write about the game in newspapers and on line and comment on the game – on Fox/Kayo/ Nine, vodcasts, podcasts, radio stations, YouTube etc are well versed in these continually updated rules and laws of the NRL. They discuss and debate and speak against and for these adjudication decisions endlessly, with intelligence for the most part and with sincere passion for their interpretations. We expect game officials to rule on all of these rules and laws within every game. The person with a whistle and ear buds to the bunker official, and a massive tome rolling around in said officials heads and running up and down and across and backwards, sweat pouring, brain and eyes trying to make sense of it all and make the correct decisions…Poor officials who cannot escape the inconsistencies of their rulings. Spec savers won’t help them and I don’t know what will.
I can’t rest my case. But I’ll cease and desist… for now

‘I thought’… ‘I think’… that says it all for me. I am an avid reader of the rules and laws because I want to understand what is actually happening on the park – from the players, the coaches, the match officials, the post match review committee and the judiciary. It’s not easy keeping track and trying to understand the various rules and interpretations. I researched the latest judiciary ‘programme’ and it’s very prescriptive but as with the match officialdom the inconsistencies are overwhelming to this fool.
Rookies and experts in general seem happy and excited about the NRL brand. Good onyaz… I’m happy for you all. I will whinge when the urge takes me. My gapes are tasting decidedly sour.

Fans should get a refund: Refereeing de-Klein shows how far NRL's gone backwards since golden age of officials

Most certainly not. It’s not sad for the nrl. It’s just sad for this RL fool.

Fans should get a refund: Refereeing de-Klein shows how far NRL's gone backwards since golden age of officials

Thank you Curtis. I’m not the only one who has grave concerns with regards to our nrl officialdom. I couldn’t watch the men’s game last night. I turned it off in disgust. I gave in and had another look and within two minutes I shut it down again in disgust with the inconsistencies and very strange decisions from match officials. It’s depressing for a RL fanatic.
The V’landys – Abdo leadership has changed the Australian version of rugby league forever, tampering with the rules and laws of our game with far too much gay abandon, without considering the consequences of an over- stuffed rule book that must be impossible to adjudicate on in fairness and without confirmation bias or any kind of bias. I wish we would get back to basic, stripped back, closed ended rules with less likelihood of a myriad of variations and interpretations. Even the experts can’t agree on adjudication decisions.
Of course dangerous tackles must be penalised and officials must get tough on the head and neck attacks. But then we have all the other tackles that have become unlawful. If an injury is suffered by the attacking player in the tackle does it then mean the tackler must be sin binned, a penalty given to the attacking side, the tackler placed on report and suspended by the judiciary? I’m not sure which tackles are considered lawful anymore. It’s very frustrating.
There’s so much more to the problems being faced by clubs, coaches, match officials and spectators and supporters… and what about that ex player, ex coach, ex referee judiciary panel? I’m sure they know their stuff but if ever a club decides to fight a charge they invariably lose. Best not to fight a charge and make the judiciary go to work? Yep
Thanks for another take on the ‘stop whinging it all evens up in the end, trust us we know what we are doing? Nope no way. I don’t think so.
Finito
